@bcharlesgagne Because Vader was immaculately conceived by the microbes that make up the Force as the result of Force experiments done by Palpatine and his master some time before Episode I and some future seeing Jedi from a thousand years before saw it go down.
i wish they hadn't removed his eyebrows. i know that they did it to connect to his immolation at the end of Revenge of the Sith, but now that you take that into account and consider the version when he had his eyebrows, it show that of all the damage done by the fire, one area managed to heal successfully. in other words, it adds to the symbolic reveal that he wasn't a machine, but a human. not only that, but they bring more focus to his eyes and give his pale, scarred face more emotion as well
@ShinyPikatwo They lost their biggest offensive against the rebels. Their leader is dead and they are all aware that rebel ships have infiltrated the Death Star and are on a b-line for the reactor. They know that every second they waste equates to less survival chance, and they don't know about Luke being a Jedi. Vader and Palp didn't make that common knowledge. To them he's another guy helping their boss get away and with Vader over his shoulder chances are they'd hit him instead.
@ShinyPikatwo Yeah, because I'm sure every one of them will be so concerned with one rebel while their entire base of operations is crashing down around them. Because, you know, taking the unnecessary time to shoot one rebel while tons of debris could potentially fall on your head and crush you is a smart when you're running for your life.
@ShinyPikatwo Luke wasn't the official leader of the Rebellion. Admiral Ackbar was the top commanding officer in the Alliance military forces, and Mon Monthma was the primary person in terms of advertising the rebellion, even going so far as losing her place in the Senate to do so. Luke was merely a special forces operative and a hero, although the Emperor and Vader kept a great deal about Luke's role in the rebellion secret, so that the Emperor might get a new apprentice.
this scene really tells a lot this lord who had powers beyond anything imaginable turned out to be a simple man this scene is very touching because of that
@ShinyPikatwo They probably assumed he had turned to the dark side already or honestly just didn't care and wanted to get out of there with their lives.
I see this scene as very symbolic. Even that 'dun dun dun daaa da dun daaa da dun' of the harp is so peaceful... yet happens to be the famous Empire Strikes Back theme we all know about. It shows, at least to me, how at the very core of us is indeed selfishness, but if you think about it, that 'selfishness' is only the desire for comfort and intimacy. Anakin felt he lost that by losing Padme, not realising that the ability to love is there to stay, it just needs to be unlocked. Good death.
@CaptainCretaceous91 Yep : ) That's part of why this is such a great scene. He passed on, living up to the foretelling of the woman he loved incredibly and lost... in that sense, she never left him.
I haven't seen too many death scenes but with all honesty this one is the best I have ever seen!! This scene I am almost certain have dealt with the death of a parent on their death bed or something like that. Anyone who has experienced something like this scene must have bawled like there was no tommorow for this scene is the most realistic of all time: truth be told.
Why did he need that suit to keep him alive? When he was burned on Mustafar did it affect his breathing? Or was there something on the suit that was wired to his heart and kept it beating?
As Anakin loved Padme/ his mother I wonder if he would've striked them down if they opposed him. I mean, he did try and keep Luke alive by asking him to change sides.
@IansaurusRex Did they think of Padme (the name and character) by that time then? sure Luke ought to have a mother but I mean there was what, more than 20 years difference between the release of these movies. Which is another problem with releasing a pre-quel several years later is offently the change in ideas and designs (for example the aliens in parts 4 to 6 looked alot more hairy than in 1 to 3)
@Gnasni by the time they made episode 6 into a movie, the general story for Anakin's turn to the dark side was already written, but it was not yet official. It then became a book. All the prequels were first books before they became movies.
In my own (meaningless) opinion, it might have been better if they had continued using James Earl Jones' voice for Vader when he was unmasked (dubbing over the actor).
My stepdad said that when vader killed the emporer and saved luke he didnt turn good,he was still evil i dont know why he thinks that cause he did turn good
I hate the expanded universe. Because in the sequel-comic books Luke joins the Dark side. So this scene and Obi-Wan's death doesn't mean nothing for Luke! I just hate the expanded universe for that! Ok, the prequel-spin offs and the clone wars tv series are fine, but after the 6th episode there is nothing more for me.
Rest in peace, Anakin Skywalker. May the Force be with you.
@KCiAzN As he was carrying the Emperor, he was hit by force lightning. This damaged his life support suit, hence his raspy breathing towards the end. With his suit damaged, he could only live for a short while longer.
@beenel8 Something in me would like to think that the only reason he offed Palpatine was to fulfill the Rule of Two, and become a Sith Master - and that this entire scene was a sham in order to make Luke feel awful for getting his father killed, making *him* turn to the Dark Side.
Granted though, Luke was such a shitty Jedi that he was practically a Sith.
Despite how poorly the prequels were presented, it DID tell the story of Anakin so i appreciate them for that.. I am not a star wars geek so i didn't read up on it prior to the prequel films.
