  • in my opinion the stroke was right, the let! not a good decision

  • MY Dad used to coach peter nicol! XD

  • He got a stroke against him for putting his hand up! Holy cow...

  • clear stroke at start. and that would of been a hard double bounce to see . the refs wrong but u cant blame the ref for calling a let. most people would do that

  • the ball was a double and should not be a let. the first rally should not be a stroke 'cause palmer moved away.

  • palmer got screwed

  • bad quality

  • ballがよく見えてGood.

  • There are guys who like to raise hands all the time....they are shameful. They do not let play.

  • Comment removed

  • first call probably a stroke, he did run through his swing. second call.....BULLSHIT!! first the ball bounced twice so should have been palmers point, and then he raises his hand which did not affect nicol and gets a stroke. pretty soft from nicol.

  • Weird one of the commentators says towards the end of the clip that the ref gave a stroke against Palmer for putting his hand up during the rally - even though the score is unchanged and Nicol is serving from the same side, meaning it was a let ball...

  • This video is Peter Nicol, not Nicol David.

  • LOLOLOL

  • If you look closely at 1:15, the ball is approaching the wall in a downward trajectory and suddenly goes slightly up... meaning either there was a funny bounce (because of some asperity in the wall or maybe the spin of the ball), either the second bounce was in the nick. Hard to say for SURE, but I think it's not up.

  • Absolute bullshit call given how many times the ref let Nicol get away with the exact same thing with only a let. I watched that entire match. Palmer wasn't going to beat Nicol any way though, Nicol was at his best and retrieving EVERYTHING.

  • if you can't see the ball nicked you must have bad eyesight.

  • Not so sure that the ball is "coming up" from the sidewall, it does not appear to do so. Not completely clear in the slow-mo, therefore it is not at all easy to be sure in realtime from where the ref sits...so I would expect the ref to call it a Let. He is unsure. (even tho it "probably" did nick) If the ref is unsure, he calls it a Let.

  • Obviously it nicked. It wouldn't have bounced up like that if it didn't. Palmers point

  • u are assuming it nicked. but that is not clear with this resolution on this clip. possible it had massive sidespin and projected back towards Nicol so he could hit it b4 the second bounce. just sayn. might have been. not conclusive from this clip.

  • I disagree; the replay makes it conclusive. Definitely Palmer's point.

  • It appears that Nicol got the ball off of the sidewall b4 a second floor bounce. Palmer has been slow to give up the hand raising habit, and Nicol and others preyed on that for a few years.

  • Are you kidding? It bounced about a metre short of the side wall, hit the wall on the way down and was rising again coming from the wall. It couldn't have been more blatantly not-up. If I had umpires that incompetent I'd be putting my hands in the air too. (I agree with the 1st rally - Stroke).

  • lmfao

  • no brainer, 1st ball a stroke and second 2nd ball palmer's point. nicol a great guy i met him personally twice.

  • to be fair the only people that really knew it was a double bounce where nicol and palmer, so the decision is understandable, we can only tell on replay that its a double. and if you think the ball is up then a let is the correct call, you can't put your opponent off.

  • V.bad ref, its a natural reaction to put ur arm up when that happens

  • aah put it in put it out

  • I didn't see the ball bounce twice in the second rally? palmer did put his hand up and then when he won the rally Nicol like a fucking pussy called for a let cos palmer put his hand up?? looks like nicol called for a let put of desperation

  • oh snap. thats one bad ref, 2nd wsnt let or stroke.

  • iv met peter nicol

  • first one was a stroke... and second should have been palmer point, and it should of not been a let. when playing if you think ball is out and you raise your hands and there is no call you play the point out like palmer did. he won that point because nicole didnt play out the point.

  • I play squash and its really cool. First call was ok second... Not so ok. But still, that's what you get with all the pressure.

  • 1st ball is a clear stroke no doubt about it... the second not a let at all he didnt even make a try on thr ball and sure its a double bounce, I dont know how the riff missed that.

  • Nicol should have owned up to the double bounce as well, he knew it bounced twice

  • First One was a stroke, second one the point went should have gone to Palmer, because the ball bounced twice before Nicoll hit it, which would mean he lost the point. The only exception to this is we have a big fat obese bloke at our Club who is a complete arsehole (pony tail etc etc), he thinks it is ok for the ball to bounce three or four times, only when he hits it of course.

  • Good calls I reckon. First one Palmer was in Nicol's swing - simple as that. Dead on stroke.

Second one - well the rule state that STOPPING and saying "let please" are the only ways that should be officially recognised as an appeal. You can't appeal and then play on almost using the appeal as a fall-back if you lose the rally!

  • I agree with this. Just to add...palmer was in Nicol´s backswing, but Nicol was in position for playing winner - so STROKE. The other one I would give also a LET. So the ref. is OK.

  • wtf thats not the rule, ive plyed squash 4 7 yrs and i no that you can call in the middle of a rally, ive done it hundreds of times.

  • im pretty sure the first one is a stroke he got in the way of a backswing which would enable him to aim for bottom right, 2nd one i think should be palmer's point although you are not supposed to ask for stroke or lets in rallies at all let alone raising your hand he should have just played on and let the umpire decide

  • first one shouldn't have been a STROKE as well just because the decision before this, Palmer was in the same identical position and he got a LET out of it, that's y u hear the commentator also sympathizing with Palmer and the second decision is a definite NO LET, Poor refereeing

  • what a stupid referee it wasn't a let LOL

  • first one is a stroke second one wasnt a let :s

  • it was not a let !!

  • lol ref is biased. ...

  • Watch the slow-mo replay carefully. The issue should not be about "Let" (Even though the blind referees saw it that way). Palmer deserves the point because Nicol hit the ball only after the second bounce: you can see it happening in the 1:14 min mark. Strange how noone seems to notice that...

  • The second bounce looks to be of the sidewall to me... not the floor

  • By the strict rules of the game the second one was a let, although in all fairness that's where the rules are crap! Palmer hit a winner into the f/hand nick to finish the rally

  • lol that ref really hates palmer... although i thought the first one was a good call, the second was was definitly not a let.

  • Then again. Maybe it should be a let. Nicol has a valid claim that he let up on rest of rally if he saw Palmer question the double-bounce. And if Ref not sure of the double-bounce, then Let is the correct call.

  • All balls were good. First call was correct, a stroke. Second call I would say No Let....because Nicoll had already played the ball, then he decided to ask for the Let cuz he was going to lose the rally.

  • i just started playing squash last year, and i just realised, i suck!

  • Second one was definitely not a let..

  • cmon the referee is only human, you can't expect every fucking decision to be right

  • you, edizzle, have no idea , two times the ball touch the floor... and you say im big noob?

  • lets play foo

  • NO

    LET

  • quillermozap, you big noob, dont talk to me about knowing squash, you big loser

  • The second decision was a very tough call from togh-guy Jack Allen.

I don't agree on calling him the best referee in the world. He my get the toughest title from me ...

  • That was a stroke.
