  • Drop your sturrips a few holes. Put your hand down. Put your heels down, pull your toes in. Sit up straight. bad example for everyone. :/

  • What I find anoying about these video's is she doesn't show you how to do these moves. She just show you she can do it. Now how to do it. Like what signal does she give the horse and how does she teach the horse that signal???

This video is more about showing off.

  • your horse needss to drive with its butt you need to sit your butt down your NOT riding english so drop ur sturrips down the look like crap and use your legs NOT your hand so learn befor you post any videos have a great day!!!!! not oh i like your horse just NOT the way it moves

  • your horse needss to drive with its butt you need to sit your butt down your NOT riding english so drop ur sturrips down the look like crap and use your legs NOT your hand so learn befor you post any videos have a great day!!!!! not

  • I would like to point out to all of you negative people who are trashing this poor woman and criticizing her mare that first of all she is not nor is she portraying herself as a trainer, in the bio it clearly states that she is a makeup artist. Secondly this video is over two years old you do not know if creating impulsion at the lope is something that is being worked on by the rider and her instructor. And Finally this is just a silly youtube video this is not the way to learn how to ride.

  • I get that you're trying to show a western pleasure horse and all, but that horse seriously needs more impulsion from his hind end, and to elevate his front end! He looks stupid.

  • 1. The sturrips are too short. 2. The horse looks weak in the knees and lame. 3. The horse also looks confuesed and depressed. 4. The horses steps seem really short, like it's in pain.....

I highly doubt she is a "seasoned horseback rider" I think she's someone who auditioned for this....

  • that horse dinnt look happy AT ALL!!

  • 1. That is a western pleasure lope. 2. It is called HOW TO, what do you do if you dont know how to slow down a horse?

  • the lope is waaaay to slow... the cowboy wouldnt of gotten anywhere with that... :P

  • how did this video show me how to slow down a horse, it didnt it just showed me i could, i though i couldnt i just thought horses ran forever

  • wow the complainers on here. Not ever western show horse moves the safe. This horse moved pretty well. I do agree a little more lift in the front end so she is not so shuffle legged, but be happy her nose was not down to the dirt. What the trainer is doing is not wrong advice either. Mixing up movements can help a horse a lot then just loping around and hoping your horse will slow down. And for the people that ask "What kind of western is this." this is show style horse, not cowboy crap.

  • how does this slow down a fast paced high strubg horse??

  • this is like the third vid where people have said taht the horse looks lame...they should get him checked out or something :/...and this horse seems pretty well behaved, why such a strong bit???

  • Sit up straight you sack of potatoes! 0.0 If you lean any further back you're going to fall off.

  • "Break down, break down break down." WTF? I ride english and that IS a western lope and jog, but they could have been sped up like a little faster. I know this because I was trying to be taught english with a western trainer. Not a good mix... =/

  • Comment removed

  • The jog was just barley that. The Lope was VERY odd. Was the horse lame? and that's not all I noticed...

  • What kind of western is this? Retard Western?

  • @TheLiv56 for sure haha

  • @TheLiv56 Lol, I agree!

  • wow, just wow... no collection, no drive from the hind end, YES VERY strung out, no lift of the rib cage, why are these people offering advice? Ridiculous! I agree she's not a strong rider at all. I'm just amazed...

  • Thats nice that you can do it... but if you would break down the steps on how we cue the horse would be most helpful.

  • This video should be titled "How to teach your horse to be strung out behind"

    Another ExpertVillage FAIL

  • Which video's would you recommend?

  • a horse is what you make it. . .bt g this woman doesnt sit a good saddle at all plz young ppl dont take notice of this idiot

  • let's not forget our vocal commands, shall we?

  • here is that fat bitch again and her spurs .... she has to be the worse looser rider I have ever seen ... fuck fuck bitch and her fucking spurs

  • Wow, you are just too funny.

  • Comment removed

  • OMG PPL Western Pleasure is soppose to be slow ... The Horse level and its not too low maybe ride a real western pleasure horse instead of you nags ... this horse is like a 10 thousand dollars how about grow up

  • so that's why my horse cost 5 times that much?

  • and it's not even about how much the horse costs. If the owner is really well known then they can sell a crappy horse for a lot.

They get away with drugging the horse or people assume that just because the horse comes with a reputable name it's going to be a good one.

It just goes to show how political the QH industry has become.

  • boah die kann net reiten ..und des is kein Galopp!!

  • i hate WP, let the poor horse raise his poor head

  • what is wp? and actually having his head down more comfortable it is more natural for them =]

  • never mind i got it (western pleasure) and there is nothing wrong with it. sorry you have been told wrong by who ever told you it was bad =]

  • overall... these videos are appalling... incredibly uninformative and, while the little mare looks sweet and kind, she shows poor example of WP gaits.

  • okay some people cant relate because they dont ride and i actually show western pleasure and this is a good video but you can do much more like spin them back them and lope them in circles. and this isnt a video that tells you how to ride western but i go to major shows and this is what a bunch of the good people do

  • ok thats a very nice horse and you guys would know that if you knew how to ride a horse properly.she can ride very well and that horse looks perfect to be a pleasure horse, maybe not a english horse but a great western horse. :) she doesnt use complicated terms there very easy terms just break you horse down from a lope to a jog to a walk to a halt it doesnt get any easier than that. duhhh

  • It over all a stupid video who no one can learn diddly squat off.!

  • We just watch you ride a horse you don't say how you do it.

  • i agree...don't really know how to do it still..just watching you say what you are doing

  • agreed.

    Okay, we get it.

You can go from a lope to the jog to the walk to a halt.

    Big whoop!

  • a western lope looks weird in this video.. almost like the horse is lame... :/ ?

  • this is actually a pleasure lope , a gait used for showing. This horse is definitely a pleasure horse. they look funny but its trained to do this, the closer to the ground their nose is the better, also the smoother and slower u go also the better this is a very nice pleasure horse here.. cant say much for the rider..

  • I train and show world class western pleasure horses for a living. This is NOT desireable in ANY discipline that I know of...Bad example here of....well everything.

  • this horse is not a good pleasure horse. The jog and walk is okay, not the best, but the lope she has isn't what you want.

And you don't want to horse's nose to the ground. You just want it even with its withers; level.

And if you go TOO slow, you won't have enough impulsion and your horse could look crippled.

  • i think he might be.. most horses don't look like that while loping.

  • It seems tht the horse is tripping in the sand.. and lady just cuz u use all these complicated terms tht no one has ever herd of does not make you an expert...

  • I wonder why Kelli LaBar never eacts to the comments and why she did those videos, don^t you?

  • If you people really think she just started riding, you are pathetic. No rider who started a few days ago can ride that horse. People underestimate these well trained pleasure horses. Unless you know the ques and the way it was trained, you won't be able to ride it. I'm sorry all you people who are so full of yourselves, but you couldn't.

  • thats not really true how u said if u didnt know how its trained u cant ride it. ive gotten on horses and were able to ride them and even sometimes better than the original owner. it all depends on how well experienced u are in riding a horse or the breed.

  • You're not understanding my point.

You can't ride a horse unless you know it, meaning, that woman knows what she's doing. And I would say something else about your response, but I'm sure it would piss you off, so I'll leave it at that.

  • um yes i do believe i am understanding your point. youre saying a lope can be a four beat gait which no a TRUE and proper lope is not a 4 beat gait its a 3beat gait. im not boasting about my knowledge im getting the facts strait so people dont have the wrong info.

  • Obviously you're not. I admit I was calling the four beat gait a lope, but my whole point was to explain that it wasn't a horrible gait. It may not be accurate for show, but who said this woman was showing?

  • well lol it was a very bad lope but it doesnt matter if u arent showing i suppose lol then again she was only telling u how to slow down and not what a gd lope is

  • Yeah. I never ment to argue with you. The only reason I mentioned this woman's lope was because I was sick of seeing all those comments about the horse being lame. It definetly isn't. And believe me, I'm not a fan of the four beat gait either. I'd rather ride the three beat anyday.

  • well no the horse isnt lame but its a really bad lope no offense. anyone that says this horse is lame...yall need to learn some more lol

but yeah no ive rode a four beated one and its a HARD thing to fix haha

  • it was a bad lope...

  • youre telling me this b/c? i know its a horrid lope

  • Thank You Kelly for taking the time and sharing these vids.

  • Agreed with RachieRae241 !

  • I dont ride western, but im pretty sure thats not lope?

  • um well haha it is but its not a good lope. its not a true lope. this is most likely an quarter horse and if it were to show it wouldnt do well at the big shows. its not the worst lope out there but u can tell this horse isnt worth as much as world or congress quality horses.

  • Im sorry you cant ride

  • she is horible with that poor mare. she needs to get fired, shes not teaching us anything!!! that wasnt even a lope. and i ride western all my life. i was riding a horse before i could walk!!! she acts like she just started riding 2 days ago!!!!! poor horse!!!

  • Did you just comment this video just to brag about your riding skills? I honestly believe this women knows more about horses than you do. You're obviously not understanding the meaning of this video & are too blind & ignorant to lean what it is.

That IS a lope. Most young western riders don't know that that's a four beat lope, or if they do, don't like it because they don't know how to teach their horse to collect themselves in that way.

  • Um..a four beat lope isn't good. A good lope keeps the natural 3 beat gait of the horse, while keeping the horse collected. Collection does not mean slowing down, it's more having the horse hold themselves properly.

  • A four beat lope is fine. If you don't like it, then don't teach it. It doesn't matter what you think is a good lope or not. This is how pleasure horses are trained to lope.

I'm aware collection doesn't always mean slowing down, but wouldn't you rather ride a horse who's collected at a pace that's more comforable to ride?

  • um actually u r wrong about the four beat gait. a lope is a 3 beat gait and thats how a lope is supposed to be. i dont know if u show aqha or anything but a four beat gait is what they call a "trope" or an untrue lope. and collection is having the horse up right and not sloppy in the legs

  • I don't show like you do and I don't know the technical name for the four beat gait, but that does not mean it's a horrible gait.

  • well this is a qh and yes a four beat gait is not a true lope and gets points taken off. i know judges and other people that know what the true gaits are. this is a qh so it would go in aqha. now idk what u show or what breed but if u show qh then u need to know a four beat lope is wrong and u will get deducted points for it.

  • Again, you're not understanding my point. Instead, you're boasting about your knowledge.

  • why do you keep saying poor horse? how old r u?

  • i barely even call that loping.

  • she isn't exactly telling us anything, if people dont know what to look for they wouldn't have learned anything.she should also talk about the different ways horses could be trained. the way i was taught if you want to slow down you touch his neck, and that gets him to collect and smooth his stride, also touching his neck and saying "whoa" gets the horses i ride to stop.I dont get it though, shouldnt a spur encourage the horse to move forward & not the opposite?

  • Well, you have to admit, it's just a video! You will not really learn anything unless you take lessons. Yo can not learn how to ride a horse by looking at videos onYouTube. If you think that, that's very pathectic.

  • That just depends on how much theory you know and if you know how the horse moves in relation to the rider. If you are an informed enough rider you can do a lot of improvement without lessons.

  • yeah, i know, i mean, you can learn alot from these vids, i mean, i love them! But if you've never riddena horse before and you watch all these vids, and think your an expert then hurt yourself. Weelll that wuldn't be good. And i was replying to a persons' comment.

  • her horse is spur stop trained so it's easy for her to breakdown without looking like she's doing much. her theory here seems to be that if your horse wants to go faster you break them down into a slower gait, therefore closing them off from going forward quicker. it's a good theory, but she's also using spur stopping...so it's a theory that needs to be used with another simultaneously.

  • hmm. She sounds like Jessica Simpson.

  • Break down? Sure sounds easy enough....HOW EXACTLY?

  • this horse seems to be spur trained. so it would be hard to tell you the ques to do these maneuvers as if you had a non- spur trained horse.

  • You are merely showing what can be done and what it looks like. You are not explaining how to do it. You should be telling what the cues are, if there is any change in contact on the bit, how to ask for upward and downward transitions, ETC.

  • well shes not telling shes showing i agree with rachierae241!!

  • You are not really telling us HOW to do this. ???

  • your really leaning back... try to sit up straighter.

  • She's obviously a riding teacher. I don't think you need to tell her what she's doing wrong. Really, I don't think she was leaning back. Alot of riders just can't sit their seat. She did very well.

  • hmmm.. no, she *thinks* she's a riding teacher, many people call themselves teachers or trainers but they really dont have a damn clue.

it doesnt take a lot to sit up straight, if you're going to teach, dont do it wrong it just makes you look like an ass. fjordhorses is completely in the right.

  • Finally-a voice of reason.

  • Rider who can't sit their seat....isn't sitting correctly the point of being a good rider?

  • Yes, but that's the thing. She is sitting her seat. You all are acting like she's bouncing around in the saddle. The only think I noticed was that she leaned back a little far. I'd rather see a rider lean back instead of forward. That definately shows bad riding skills.

  • she is sitting her seat. definatly not the best rider out there but she isnt as bad as ive seen at some shows

  • LOL...She is riding a western pleasure horse, you have to sit back in order to get the horse to engage from behind at a slow western lope....

  • i ride western pleasure with my quarter horse and to slow down his lope you should sit deep in the saddle and but weight in your heels. leaning that far back usually means stop not slow down. AND this leaning back to stop method ONLY works on horses that know what it means if a horse isn't used to that being part of a cue to stop it won't do a thing. this is clearly a well trained horse. leaning back on a horse that doesn't know could make things worse if in a bad situation.
