  • Please instead of commenting just LISTEN !

  • looks like 4 people are deaf retards.

  • @Liquidskeleton 5 now.

  • @tomorama123 Then why are you here? nothing better to do in your pathetic life?

  • @tomorama123 lol the troll likes deadmouse, let it be man, lost ones lol

  • @tomorama123 You are shit. Shut the fuck up.

  • @tomorama123

You're a waste of fucking breath, I feel pity on any soul that has the severe misfortune of encountering you. Go choke on a sweaty ballsack.

  • @Bendrix27 You sounded sophisticated until the last sentence, lol.. no offence.

  • @Jhosk95

Need you even speak of such matters? I replied to an utter moron in a moronic fashion , it is the only real way to get through.

  • @tomorama123 I love you :)

  • @weslyhook67 I agree. I dont believe it was a suicide by any means.

  • what a beautyful song...

  • It's pleasing and freezing. God, this is one of his more introspective numbers. He sweeps me up.

  • this is my favourite off of new moon. it's hard to do favourites, but this is probably way up on my list for new moon songs.

  • he was murdered.. dont just assume he stabed himself several times without "hesitation marks" just cause his music was sad.. read the coroners report.. his supposed suicide note sounds nothing like him.. his bitch gf did it. i miss him so much.. such a good friend to me

  • @weslyhook67 on that same note he also spelled his name wrong. who ever wrote the suicide note forgot the second t in Elliott. kinda weird.

  • he was doomed but what fabulous songs.

  • Incredible song by a truly awsome talent

  • I love you, Elliott. You have given me so much to think about, so much to keep me moving forward in my life, you have healed me and saved me so many times I can't count. I've been listening to you my whole life. I love and miss you so much...I hope I can meet you someday after we all leave this world. Rest in peace my sweet angel, my hero. <3

  • R.I.P. Elliott...

  • Ghost of your smile is always looking for

    New bodies to haunt

And it's been here, it is up here

He's hanging around and he'll float for a while

    Gradually gone

    It's pleasing and freezing

While I wonder what it is you're after

    Keeping company with this disaster

  • Elliot smith is one of the most unappreciated artist ever.

  • @Ziggystarlullaby *underappreciated

  • get it straight people..... elliott smith was & still is a gift from god. make no mistake!

  • @cricketswings: You certainly can do that. On the other hand Alcoholics Anonymous is a great design for LIVING. It makes life not easy but simple. You will never make better friends than in the rooms of AA. We're saving a seat for you.

  • @gkamano no thanks i'll take my chances in the dirt, where i belong.

  • @cricketsinwigs Reminds me of Nick Drake. "Look down and maybe you'll see me in the dirt."

  • "for I am the parasite who hangs from your skirt"

  • @breeeegs nick drake! eerie how the best musicians die tragically...but i just found out about elliott smith. he's growing on me the same way nick drake did a year ago

  • They were both brilliant and one of a kind, never to be forgotten

  • @and1234z i was thinking the same thing

  • @gkamano AA is a cult if I've ever seen one. Stay strong and stay clean but most importantly don't join a cult. I wish you well my friend.

  • Thank you for putting this up, I haven't heard it before. RIP Elliott.

  • omgd utube is turning fashist. Please may i comment about the guitar playing small people lol.Music is for everyone even the scum).

  • I wish he was still around. To go see him live would be.. well. Amazing.

  • yes elliott was sad but i think we should just think of him as a poet just a great writer

  • Looks like 4 people don't know how to turn their speakers on.

  • I hope i can drink myself to death.

  • @cricketsinwigs benzo helps! i'm in the same roullete

  • This song is about being attached to a past event which hinders you to the point where you'd rather stick with it than know what the world has to offer...because you can always count on it and people who are not affected by it always look the same. I have had emotionally abusive parents all my life and i know exactly what this is-its a question as to why he himself chooses to be faithful to something that isn't his-that isn't real. This is about feeling guilt for not overcoming your master..

  • @relsismada I was thinking pretty close to the same thing as you at possibly the same exact time as you, pretty weird, Elliott 4ever

  • I just had a pretty bad night hangin with a newly met woman at the bar. She'd been dealing with a womanizing pos man....

Anyhow, i tried to get to know her cuz i genuinely cared. But she ended foolin around a little with another womanizing pos. I told her... warned her. She just didn't seem to care.

This song reminds me of people like her. "Why you never try to tame your master" refers to allowing people to walk all over you.

  • beautiful song..

    we miss you man.....

  • Say no to crack boys and girls

  • Sooo freakin true. I think sadly too many of us kids live his heartache for the world, humanity, lack of humanity in the world, the sad state of things just like he does anyways. Not through impersonation, just through similar insight. Beautiful advice though JiubLink.

  • This song makes me want to curl up into a ball and rock back and forth to the beat.

  • his music is so timeless. the feeling that it creates in me is indescribable. i could stumble across a song of his that i've never heard, and feel like i've found an old friend...just like i could listen to a song that i've had on repeat for 3 days, and feel like i'm discovering something brand new. he mixes magic into his music.

  • Elliott Smith pours soo much emotion into his songs. I honestly don't know how people CAN'T love his music. You can hear the pain in his voice, the anger, or the happiness. It evokes emotions in you, no matter who you are.

    RIP Elliott Smith

  • don't impersonate [emulate?] it".

Did someone just earn their MSW or maybe a bachelor's in clinical psych?

  • What is the warning of his music? Don't be born with a depressive disposition? Don't be short, homely , sensitive? His depression was a consequence of the inalterable conditions of his life. Fortunately for him, he was also endowed with the industry (though making music was for him effortless by his own admission) and talent to transmogrify his depression into beautiful, poignant, and sincere music.

  • This undoubtedly added years to his life. Depression is not a lifestyle and those who romanticize it haven't experienced it first hand. Romanticizing depression is therefore not a danger because it is characteristic of those who dont actually suffer from major depression and who arent really at risk.

  • elliotts music just reaches out and embraces the listener

  • Sometimes I wish Elliott Smith were still alive, but he's resting now. ♡

  • Anyone can be a junkie or an alchy they wont make this.I think its poetry.Every race romanticises genius .The Christians had Jesus he would love Elliot Smith lol.

  • hes dead enjoy the music ).

  • Peace :) :)

  • man i love his music its so calm and beautiful

  • imagine what greatness this man would've produced if his life wasn't unfairly cut short. love him. so original, so easy -he doesn'ts sound like he is trying to sound amazing...he just is amazing. do not know how bieber (beyber?) could have more views. complete respect for this man.

  • You turned 41 yesterday.

    We miss you.

  • He turned 41 yesterday.

    We miss you.

  • dont imitate elliott you'll only become what you hate

  • Elliot Smith recaptures a sense of magic I haven't felt since I first listened to songs by The Beatles when I was a kid.

This is the music I've been looking for... it's weird to describe.

  • @Canadianabanana welcome home:) funny I've been geting into the Beatles a little more because Elliott does a few of their covers.

  • @Canadianabanana I know exactly what you mean....It makes me feel the same way. Thank you Elliott.

  • Just like all his music, this song leaves me completely speechless. Seems everything he created reminds me of some very troublsome painful days awhile back with my first relationshi[p(t)]. Personally, i hate being reminded of it but it feels so good to know I'm not the only shmuck who lost his head to a stupid girl.

  • @icec0rpse your first mistake was thinking that you can relate!

  • fucking wicked song !!

  • everbody's the same in this long no-win game.

  • Rest In Peace.

It doesn't seem fair does it??

    Wow. Amazing Song.

  • @Graciefrance No, it doesn't seem fair that the man who tried to kill himself more than once and failed, then got clean of his drug habits, poor eating habits was murdered by his girlfriend.

  • I often wonder how big an artist Elliott Smith could have became.Possibly on a par with the likes of Neil Young and Bob Dylan as American folk legends?.I believe he was that good.

  • @gordonw01 He was way better than any of those who you mentioned

  • @valahogy i agree with u man those do suck lol

  • Elliott.. you know? your song is pure and make my heart beautifully.......

  • I bought this CD a couple months ago. Its a masterpiece

    RIP Elliott Smith

  • R.I.P. Elliot and my friend Daniel. This song was played on the slide show at Danny's memorial. It was always his favorite song and I felt it was a beautiful tribute to him. It almost sounds like it was written for him.

  • @busterapeture this comment just made me cry.

  • RIP Elliot Smith.

    <3

  • this song is aaamazing.

    elliott is a god.

    rip man. :)

  • I told you man, I told you.

  • 100th person to rate it awesome :) <3

  • My magic lightbulb says you're destined for greatness.

  • and if that were to actually come true, i'd be thrilled, but things arent lookin so good for me now, but thank you :)

&' R.I.P Elliott Smith, ur music has gave me a new perspective on life <3

  • I can almost bawl. This is way too beautiful.

  • Elliott was a troubled person. Be careful not to romanticize the tragedy he lived. His pain produced beautiful music, but it is as much a warning as it is a gift to us all.

Learn from his heartache. Don't impersonate it.

  • I love Elliott music, but you are absolutly right.

  • you should write a book, what you just said was superb

  • Thankyou very much. I'm trying, as it happens. ^_^

  • @JiubLink A good way to look at his music ^.^

  • @JiubLink

BE COOL, STAY IN SCHOOL!!!!!!!!! ; )

  • @JiubLink that is the best advise I've seen on youtube. great job fella

  • I totally agree...its dangerous to try to be him...you cannot be this paintfully passionate if you hadn't gone through a lot of pain yourself...love him, don't be him..

  • @JiubLink

    Well said.

  • @JiubLink

Very, very excellent comment, and sound advice.

    RIP Elliott

  • @JiubLink In certain situasions the pain can be a good thing

  • @JiubLink Thanks world police

  • @MattyMattThing Do yourself a favour and don't be too proud to take advice. Unlike the Police I don't punish those who ignore. They do a good job of punishing themselves ;)

  • @JiubLink yes..

  • @JiubLink Elliot is not the only troubled person in the world, obviously, and I am sure that a lot of people can relate to or interpret to relate to his songs. I don't think you necessarily need to warn adults.

  • @blissfulhippiegirl You'd be surprised.

  • @JiubLink Quite harder done than said, man!

  • @JiubLink best comment i've ever read. 100% truth.

  • @JiubLink jesus christ youre so goddamn smart

  • @JiubLink Just because I romanticize the tragedy he lived does not mean that I am doomed to repeat it in my own life. That's silly.

  • @JiubLink Feels like a warning from himself, you're certainly a clear sighted person.

  • the intro shatters my emotions

  • i love his lyrics. sometimes you can tell its sad or blissful or whatever. its life itself

  • Happy birthday elliott one month too late :S I love your music because you tell it like it is.....hard.....but worth it

  • Now I remember why I always called Elliott a genius, after listening to this song.

    Rest in peace.

  • Rest in Peace Elliott Smith. We miss you so much and love you. and I agree with you my brother, he was such a genius.

  • Congrats Elliott (one day too late).

  • happy birthday elliott..you would have been 40 today..rest in peace, man.

  • @stcnobody ah... sad.......

  • I've heard this song several times since its release, but after listening to it on here, I just decided this is a far greater song than I gave it credit for.

  • since i saw the movie of "Good Will Hunting", his musics has been giving my life more colorations....those melodies....thank you for sharing my weak minds.

  • If New Moon were released as a double album when he was alive, it would be his best/

  • yeah dugger you suck ass

  • Wow. I've been listening to Elliott for a long time and I'm still enthralled. Absolutely genius.

  • Why wouldn't "beautiful" and "depressing" go together? Every aspect of life is beautiful. Without sadness, their wouldn't be happiness.. and so on.

  • im beautifully depressed, one of my favorite songs to play right now.

  • I know I shouldn't be, but this comment has me rolling.

  • there is beauty in sadness because at least you can feel, some people deal with empathy in different ways some make fun others just try to understand.

  • i told you man i told you...

  • God elliot Thx u...i just cant explain

  • it's not exactly "depressing" it's more "beautiful"

  • The song is beautiful, its meaning is depressing.

  • beautiful. but the most depressing song ive ever heard

  • Well, I wonder what it is you're after.

  • soooooo soooooooooooothing

  • this song is amazing

  • he was an amazing person and musician.. he'll always be one of my favourites<3

  • i jus wish i could tell him thank you for being one of the people that understand- i love music that feeds my soul!!

  • Thank you Elliott.

  • love you elliott

    xo

  • Probably the best song on New Moon - but why pick? You just blow through the coals.

  • Elliott, I could listen to your amazing songs for hours.

    R.I.P

  • more like years :)

  • my favorite song by him. :]

  • i love so much that he continues to inspire and provoke expression of that what is really in all of us. Human feeling, and the idea that we can all do that. It's something that has been desperately lacking (at least for me), and I love everyone that connect with that.

There's is nothing more alive than a soul unsure.

  • i have empathy for your comment.

do you know SUMO? check out ' Warm Mist' or 'Brighton Past' in youtube.

    Luca is a hidden gem.

    bye

  • i used to like elliott when i first heard him, but 2 years later it's completely different now. He's not just another musician I like. his music has such a serious effect on me. he's just amazing.

  • don't worry all - here it is, for all

  • i can't say how happy and sad i feel to

read these comments written by people who

see the beauty in elliott's music. who i think

miss him as much as i do. and more than anything

i'm so happy that elliott existed at all. all the times

that his music has made me cry and smile at the same

    time. thank you elliott.

  • elliott you are amazing and i hope that write now you are somewhere making more great music!! Your words are haunting and beautiful and powerful! Your melodies are moving and bittersweet! You are greatly missed and will always be in my heart! I love you Elliott! Even through all the pain you went through, you managed to make wonderful, amazing music!

  • It makes me sad that I did not discover Elliott until after his death like many people, and how I wish I could go back. My brother put in the Elliott Smith CD on the way to school one morning and ever since then I just couldn't get enough. He then told me that Elliott was gone.I did not want to believe him that such beauty could be taken away, but it is true.I try to tell anyone who will listen about Elliott because his music is medicine.I love it when I hear that new people have discovered him

  • i think its really great when people just 'click' with his music. There's a lot to choose from so maybe just matters what song you hear first

  • ditto

  • this is quickly becoming my absolute favorite elliott smith song. I wish i had gotten into his music earlier than this. he's incredible

  • sounds like u'll find many more absolute favorites, wink***

  • love you elliott

    xo

  • such a soothing and melancholic song. Love it so much

  • amazing, pure greatnes.. i love when he says master , it just gets so twisted

  • Damn i wish he was still alive.

We miss you Elliott, but at least you're happier now, wherever you are... <3

  • I wish Elliott was happier..

  • @Vandooorrr

    +100

  • @Vandoooorrr

Agreed. This should be one of the highest-rated comments...

  • incomprahensively

  • I like this video, seriously. It says "new moon...uncomprahensibly fucking good"

  • my god, the brilliance never ends. thank you god for letting their be an elliott smith!!!

  • my fav song

the first that i heard from him...it makes me crying for hours

  • One of my favorite songs.

  • i love this song, my second fav by him ^_^ RIP ELLIOT!!

  • reely amazing song.. i wish he had gotn to make a video for this song :'(

  • even though were totaly invading his privacy by listening to anything from this albulm i fucking love this somg

  • how are we invading his privacy

  • he didnt want this albulm released after he died they found these songs in his belongings or something

  • oh holy crap rlly?!!! nonw i feel kinda bad but i still love this album, where did u get this information anyway?

  • no thats not true, in a basement on the hill was soppused to be a double album with like 30 tracks and when he died they released as only a single, he wanted this stuff released, and there was about 10 songs that he didn'y want to release but that was because he personally didn't like hearing the songs due to a blown friendship, but i don't think he would mind now that he doen't have to hear them

  • elliott smith is my hero
