Value added tax? The version of this I've looked at is the "Fair Tax" things that's got a foot in the House door. I could be wrong, but it looks like protectionism. Unless the whole world adopted the same model...

It's interesting how these news shows want Peter on their shows because it's hard to ignore his track record, yet when he offers his very consistent opinion on the subject it's always written off as "too hard", or "will bring on catastrophy". He knows we're just digging a deeper pit all the time...

If we go to a "value" tax system, like what peter schiff suggests, how do we overcome the obstacle of people with savings or investments that were already taxed as income before the income tax was abolished?

Once the value tax comes into effect, those savings will have been taxed twice once you spend it.

Secondly, why wouldn't they want to change it? If the new tax system is better than the old one, in economic terms, the agent would prefer the one that has greater utility. You wouldn't punish the future because of the past.

Actually I did :) Point well taken. Most people that oppose Obama's policies also opposed Bushs', essentially because they're the same. It's not a left vs. right paradigm, or Repub vs. Dem. It's simply the Constitution (small gov't) vs. Big Gov't.

e.g., Patriot Act (written by Biden in '96); bailouts; FISA bill (supported by Obama); Bush & Obama are both pro-Israel, pro-WTO, pro-UN, pro-NATO, pro-16th amendment, pro-18th amendment, have a interventionist foreign policy, and pro-Fed Reserve.

Good just checking - sometimes ya get neo cons trying to manipulate the frame of the discussion. A lot of people don't consider the anti-authoritarian perspective because of the left right thing. Like we have to choose between Orwell and Huxley.

You'd think I'm paying attention, but somehow during this whole election process (I didn't vote) I missed the fact that Biden wrote the Patriot Act. That would have cinched things up a lot sooner if I'd realized.
