Probably? Most definately. Senna's crash was similar to this, infact probably not as severe in terms of speed or ferocity, but he was killed all the same. The modern F1 car teamed with the safety cell is what saved Kubicas life. Mazing to believe he only got a broken/sprained ankle.
dboshen, why don't u try to test out the same impact without the HANS device? I just feel that some people can't grow up or are too young to understand. I feel sorry for them.

Thats kind of a stupid comment to make, because its not like he could(or any of the drivers for that matter) go out on the track without a HANS device.
Heres my attempt an an equally stupid comment:
Thank god he had wheels on his car, if he didn't have wheels, he wouldnt be here right now.
It would have been fatal just five years ago, before HANS became mandatory. I can't believe the danger of such a crash at this part of the circuit hadn't been considered.
Right on the money. If others are interested, youtube Mika Hakkinen Adelaide 1995 (pre-HANS). that's basically what happens to the head.. "...like a ragdoll..." - Jackie stewart
He suffered a light concussion, too. So happy that F1 cars nowadays are so safe. I think I saw a Toro Rosso stopping at the place where Robert hit the wall. Not sure though.
quite a crash. I remeber wathcing it live this is something you don't forget. it was like an explosion when the car hit the wall. But that is the car doing it's job. It doesn't look right but it is :P . it is taking off some of the force when he hits the wall. Glad he ok :D
You're quite right, but you should not compare those 2 crashes, because they were not at the same speed... Besides, those 2 crashes took place many years from each other, and a great deal of improvements had been made... Not to mention that Dale didn't want to use HANS, nor the "full helmets", an old school driver...
I think that had this happened as far back as 2004 rather than 2007; he would have been a dead man. As it was, I thought he was dead watching this live. It's amazing just how well engineered these cars actually are!
Jesus, Even though he didn't die in the crash, Would he have neck pains ? Look at the head shake all the way though the crash, Luckily other drivers didn't give him a whack.
Heck he got lucky that he hit the car that had crashed earlier, which stopped him going straight into the wall. Heck there were even stewards behind that crashed car as well :S
I remember watching this race live and being absolutely terrified. The severity of the crash, and the way his head just went limp at the end, brought back visions of Senna's fatal crash, and I thought it was Imola 1994 all over again.

thts such stupid logic.....hamilton blew everyone away in silverstone in the wet last year so does tht not prove his talent whilst kubica and others were flying across the grass??
failing to stop a a read light, crashing into other drivers while accelerating (e.g. alonso), forcing others off the road during a safety car lap, needing a fifth place as a present by timo glock,...
yeah hamilton must be really good. if the "champion" has to rely on others crashing out, not finishing or other drivers being penalised so that he can finish on the podium, then he must really be waaaay better then the rest...

Starting from 18th to a podium finish... i think so....Even to get to 5th was a good effort and watching him at the start go through the field just shows that he is 1st class....
considering that heidfeld and webber immediately crashed out after the start.... and overtaking formula one greats like nakajima... i´m deeply impressed...
You're pathetic... If Ham was the best so what do you tell about Glock & Trulli? Both staretd from the pit-lane... so... they were better than you're favourite? If you can't see the real reason why Hamilton was 3rd than YOU'RE STUPID - he was lucky as hell, as always. We both and the rest know that Kubica supposed to win the opening in Australia because HE WAS THE BEST. There's no other obvious thing than that. If you can't see it, you're blind...
anyways, according to an interview, i think it was stated that his front wing broke and tucked under the car so he couldnt turn. So techiically it wasnt even his fault.
By the ways, Lewis got disqualified in Australia anyways. So...
if this crash happened in the 80's or 90's he would have probably died

kubica, rosberg and especially vettel are the future of formula 1. they all have way more talent than hamilton, who is only lucky to have a fast car.
