  • When your mind is stuck in bronze Age myths you lose the ability to deal with modern reality.

  • the fact that California gave marriage to same sex couples and then TOOK IT AWAY boggles my mind. I know gay couples who are more in love than some straight couples i know, so does that mean that they don't have the right to marry the one they love? It's ridiculous, it's prejudice, and its antiquated. Marriage is for everyone who's in love.

  • I never understood why the No on 8 campaign tried to focus on Equality and Fairness, when they should have been focusing on families and just marriage in general. Any upcoming ads (assuming the Supreme Court rules incorrectly), should highlight how IMPORTANT marriage is to individuals, couples, families, AND society at large. Make it a referendum on how important MARRIAGE is, and why we as a society uphold and value it, and therefore recognize and encourage it in law (gay or straight).

  • jsawoski, I frankly don't understand how important it is for a child to have specifically a mother and a father when what is truly important is if the child has parents who love the child and give the child a nurturing home, whether it is a mother and a father, two mothers or two fathers, and if the child has a single mother or father, the child still has the chance to be loved dearly by his/her parent and raised in a nurturing home. Gender doesn't matter, but love certainly does.

  • I'm not sure how denying this couple marriage is going to change anything. Love is love. It is not like if they are not married, one of the men will suddenly fall in love with a woman and give their children a "mom". That sort of thinking is ridiculous. All denying marriage will do is put these children at a serious disadvantage should something happen to one of the fathers. It's happened before and will continue to happen. Children should be raised in wedlock by loving parents if possible.

  • I disagree with this. Allowing loving committed couples to marry reinforces what marriage has become in this society, a declaration of love, commitment, monogamy, and family.... not what it was in the past: a civil contract for the hording of fortune, the making of women the property of men, etc. where love, commitment, and happiness was not even a consideration.

  • mlewisify, I would say that a society declines in morals when hatred and ignorance over a suspect class like gay people is allowed and sometimes encouraged. The morals that I believe in include understanding, compassion and above all love, and these values do not discriminate based on any demographic, including race, gender, age and sexual orientation.

  • mlewisify, actions and attitudes from historical societies by itself is not an automatic justification towards continuation of such actions and attitudes, and I believe we have evolved over many centuries in our attitudes, including in America where we no longer practice slavery, treat women as property and ban two people of different races from marrying each other. What matters most is love towards yourself, your higher being and all of your neighbors.

  • that's so right...

  • Not in Sweeden, just to name one.

  • That they got married. What else would they tell them? Why do you think gay people can't explain things to their children?

Are you suggesting this happy family breaks up just so a woman can enter their lives when they're already perfectly happy?

  • I agree that the other ad is better but this one isn't bad either. I just think more focus on real children and what they think would be effective to counter to the "for the children" stuff the anti-gay ads have.

  • awesome commercial but the other one with the two women and teenage daughter was better. well done tho

  • Apparently not since your comment is a day old and still here.

  • The other ad is FAR more effective. Don't bother buying airtime for this one when you can run the other one. The people saying this ad is amazing are people who already support same-sex marriage. I think it's great, but I imagine if I was against same-sex marriage, this ad would do little to sway me. You should do more ads with the children of these families speaking.

  • I agree completely. You should get as many children as possible (of gay parents) in your ads, especially since tons of the yes on 8 ads have 'confused children' in them. we need to show the world that gay marriage will NOT affect our children in any negetive way.

  • hell yea! this is great!

  • Rock on!

  • Californians like underdogs. We need to show the sufferings gays have been through. Show Matthew Shepard

  • I wish we had seen real stories like these during the lead up to the Prop. 8 vote but I'm glad there is finally a message and tone that is genuine to the implications of inequality. I'm glad to know that people who voted for Prop. 8 now have a chance to get to know the families they were voting against.

  • AMAZING, AMAZING, AD. I had tears!

I think this is a very very effective AD!

    Way to go guys!

  • I agree that this ad isn't as effective as the other ad. People don't relate to 'we deserve', they relate to feelings.

  • AWESOME!

  • Thank you Equality California for showing gay families directly on the camera and giving California a real image of what it means to be gay. Bravo!!

  • Just to restate this for all you pretend Christians who are spreading hate. People are born Gay and we deserve as much rights as you!

  • That's my cousin and my cousin-in-law! Love you both no matter what other people say!

  • That's nice. I don't have a problem with this family or anything they are saying. It just seems like whoever edited the commercial didn't really make a point--it doesn't really go anywhere.

  • Well thanks for not bring a jerk.

  • Well, no offense, but this one is edited to seem like, "I should have it because I want it," and the other one is more like, "Why wouldn't they have it?" This one doesnt' really make any point. The ladies one makes the point.

  • Finally, good ads on the gay side.

  • Well done! Great ad!

  • Finally! No more hiding out. Finally we put ourselves out front. Good job.

  • agree with BakoBrett so why run with your weaker video when you have a good one

  • Good video, but like the prior commentor, I feel that the Frances & Cynthia video was much more impactful. Having the testimony from the child was touching.

  • I know you don't want it, but gonna give my opinion. Frances & Cynthia video helps your cause, this one does not. An older child talking in reflection of her upbringing makes sense - showing two toddler boys crawling over two gay men is going to undermine your message to the very people who's minds you are hoping to change. THOSE people aren't ready for that yet - play it cool and don't go so far that you hurt your message. Just letting you know. Play it smarter.

  • "...showing two toddler boys crawling over two gay men..."

How perverse of you to reduce the relationship of those boys with their fathers to something so vile.

Whether "those people" are ready for it or not, this ad is an accurate representation of a real family. They may not be ready for it, but that's tough-- because these beautiful people are part of the reality of now.

This family shouldn't have to hide because you or anyone else thinks they're inconvenient.

  • She is right on this one. The ad does not accomplish what it sets out to do. They should run the other ad.

  • if gay dads with young kids makes YOU think of pedophilia, then you're the one with the problem

  • GodLovesSarahPalin, if showing two toddler boys "crawling over two gay men" (I see it as nurtured by their parents) undermines the message of the universality of love to certain people whose minds we hope to change, then those minds are shockingly ignorant and incredibly perverse, and it is up to us to stand up in confidence against such disgust and show that we will not be pushed around, so as to exemplify the dignity and respect that everyone deserves.

  • Now THIS is the type of ads you should have ran during the election.
