I only ever saw this show a few times when I went to visit family in Florida, but thank goodness God gave me a good enough memory that I remember this show! That intro kicks serious ass!
I remember watching this everytime in elementary school but I can't remember if it came on during the weekend or afterscchool. If anyone was raised in the DC Metro Area during the time this show was aired, please tell me if it came on the Mon- Fri or on Sunday Mornings.
I hated this show back then because the only cartoon they used air was Tiger Sharks, and they were like a Thunder Cat imitation. My favorite were the Street Frogs and they rarely showed that..
I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS A FEW TIMES WHEN I WAS IN 2ND GRADE FROM THE 1989-1990 SCHOOL YEAR WHEN IT AIRED ON SYNDICATION ON WCGV CHANNEL 24 THEN KNOWN AS A FOX AFFILIATE BUT NOW IS AFFILIATED WITH MY NETWORK TV.
@canal23telepsicosis Oye deberias subir aqui de menos el intro en latino de este programa y del gato karateca, es una peticion de los muchos fans de estas series
Now that I recall, TigerSharks was indeed ANOTHER spiritual spinoff of Thundercats in this variety show. Same animation company, same style intro...
It all makes sense now. Thundercats was the army, Silverhawks was the air force, Tigersharks was the navy. Rankin/Bass practically had all sides covered for their Saturday morning / weekday timeslots back in the day, lol.
@Awesmic This shit use to come on every Saturday before I had to go to Judo class in the morning. Who the fuck doesn't miss being a kid in the 80's, man!
I remember back in the day living in South Florida you had three channels to watch cartoons! WBFS 33, WDZL 39 (now WSFL) in miami, and WFLX 29 in West Palm Beach. If I missed a show on one station I knew I'd might find it on the other! Damn good memories!
I'm kinda' surprised, reading these comments, that some areas aired this as a two and a half hour block instead of a half hour each weekday. Go figure.
I don't suppose you have the Tuesday and Thursday version of the intro. I remember this one was used on the Monday/Wednesday/Friday episodes. I mean, I thought this one was a little cooler, personally, but it'd be nice to see both, still.
For what it's worth--not much, admittedly--I liked the Mini Monsters the best of the four segments.
I remember when WWOR was airing this show on Saturdays. At the same time, Fox launched a Saturday night stand up comedy show "Comic Strip Live." To help curb the confusion, channel 9 advertised this cartoon as "Comic Strip Animated."
Agreed. This is back when Satuday mornings were Saturday mornings. When ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX had nothing but wall to wall cartoons from 5am to 1pm sometimes.
I watched this on WSBK Channel 38 in Boston which is now UPN. It used to be on 8:30 every morning in the Spring and Summer of 1990 I remember. I was 7 going on 8 that summer. I loved 2 of the cartoons of the 4 they used to use. Each day they used 2 cartoons. I remember the Street Frogs were one of my favs and I think the other I loved were the monsters.
nothing with more flavor for kids than generic cheesy cartoons like these...but even as cheesy as these cartoons were in the late 80's..even the worst 80's handdrawn anime beats out today's standard CG generated cartoons...which brings up the question.."does anyone DRAW cartoons anymore??..or has the inkbrush been forever replaced with a computer mouse??"....."yo dawg,..git down wit da street frogs!!"
Man LISTEN to that bass! And the Sax just makes this intro soooooo much better!! The Keyboards just put it on the map man!! C.O.M.I.C.-S.T.R.I.P-Come an take a trip on The Comic Strip!
@Kennysteele81 You remember sunday mornings. Hell yeah it came on like early and then I know down here when Sunday morning cartoons were over with and they showed the 3 Stooges and then Blondie. Man I miss those days.
It was a show that featured four cartoons. You might not see all of them but they usually played 2 of the shows. Either you were 2 young to remember or weren't born at all.
Son of a peach.. I used to try to explain to people about these cartoons and they all thought I was smoking crack. I knew it wasn't a dream! Thanks for posting!
loved these the shows that had 3-4 cartoons like this one, Saturday SuperCade, and the one that had Robotix, Inhumanoids, Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines, and Gem.
EHHHHHHHHH!!! Wrong answer! This was a Sunday morning TV show from the 80's. Back in the 80's they had the weirdest coolest shit on Sunday morning. And the comic strip was the shit. Tiger Sharks and Karate Kat are BAD ASS!!
I liked Karate Cat and Tiger sharks myself out of all of them. I was just thinking of theme song this morning. How ironic it being Sunday and all lol..Ohh to be 8 again
Wish you could watch FULL-LENGTH hi-res quality EPISODES of your favorite 80's cartoons and not just the opening credits? Now you can! Just Google: "Nostalgia Manila" and you'll find the blog. Now playing FULL-LENGTH episodes of: Thundercats, The New Adventures of Batman, Silverhawks, The Smurfs, and Classic Looney Tunes Favorites Merrie Melodies!
I used to watch this show every Sunday before doing my paper route. Ah, those were the days. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. I love the theme song and most of the shows were pretty good. Tigersharks were cool...
I know what you mean, Mitzuki. I wish they released that on DVD as well. Ah! By the way, I originally posted that video to RetroJunk.com! If anyone's interested, I have a hi-fi .mp3 of both the TigerSharks and the Comic Strip, thanks to a Lorimar Home Video of the TigerSharks (which I still have!) containing two episodes.
Man, thanks for the memories. This was the time when cartoons were at their best IMO. Hopefully someone will release a Comic Strip DVD just as they did for He-Man and Thundercats.
This was a really good show. All four shows were all different themes and had some pretty good stories, although I didn't like street frogs all that much. Tigersharks kicked ass though
i used to watch this show all the time. whenever we start talking about old cartoons, i always bring this up...and nobody knows what the hell i'm talking about!
No one ever remembers this show. I never really used to know what times anything came one when I was little, so I would just keep the TV on all day and when I heard theme songs I recognized I would run to the TV.
