@ShinyPikatwo They lost their biggest offensive against the rebels. Their leader is dead and they are all aware that rebel ships have infiltrated the Death Star and are on a b-line for the reactor. They know that every second they waste equates to less survival chance, and they don't know about Luke being a Jedi. Vader and Palp didn't make that common knowledge. To them he's another guy helping their boss get away and with Vader over his shoulder chances are they'd hit him instead.

I see this scene as very symbolic. Even that 'dun dun dun daaa da dun daaa da dun' of the harp is so peaceful... yet happens to be the famous Empire Strikes Back theme we all know about. It shows, at least to me, how at the very core of us is indeed selfishness, but if you think about it, that 'selfishness' is only the desire for comfort and intimacy. Anakin felt he lost that by losing Padme, not realising that the ability to love is there to stay, it just needs to be unlocked. Good death.

This scene I am almost certain have dealt with the death of a parent on their death bed or something like that. Anyone who has experienced something like this scene must have bawled like there was no tommorow for this scene is the most realistic of all time: truth be told.

Which is another problem with releasing a pre-quel several years later is offently the change in ideas and designs (for example the aliens in parts 4 to 6 looked alot more hairy than in 1 to 3)

I hate the expanded universe. Because in the sequel-comic books Luke joins the Dark side. So this scene and Obi-Wan's death doesn't mean nothing for Luke! I just hate the expanded universe for that! Ok, the prequel-spin offs and the clone wars tv series are fine, but after the 6th episode there is nothing more for me.

@KCiAzN As he was carrying the Emperor, he was hit by force lightning. This damaged his life support suit, hence his raspy breathing towards the end. With his suit damaged, he could only live for a short while longer.

Despite how poorly the prequels were presented, it DID tell the story of Anakin so i appreciate them for that.. I am not a star wars geek so i didn't read up on it prior to the prequel films.

With that said, it does make this scene so much sadder knowing for the first time in 25 years at-least Anakin finally smiled, an sadly it was also the last time he did too.
