In the original comic book, they were drawn in black and white. When they went to color, co-creator Kevin Eastman's favorite color was red. As the turtles gained popularity, they went with the colors we see today. Raphael kept the red because he was Eastman's favorite turtle.

I never truly got why the folks in charge of the box art decided to draw all four turtles in Raphael's colors wasn't Leonardo supposed to be the leader? or maybe it was because Raph was the "badass" of the group so it would look cool making the other three look as pissed off as him

@Robben911back At maybe 10 years old that was the farthest I could ever get- where you're inside the technodrome. It was the very last room with all of the purple flying guys. I'm 14 now, maybe I should try again. Still can't believe I had the patience to do all of that, even the Dam level didn't give me much trouble after a bit.

yes it was. But it is beatable, which takes some major strategy. I could always make it to the technodrome, when I was a kid, but the final part where you try to get to Shredder always was the hard part.

I finally did beat the game when I turned 27, which was 3 years ago.
