Can someone give some details about the route used for the return from Horse Guards in this video? The trip across St James Park to Birdcage Walk seems clear. But I'm confused about what streets are shown just before the park scenes.
The Guard of Honour + Royal Standard + Band came back via the above route. The street liners + 2 bands came back from The Mall via the cross-park route. Thanks.
Is that the Grenadiers' "State Colour" (as opposed to Queen's or regimental) being carried at 6:34? I seem to remember reading something about William IV bestowing this item upon them.
It is-- The Queen's Company Colour, The Royal Standard of the Regiment. It is used when the Grenadiers find a guard of honour and the sovereign is present. The Queen's Company is the No 1 company of the 1st battalion.
You are referring to the Coldstream Guards State Colour. One of them was presented by King William IV, indeed.
The Queen's Company Colour, the Royal Standard of the Regiment was given by the present Queen on her first visit as Queen to the Queen's Company. It is this huge flag that will be buried with her.
William IV presented colours to all the Guards regiments. But it appears the practice of the Queen's/King's Royal Standard goes back much further: A history of the Grenadier Guards by LGen Sir F.W. Hamilton,KCB, (Vol III London 1874) describes the presentation of a new King's Company Colour by William IV on 26 June 1832-- "A similiar Royal Standard......had been presented to the Grenadier Guards in former reigns."
EAGLE SQUADRON by Kenneth Alford. It honors Americans who flew in UK Air Force before US participation.....info thanks to Robert Moorecock. As an aside, my father James Murricane had the untimely assignment traveling throughout the US for reorganising and retraining surviving B17 bomber crews.
From the first minute onwards, the Drum Major leading the Band of the Coldstream Guards. I think he is new in his role, because he wears the grenade on his scarlet apron on the wrong side and it is not fitted in the best way it could.
And about the Welsh Guards? They are perhaps specially detached from soldiering in Aldershot, to do this type of ceremonial duties.
This is wonderful. Thank you so much. I especially enjoyed the guards cutting through the park, and marching along with the bands. What a brilliant video.
I'm impressed. Not only was the horse at 00.36 in step but had also stepped off on the correct hoof.

Fascinating topic.

at 7:48 the band really picks up the beat. Whose band and what tune please?
Also, never seen the guards cut through the park before; is that new?
