If someone could find vintage footage of the Wailers, the Sonics, the Viceroys, or the Beachcombers...that would be truly amazing....
In terms of seeing the "original Kingsmen" that recorded the song, so as far I as I know, there is NO film or video footage ANYWHERE.
This is a video of the original singer from the Kingsmen. He left the band before they became famous, and was forbidden to use the "Kingsmen" name. So if you want to hear the guy that sang on the actual recording, this is it.
Louie Louie is my all time favorite song, and this is such a treat to see the Lead singer from the group that made this song a "hit." Richard Berry was the songwriter for Louie Louie, and I still prefer his own bluesie version the best over any and all otherss. Do you have any videos of Richard Berry doing this fantastic song? Please, POST it!! Got anymore wonderful videos like this?
You're in luck! I posted a clip of Richard Berry performing in 1989 at a little club in Mountain View, California.... many years before Google took root in that town.
Was this tied in to one of the Louie Marathons at KFJC? I went up and jammed (guitar) on the tune with Berry and Ely in a little broadcast studio. Took some slide photos too, which I lent to Stretch Riedle (not returned as yet....)
The only connection between this show and the KFJC marathon was the fact that I was the only one shooting video at either event. I have NOT shared the KFJC marathon footage yet, but all in good time...
Stretch didn't return your slides? I'll go yell at him...
Same weekend, though? No sweat re slides; sure they're in good hands. Rumor I heard long ago: Johnny Otis got wind that Louie Louie was a hot tune in the Great Northwest, so scooped up the song by paying Richard Berry $3,000 for it just before Berry would have realized it would start to pay huge royalties for airplay and record sales. Is that accurate?
The Richard Berry Mt. View show in 1989 marked the first time he returned to KFJC area since his legal victory. He was in really great spirits for that show. When he first visited KFJC in 1983, he was struggling with welfare, and had no idea LOUIE LOUIE was such a big deal.
Ha Ha Ha! Alright, Kando, you wise guy... I know who YOU work for... To parphrase the late Lloyd Bentsen, I know Dick Peterson, and Jack ain't no Dick Peterson!
aw man, I was there....

The KFJC marathon happened in 1983, and this video was shot in 1999, two years after Richard Berry died, so no... it wasn't the same weekend.
I'd never heard that Johnny Otis rumor, but I can tell you it's just that - a rumor. Johnny Otis never owned LOUIE LOUIE.

Erkkk...I knew that, about the same weekend--I was thinking of the MV Berry appearance clip & thought I was commenting on that. Too much...confused.
