That's just a theory though, a rather cynical one which severely clashes with the overall tone of the series, where love conquering the darkness is a recurring theme. Giygas is an evil being, corrupted and driven mad by his power, not a helpless baby our heroes snuff the life out of. The whole abortion theory sounds just so ridiculous to me, and it bugs me that people are getting carried away and treating it as if it was a confirmed part of the storyline, when it's really just fan speculation.

This fetus theory falls apart if anyone here actually played MOTHER. Giygas is just an alien, who loved his human surrgorate mother, he was defeated by a meleody because it reminded him of her, and ended up emotionally devasting him. Then, he tried to remove his emotions, and became that red mentally insane swirling thing. That fetus was probably included by Itoi just to add to the disturbing atmosphere of the battle, such as the rape dialouge.

a) Giygas CAN'T time travel. This scene depicts Giygas as he was in the past. This was Giygas an unspecified amount of time before the events of Mother 1 (198X), where he was raised by Maria. It could have been 20 years, or it could have been a billion years, or any amount of time in between.

b) Giygas can't give people the ability to time travel. Pokey kidnapped the Mr. saturns, Apple kid and dr. Andonuts to build him a time machine(the phase distorter) which he used to travel in time.

People keep thinking Pokey did all that on his own free will, and that he was controlling Giygas all along. That isn't true, Giygas was in control of his own power thanks to the devils machine. He was so in control that he couldn't deactivate the machine himself, so he possessed Pokey.
