Union Ironworkers are the most skilled, trained and experienced in their field.  A unionized building trade requires hours of experience and trade school completion to be a Journeyman. Welders and riggers need to be qualified and certified. Would you want your building worked on by an unlicensed contractor with uncertified labor?

I would only hire union hands for my jobs that I do, just for the simply reason because you get a better quality worker, that has been schooled in Ironwork. 9 times out of 10 a non union Ironworker would love to join a union. Wages, Pension, Annuity, Vacation Pay, Health Insurance, Representation and Union Pride are just a few differences.

If you got hired from HomeDepot and are happy with your wages, stay where your at.

If your going to school to get welding certs. or are tired of working for peanuts, call the Local Union in your area.

Make a few test passes on some scrap. Make sure your flux is turning a light shade of Brown.The first pass on that beveled plate is the most important. Make sure you clean your lens real good. Get in a comfortable postion you can remain in for a hour or so. And as you well the pulse should feel crispy and it sound like bacon sizzling. Good Luck Hambone.

i go to college upstate new york for my welding degree. I'm knocking out my D.O.T. tests, 3g and 4g on 1" plate ran with 7018-5/32". Any of you ironworkers have any suggestions for a young welder from new york?

U wanted to talk to the owner about proper wages first!I think the employee can determine what he/she will work for.U dont know that those welders dont have Certs. NonUnionwelders can get certified the same way as union.Building falling over,get out of here with that B.S., and thats what it is.What are u an engineer too.You can tell by the look on his face when he said that.Hes full of it.NONUNION hands work gets inspected the same way by the same inspectors(sub and or city)as your work does!
