@weridgaeagirl It just servers to enforce the notion of the hero being a lonely creature, even when surrounded by friends. She doesn't truly love Ken, she just fills the void with something, so she can have an anchor in this world. That notion is all over the series, and especially in Angel. A hero is only complete when he is dead.
