  • yeah coz they'd believe me

  • That fukcing stupid

  • can some1 plzzzzzzz tell me wot guitar hes using for this song?

  • national

  • it's called a dobro....nice metallic resonance to them because of that metal plate.

  • actually its a resonator, dobro you use like a lap steel. and also this plays like a regular guitar but on a dobro there are no frets, or at least you cant use them, its play like a fretless

  • no it is a dobro, it say's so in the tab book...

  • we love ya' Eric...the best

  • Ok just something I want to say, this isn't against any specific individual.

All these posts that say "I'm *insert age: 11-17* and i love this kind of music, rap/emo/punk/whatever is trash". I'm sick of them.

If there are so many of you that say it, then guess what, not everyone else listens to Top 40/whatever. That's my spiel. This kind of music, has for the most part, never been Top 40, pop music. It's usually very album oriented, not single oriented. Look at Zeppelin.

  • 11-17 thats a massive age gap for that type of thing

  • thats just the normal ages i see saying that statement.

  • true i agree

  • once and for all - E.C. is playing a 6-string resonator guitar in open G tuning - as previously mentioned, the d, g and b strings remain unchanged and some chords do look like standard tuning, thus the confusion. AND, Clapton's father was a Canadian soldier stationed in England during W.W. II.

    Canadian Picker

  • this song just getting better during the years. a true claasic like the whole unplugged album.

  • what eric clapton is chinese. just kiding great song though but that's no surprise it's eric clapton for godsake

  • In '93 when my mom was terminally ill, I kept playing Clapton's Unplugged cassette in my car and in my "Walkman" to keep me calm. My mother liked it, too, so I also kept it playing in her room. She passed when this song was ending. "When love comes over you..."

Best album ever. Thx for posting.

  • claptons real father was a canadian officer in the war. tho, he was born and raised in england.

  • ClassiClapton!

  • Clapton's biological father (whom he never met) was a Canadian military dude, but Clapton's English, born and raised.

  • Nice research

  • I only know this because it's in his book, which everyone should read, even if they're just a little curious. :)

On a side note, I love this version of Running on Faith, better than the record version.

  • no moron...He is from Reply England and he was born in 30 march 1945..so fuck you and dont write shit here :D

  • I think he was kidding. As in he wants to adopt Eric as a Canadian.

  • Hey, I'm American and we're claiming Eric Clapton. We gave Europe David Hasselhoff so why you complaining?

  • Clapton canadian!??...u wish mate...he`s british!!!

  • waht? CLAPTON IS NOT CANADIAN,,,

  • this is just fantastic...

  • While Clapton is less technical and 'progressive' than his friends Beck and Page, his life and music speak to me a lot more in many subtle and connective ways.

  • this made me buy a bottleneck yesterday

    love this sound

  • How good would you feel just to pick up a guitar at a party and be able to play this like Eric Clapton ? ..Just maybe thats why he gets called God. God of Guitar. FUCK ME! Got all carried away there!!

  • Probably one the finest Eric Clapton songs, its haunting power is indescribable.

  • i've watched this easily 50 times this week. obviously Clapton is great, but this version of this song is so good that its almost haunting. its like one of those really good movies where you almost forget that you're watching fiction, this version of this song is believable and incredible.

  • this is such an amazing song! Does anyone know who jerry lynn williams (the man who wrote this great piece) is? Just a great songwriter? or does he perform and record aswell?

    x

  • eric clapton has had a hell of a lot of women just one after another

  • old love the best. Con mucha diferencia. Y Chuck al piano el mejor junto con ray Cooper que es dios

  • the best song the clapton.(para mi)

  • what do you thinkof my cover? watch?v=htWolS5ofKA, id be interested to know what you think.

  • just thought id mention that clapton didnt write this song jerry lynn williams did

  • It still annoys me that everyone thinks layla is claptons best song. obviously everyone has thier favourites, but Layla was his shot at the singles charts, nothing more. It's not the heart that is in this tune for example.

  • actually they did have a radio version of layla that cut out the ending piano part and it did have popularity.

  • Anybody know what open key hes tuned in this song?

  • its in open-G tuning

    from low to high string

    D-G-D-G-B-D

    I LOVE THIS SONG

  • I know that Clapton is British. I did't say he wasn't british.

  • God the sliding is awesome.

  • Alot of flashy technical guitar players need a lesson from Clapton. Hes totally soulful and plays from the heart. Awsome.

  • stevie ray vaughan are also a great guitar player and yeah he is close cause he was also a singer and a songwriter like hendrix and clapton. sure richards and slash also write songs but they dont do more on stage than playing the guitar. hendrix, clapton and vaughan are/was also singers. so yeah vaughan comes close. but my opinion just gives the edge to hendrix and clapton but hey everybody got an opinion right ;)

  • Great!!♦♦♦!

  • great song, he is the man

  • Fantastic!

  • clapton and hendrix are the british and amerikan guitar gods. sorry to say it but peoble like, page, richards, slash and edv are all good but no one comes close to hendrix and clapton.

  • right. But... Hendrix was an American!. But the other things you said: I agree!!!

  • not even stevie ray vaughan?????

  • eric - you are the best!

  • This takes me back so many years, it seems like I was still a child when I saw this concert on MTV, but it's probably not that long ago....

  • You're absolutely right. They have both the electric and the unplugged version for us to sing. If I'm new to a place, I never know which one it is until I'm up there with the mic. Love both! ♪ ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ ♪♪ ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ ♪♪ ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ ♪♪

  • I saw him sing this live in Hyde Park a few weeks ago.. it was sublime.

  • always running on faith

  • This song is fucken awesoooooommmmmmmmeeee

  • lmao, I laughed out loud at this comment. :D it's so true, though.

  • His son wanted him to have more children because the love that poured from this man to that child needed to be repeated.

I hope he has 10 children.

  • Slowhand... gotta love his work

  • god, he's so great.

  • FUCKIN AWESOME

  • Impressive, all the way around. Great performance!

  • I think they paid someone about $5000 to tune that piano. It's exquisite. Not to forget the player, of course.

  • Ya need a lot of dough bro' to buy a Dobro! Nice Clapton performance.

  • That's right, it's called a Dobro Guitar or a Resonator Guitar. It has 6 strings, but its body has some metal parts that enhance its sound. For me, the dobro makes one of the most beuatiful sounds in the world of acoustic guitars.

  • No,he's playing a Dobro and a I think the other dude has a Guild or a Martin.

Clapton's looks like a 12 stringer because of the reflector from the resonator bowl (don't think that's the technical term, but screw it.)

  • Clapton's is a 6-string. The slotted headstock is longer than a solid one, making it look like a 12-string.

  • Yeah, that was confusing me a little. However,if you look closely when it's on the metal part of the guitar it looks like there are 2 strings on some of them.

  • I think that's just some reflection/shadow of the strings off the resonator cover. Bear in mind that the high strings are resonating as he's playing them here. Take a look, with the small screen at 2:26 - 2:31. I think it's pretty clear that it's a 6 string.

  • I know it's a 6 string;I was simply stating how someone could mistake it for one.

  • there are 6 tuning pegs. it cant be a 12 string. you would be able to hear it if it were a 12 string anyways

  • by the way, this song was awesome when i saw him live, at the excel energy center, sep/16/06, kick off of the american tour for 2006, it was awesome

  • That whole DVD can make cry. It's just so right. his voice matches the music, the lyrics, the sound of his guitar. it's just perfect

  • Clapton is god

  • DAMM RIGHT !

  • look at :00-6:17, thats the best part, please stop saying people that like 1:07-1:10 is the best, cause over all the whole song is the best of that song because its itself

  • give it a rest. every song he does is great, but in a live setting, certain sections stand out. cry about it if you want, but no one gives a shit what you think. if you disagree, don't read the comments.

  • i know there a parts that stick out, im just saying overall the whole song is amazing, like the I shot the sheriff solo on the 2004 crossroads guitar fest, haha if you wanna say things stick out. That solo sticks out for all solos of his =D clapton is amazing! sorry if it seemed like i was mad i something I was just saying its pretty obvious those parts stick out. Cheers

  • i was there last night

  • Love comes over you

  • wonderful

  • CLAPTON IS GOD

  • 3:07-3:10, look at him just pour that emotion out =)

  • es un groso!!!aguante claton!!

  • I went to his concert in Tampa,FL last night and it was the best motherfriggin' concert I've ever been to in my life. In fact, it wasn't a concert, it was an spectacle.

  • Clapton's voice is so pure, so charismatic, so perfect

    i love it

  • Such an amazingly good chill out album!

  • tied with Alice in Chains for the best MTV unplugged ever.

  • Nirvana's isn't too bad either?

  • its fine... nothing special in my opinion. AIC's sounded so much different from the album versions and Clapton's was crisp and had some classic songs. Nirvana's was good, but it wasn't exciting to me.

  • I don't know, Stevie Ray Vaughan was pretty nasty in his unplugged. He was supposed to jam with Satriani, but he had to get out of there for a gig with Double Trouble, or so that's what they said on MTV.

  • also like the version of this song from the journeyman album . clapton's versatility is fantastic . from flat to fingerpicking to slide . growing up without a daddy and overcoming the addictions and the death of his son . this song must have a particularly special meaning to him . i'm now 58 and have been a fan since the cream days .

  • My fiance and I are considering this song for first dance at our wedding. It is such an honest and beautiful love song. Clapton rocks.

  • ... Brings back great memories, she was my favorite mistake...

  • Great song. Hard time saviour

  • Baby ive been talking in my sleep... cant imagine what id have to say

  • One of my lifetime favourite..

    Clapton is a great musician

  • One of my lifetime favourite..

    Clapton is a great musician

  • perfection

  • the best clapton

  • Its oggd to know what you like but i dont really draw the line anywhere. I listened to Eazy-E all day, Bodom on the ride home, and now a bunch of clapton and B.B. King. some decemberists in there too

  • Running on faith..story of my life

    Thanks for posting..5*'s

  • thats the spirit mate! Dont Worry its good to have this song for your life!

  • great musician great song

  • Clapton is my favorite as well as Creedence clearwater revival and im 15 most people i know just like garbage music.

  • i love this song even i like metallica and that sort of stuff

  • the original version of this is really good too, check it out if you can!

  • Which era do you dig the most? Personally, Cream is my favourite. The Yardbirds era is decent, the Blind Faith album is great, and Derek & The Dominos, and especially Clapton's work with the great Duane Allman is stellar. Don't really dig Clapton's 80s pop, nor most of his 90s work, minus From the Cradle. I was pleasantly surprised by Reptile.

  • Yeah, Cream was great, but Reptile and Pilgrim was imo the best era

  • i agree completely

  • he plays it with his heart and thats what makes him so fuckin special <3 genious

  • Yee ha!

  • I think that its our generation that must bring start to play more guitar music beaccuse

there is not many young good guitar players and if we dont do that the rap music will take over

  • i totally agree man ! Im working on playing like the legends ! love this song

  • the best version is when you see him live. the emotion he puts off while send more chills up your spine than this does

  • your not alone, i'm also 16 and i must say: nothing is better than claptons music or clapton himself (clapton is god!)

  • right! and I'm just 14!

  • I'm a fetis!

    Just fuckin' with ya.

  • i'm a twinkle in my fathers eye

  • I'm 16 ;-)

This Version is the best ever...!

  • bellissimo!! very good!! MAGNIFICO

    carlo (italy)

  • awesome

  • he is an absolute legend!!!! very welldone

  • I am 16 too, Clapton's music is the only music you will find on my computer when i first heard his music i was 12 my dad had a dvd that came with the new computer he bought and it had layla unplugged on it i couldn't stop watching it i just liked the sound of the guitar :)

  • I think Chuck LaBelle is awesome on piano this entire concert. imo one of the best out there, so pure

  • goosebumps..

  • This song's so awesome.

i'm only 15 but i'm so glad i appreciate artists as good as this.

amazing. such a nice song aswell.

  • im 15 too i was 13 i think when i heard clapton the first time and i just love him

  • Eighteen, was only about twelve when I heard unplugged, was hooked. From this to blues, got to see where it all came from.

  • id change my fuckin name!!!

  • you can play this in standard tuning...g..d..em7...thats the verse part

  • He is the best. Such a good singer

  • this is by far my personal favourite from the unplugged show. such a sweet song.

  • mannnnnnnn, this is awsome

  • and my world will be right...

  • Clapton is God !

  • I Love Clapton(L) warms my heart:).

  • how sweet it is

  • I love EC so much! He`s one of the best guitarplayers ever!

  • from 4:56 on is just INCREDIBLE

  • What a song .... what a guitar player ... Clapton is still my favorite

  • With this release of this video/CD, Clapton single handedly brought the blues back to the forefront of music for a whole new generation and generations yet to come. He's true hero in my book. Someone the youth of the world should look up to instead of brittany, paris, lindsay and that God awful hannah montana!

I hope you never die Eric. The world won't be the same with you! Much love my good man!

  • +1. this album is what opened my eyes to blues and led me to other work of his like cream and derek and the dominos. and from there i found many other people. i dont know where id be without this album. its pretty much what made me want to really play the guitar and not only that, but make great music.

  • this is what music is about.

for I realy am running on faith and this song is saying it like I'm feeling it

    a prayer for my love

may she not leave me just yet!

    I love you mama

  • loves comes over you!

    just wonderful!

  • i consider song like this soothing ahhhhhhhh relaxation.

  • Betcha u don't who invented the slide guitar.U will never guess: The HAWAIIANS. Trip on that one. Beautiful, huh, just like this song! They get no respect...Sweeeet. Thanx 4 posting.

  • man...i love it, god, he sings incredible...

  • It is definetly open G tuning.

  • sliding guitar awesome

EC FAN FOR 20 YEARS THE BEST

  • any musicians out there?? what his guitar tuning

  • I can't be sure, but I would venture it's open G.

  • I just went through and learned this and his tuning is standard E (EADGBE) tuning - that is what the beauty of Clapton's playing is. He can play slide in standard tuning beautifully. This song is a brilliant example.

  • if u listen at the end of the song on the album.. you can hear him strumming on the guitar, and it sounds like open G to me. maybe D, but im pretty sure its open G

  • Nah. He's strumming the chords of the song: GMaj, FMaj, CMaj in their native positions. The slide licks all bar off of the 5th fret (CMaj) and 7th fret (DMaj) in standard E tuning. You can see it in the video pretty easily and I learned every lick from watching his hand position in this video.

  • hey! I've got the guitar recorded version tab book for Unplugged and it is in open G. You certainly can play it in standard tuning, but he played it in G during the concert.

  • Sorry, but your book must be wrong - the author obviously didn't see this video. Look at time 3:58-4:03. He very clearly plays a standard G, F, and C chord in standard tuning which is the chord progression of the song.

  • Hey I went home and checked my book, just for you. It is in open G. you have to keep in mind that three of the strings aren't tuned differently, the D,G, and B. If you were playing on those strings obviously it would sound the same. He plays some open chords at the end along with the G,F and C you mentioned. It certainly wouldn't sound that good without tuning your guitar differently. Hope you have a good day

  • It is indeed played in open G

  • ahhh aw man he's just awsome! not mnay people cna pull that off, nothing but you and an acoustic. he's the best. x x x

  • This is one of those albums that I'd have 'on a desert island'. Amazing stuff. Bought it orginally in '92 and still listen to it.

  • love this

  • try looking up hendrix...playing hear my train a coming...on an acoustic 12 string...and see if he sucks at unplugged..absoulte class...not better than clapton though

  • he wasn't very good on that 12 string, you have to admit, considering how good he was on an electric.. just not his scene i guess. not bad though, and its a great song

  • yeah right

  • What 12-string? are you hearing the same song? It's a Dobro guitar (aka Resonator) which is awesome for Acoustic Blues and Clapton is a God on both Electic and Acoustic guitar
