If there are so many of you that say it, then guess what, not everyone else listens to Top 40/whatever. That's my spiel. This kind of music, has for the most part, never been Top 40, pop music. It's usually very album oriented, not single oriented. Look at Zeppelin.
once and for all - E.C. is playing a 6-string resonator guitar in open G tuning - as previously mentioned, the d, g and b strings remain unchanged and some chords do look like standard tuning, thus the confusion. AND, Clapton's father was a Canadian soldier stationed in England during W.W. II.
In '93 when my mom was terminally ill, I kept playing Clapton's Unplugged cassette in my car and in my "Walkman" to keep me calm. My mother liked it, too, so I also kept it playing in her room. She passed when this song was ending. "When love comes over you..."

Which era do you dig the most? Personally, Cream is my favourite. The Yardbirds era is decent, the Blind Faith album is great, and Derek & The Dominos, and especially Clapton's work with the great Duane Allman is stellar. Don't really dig Clapton's 80s pop, nor most of his 90s work, minus From the Cradle. I was pleasantly surprised by Reptile.

With this release of this video/CD, Clapton single handedly brought the blues back to the forefront of music for a whole new generation and generations yet to come. He's true hero in my book. Someone the youth of the world should look up to instead of brittany, paris, lindsay and that God awful hannah montana!
I hope you never die Eric. The world won't be the same with you! Much love my good man!
+1. this album is what opened my eyes to blues and led me to other work of his like cream and derek and the dominos. and from there i found many other people. i dont know where id be without this album. its pretty much what made me want to really play the guitar and not only that, but make great music.
Betcha u don't who invented the slide guitar.U will never guess: The HAWAIIANS. Trip on that one. Beautiful, huh, just like this song! They get no respect...Sweeeet. Thanx 4 posting.
I just went through and learned this and his tuning is standard E (EADGBE) tuning - that is what the beauty of Clapton's playing is. He can play slide in standard tuning beautifully. This song is a brilliant example.
if u listen at the end of the song on the album.. you can hear him strumming on the guitar, and it sounds like open G to me. maybe D, but im pretty sure its open G
Nah. He's strumming the chords of the song: GMaj, FMaj, CMaj in their native positions. The slide licks all bar off of the 5th fret (CMaj) and 7th fret (DMaj) in standard E tuning. You can see it in the video pretty easily and I learned every lick from watching his hand position in this video.
hey! I've got the guitar recorded version tab book for Unplugged and it is in open G. You certainly can play it in standard tuning, but he played it in G during the concert.
Sorry, but your book must be wrong - the author obviously didn't see this video. Look at time 3:58-4:03. He very clearly plays a standard G, F, and C chord in standard tuning which is the chord progression of the song.
Hey I went home and checked my book, just for you. It is in open G. you have to keep in mind that three of the strings aren't tuned differently, the D,G, and B. If you were playing on those strings obviously it would sound the same. He plays some open chords at the end along with the G,F and C you mentioned. It certainly wouldn't sound that good without tuning your guitar differently. Hope you have a good day
try looking up hendrix...playing hear my train a coming...on an acoustic 12 string...and see if he sucks at unplugged..absoulte class...not better than clapton though
he wasn't very good on that 12 string, you have to admit, considering how good he was on an electric.. just not his scene i guess. not bad though, and its a great song
What 12-string? are you hearing the same song? It's a Dobro guitar (aka Resonator) which is awesome for Acoustic Blues and Clapton is a God on both Electic and Acoustic guitar

any musicians out there?? what his guitar tuning
limestick 4 years ago
I can't be sure, but I would venture it's open G.

Jermis909 4 years ago

LittleGreen88 4 years ago

It is indeed played in open G

This is one of those albums that I'd have 'on a desert island'. Amazing stuff. Bought it orginally in '92 and still listen to it.

try looking up hendrix...playing hear my train a coming...on an acoustic 12 string...and see if he sucks at unplugged..absoulte class...not better than clapton though
leanonme78 4 years ago
he wasn't very good on that 12 string, you have to admit, considering how good he was on an electric.. just not his scene i guess. not bad though, and its a great song
Agar101 4 years ago
yeah right
leanonme78 4 years ago
What 12-string? are you hearing the same song? It's a Dobro guitar (aka Resonator) which is awesome for Acoustic Blues and Clapton is a God on both Electic and Acoustic guitar
