NOKIA SUCKS. After the N97 fiasco I will never buy another Nokia. Symbian is just crap & the phone had no GPU, the OS was so poorly written that the Browser kept locking up & then there was the whole issue with signing apps. For the typing on the N8, can't you turn it so it's landscape and then have the qwerty ... Besides, the galaxy is wider than the N8 therefore more capability to fit the qwerty in and even then the qwerty looks cramped.
Why do people think that android is better than symbian? Android doesn't have video and photo editors even for download, it doesn't have voice commamands, FM transmitter, better cameras than on Nokia n8, remote control like for Nokia N8. Nokia N8 has a full flash support but samsung galaxy s on android 2.1 doesn't have it and Samsung doesn't record phone calls even if install a phone call recorder. Just it doesn't support. I had Samsung I8910 and now I know that all Samsung phones don't have it.

i used to be a hardcore symbian/nokia user(my last was n82 and it was great)... symbian used to be great but it is so outdated now... Im glad i've jump over to android. NOw i can truly feel how is it like to have a true SMARTPHONE that's smart. i' have 200+ apps on my android that has custom rom and the experience is great. does not lag at all. Sorry Symbian, I love nokia but symbian has to go...

I have been a big Nokia Fan until I bought the N8 Mistake. He is right in most of his comments about the Nokia n8. I never used Android before so I cannot comment about that. Besides, Symbian ^3 is new and N8 is used as a testing ground with our money.

some of your arguments is just not valid. for example, the gmail. u r saying that the galaxy show more emails and has more space. samsung's screen is bigger than nokia's, of course it would show more if both were to use same size of fonts. for nokia's screen size, if it were to show 10 emails .... the fonts would have to be smaller, then you would probably complain nokia's display is too small and you couldn't read.

Anyway, I'm still gathering money for my N8, I've had 4 Symbian devices (3650,6600,N95,N97 Mini) and I liked all. I also liked the huge bright screen of the Galaxy S, but I just can't get on with Android :(
@LeBearUK So the N8 with its inferior processor, inferior screen (amoled < Super amoled), low RAM, unremovable battery and average GPU would be the best phone with android? I can think of a pretty big list of android phones that would be better. Even the iphone 4 is. Take away that camera and the N8 has nothing period.

conclusion--nokia n8 doesn't work with android fanboys like you, engadget works absolutely fine on my n8, no lag whatsoever with 11 apps in the background, including maps, camera, browser and nfs shift.. it does come with news apps.. and how much time does it take to download a few apps and make ur phone customizable? ur a android ass licker !

i ejoy my n8. Just about to watch a HD movie i downloaded with it, on my 40" HD TV using the HDMI port. I will ejoy the great sound quality with doby digital. This was written using a bluetooth mouse and keyboard connected to my phone. Later I will play some HD games on my tv. I was able to use GPS without connecting to the internet when i drove home though an area with no service. It makes me happy to use my phone knowing that I spent much less and got much more.
Well I know that IOS 4 & Android is Much better Than Symbian^3. but what happened in N8 web browser is happens to any new out of the box phone since it's your " Fresh start" ,because even the older N97 & XM5800 scrolls well as a Heavy user !! (that's ME)

I was sure my next smartphone was gonna be a N8 but after trying out the Galaxy S on a Samsung display at a mall, I just couldn't help getting in love with it. I ordered Galaxy S yesterday. And it is fine if you just jump at nokia N8 from some old not so smart device. It was also that fine with N97, 5800... You should have turned the flash off from the N8. Android doesnt show flash contents so why should those phones be compared with different setups?

Engadget loads perfectly on my Nokia E7 (Same OS), I can change font size if I want to (but I can read the font just fine) and I have swype text input.
But as I've told others, Symbian is not for everyone. iOS and Android enable those who struggle with 'subfolders' to use smartphones :)

@MrWhatman2010 Yeah, camera is obvious...I did mention the N8 has an awesome camera. The camera of the Galaxy S is not poor, is just fine, nothing surprising, yet nothing bad. Battery life, same on both phones.... Yeah, N8 doesn't have that of a great battery life. And no, the Galaxy S doesn't lag.. Did you see how fast it responded on the video?

@iLYK2PWN well I had a samsung galaxy s and it was lagging like hell. I had to got rid of it because it was driving me crazy! I bought the desire hd instead and it´s like 1000 times better! no laggs at all.
You should have went to the regular Google site on the N8. You loaded the mobile version. I have a Nokia C6 and I go to the regular Google site and I have suggestions in the browser.

Mine Symbian device does that too, I know its not a computer but for a little use, my Symbian can't handle heavy sites or ya can use a little more heavy use, even without multi task, applications get closed by themselves, even opera mini, so why should I go for a new Symbian touch device, I like BADA by Samsung which is really worth, I'll probably go for Samsung wave 2 after its release
@Rayz093 I used: N93, N85 8GB, N82, N96, N85, so I am pretty used to T9. When I got an E71 I decided I wouldn't get a smartphone without a full keyboard anymore, full keyboard works much better. I type on two languages, so T9 can become very unpractical
I've used the iphone 4 nokia n8 and the galaxy s. I can tell u from experience the n8 is a flop, it's no where near the majority of smart phones out there such as HTC, Apple, Samsung, Motorola etc.
The Galaxy S is a wonderful phone, works perfect out of the box, no faults and just plain smooth and beautiful.
Besides the 12mp camera on the n8 its just terrible, basic tasks dont work and it doesn't respond. Why be forced 2 like a phone that doesnt work?

Bad for Symbian, it's got tons of functions but the UI is terrible, slow, ugly, inconsistent. The keyboard opens up in it's own window, covering the original input area.
And while Android is smooth, it does not have a GPU acceleration, it runs on a single CPU, 3.0 is supposed to bring the GPU acceleration and utilize the graphics chip in a phone to handle the UI, plus the cpus themselves are moving to dual core setup. So imagine how smooth a gpu accelerated dual core Android is going to be.
so every phones have to be more than 4 inches? what about female consumer? 4 inches is a bit to huge for them? 3.5 inches is just nice to have. i can simply agree what you have said at the beginning, but think about what consumer needs and not to say which size of screen is better. not everyone like you... like huge huge huge thingy.

Can you Imagine our delight when Nokia finally admitted the device was a failure. I have both phones with me most of the time, but end up playing on the moto droid 3 and use nokia as a phone.
N8 has much better reception than my Moto Droid 3 too.
(In some cases, Moto Droid 3 is unusable in my basement, but my Nokia N8 works perfectly fine.)

I have Moto Droid 3 (Android 2.3.6) and Nokia N8 (Symbian Belle)
Android wins in terms of functionality and apps availability.
But as a phone, N8 wins, is has much longer standby time and take time
and N8 browser is pretty okay, not as good as Android stock browser, but it works.

i used to be a hardcore symbian/nokia user(my last was n82 and it was great)... symbian used to be great but it is so outdated now... Im glad i've jump over to android. NOw i can truly feel how is it like to have a true SMARTPHONE that's smart. i' have 200+ apps on my android that has custom rom and the experience is great. does not lag at all. Sorry Symbian, I love nokia but symbian has to go...

I have been a big Nokia Fan until I bought the N8 Mistake. He is right in most of his comments about the Nokia n8. I never used Android before so I cannot comment about that. Besides, Symbian ^3 is new and N8 is used as a testing ground with our money.

some of your arguments is just not valid. for example, the gmail. u r saying that the galaxy show more emails and has more space. samsung's screen is bigger than nokia's, of course it would show more if both were to use same size of fonts. for nokia's screen size, if it were to show 10 emails .... the fonts would have to be smaller, then you would probably complain nokia's display is too small and you couldn't read.
i know n8 is not a perfect phone, but do you really have to?

I can think of a pretty big list of android phones that would be better. Even the iphone 4 is. Take away that camera and the N8 has nothing period.

conclusion--nokia n8 doesn't work with android fanboys like you, engadget works absolutely fine on my n8, no lag whatsoever with 11 apps in the background, including maps, camera, browser and nfs shift.. it does come with news apps.. and how much time does it take to download a few apps and make ur phone customizable? ur a android ass licker !

i ejoy my n8. Just about to watch a HD movie i downloaded with it, on my 40" HD TV using the HDMI port. I will ejoy the great sound quality with doby digital. This was written using a bluetooth mouse and keyboard connected to my phone. Later I will play some HD games on my tv. I was able to use GPS without connecting to the internet when i drove home though an area with no service. It makes me happy to use my phone knowing that I spent much less and got much more.

Well I know that IOS 4 & Android is Much better Than Symbian^3. but what happened in N8 web browser is happens to any new out of the box phone since it's your " Fresh start" ,because even the older N97 & XM5800 scrolls well as a Heavy user !! (that's ME)
just setup your 3G connectivity or Fast WiFi and everything will be good (^_^)

I was sure my next smartphone was gonna be a N8 but after trying out the Galaxy S on a Samsung display at a mall, I just couldn't help getting in love with it. I ordered Galaxy S yesterday. I am a Nokia fan but I was expecting more from Symbian 3, so sorry Nokia you're not getting my money this time.

Sadly, all Nokia devices since the 5800, including, came to life feel like are 3 years old when compared to other phones. The higher class of the device, the more bad feeings you get. And it is fine if you just jump at nokia N8 from some old not so smart device. It was also that fine with N97, 5800... But the thruth is simple, yet obvious in this comparsion hete - Nokia's flagships are as far behind HTC, Samnsug & Moto, as they can get.
This changed abit when N900 was introduced. Back 2 Fail...

You should have turned the flash off from the N8. Android doesnt show flash contents so why should those phones be compared with different setups?
And a new browser is coming to N8, but still you are right about that that android works better than symbian, because the apps are more integreded and more consistent.

one thing N8 fans don't get , is that once you use a modern O.S like Android or the iPhone O.S, using symbian feels like using windows 98, it's clunky and outdated, Nokia better pin their hopes on Meego, Symbian just doesn't cut it anymore.

Engadget loads perfectly on my Nokia E7 (Same OS), I can change font size if I want to (but I can read the font just fine) and I have swype text input.
But as I've told others, Symbian is not for everyone. iOS and Android enable those who struggle with 'subfolders' to use smartphones :)

come on. regarding the fonts. what resolution and screen size you are running on that captivate. can your captivate even do real multitasking where the app is actually running on the background. the email client show lesser email because THERE IS A DATE SORTING ON THAT.

@MrWhatman2010 Yeah, camera is obvious...I did mention the N8 has an awesome camera. The camera of the Galaxy S is not poor, is just fine, nothing surprising, yet nothing bad. Battery life, same on both phones.... Yeah, N8 doesn't have that of a great battery life. And no, the Galaxy S doesn't lag.. Did you see how fast it responded on the video?

@MrWhatman2010 wat are u talking about the galaxy s lags? if u had a htc desire hd then u can say it lags but the n8 is always fucking laggy even in the home screen :p and plus, if you root it and run an app called OCLF it goes, type it in on youtube if you dont believe me, with a lag fix app the galaxy s blows any phoone, im not a fanboy, i prefer HTCs but u cant complain of lag on SGS when the N8 is just AS BAD if not worse

Mine Symbian device does that too, I know its not a computer but for a little use, my Symbian can't handle heavy sites or ya can use a little more heavy use, even without multi task, applications get closed by themselves, even opera mini, so why should I go for a new Symbian touch device, I like BADA by Samsung which is really worth, I'll probably go for Samsung wave 2 after its release

@Rayz093 I used: N93, N85 8GB, N82, N96, N85, so I am pretty used to T9. When I got an E71 I decided I wouldn't get a smartphone without a full keyboard anymore, full keyboard works much better. I type on two languages, so T9 can become very unpractical

I've used the iphone 4 nokia n8 and the galaxy s. I can tell u from experience the n8 is a flop, it's no where near the majority of smart phones out there such as HTC, Apple, Samsung, Motorola etc.
The Galaxy S is a wonderful phone, works perfect out of the box, no faults and just plain smooth and beautiful.
Besides the 12mp camera on the n8 its just terrible, basic tasks dont work and it doesn't respond. Why be forced 2 like a phone that doesnt work?

Poor review. Underestimated Symbian because of eye-candy UI of Android.
I am also a Galaxy S user before, but I am planning to shift to N8 because of largeness of Galaxy S even if it is thin, It easily slips from my hand.
And also, N8 is not entirely positioned as high-end smartphone, so I am glad that most of the high-end handsets are being compared to N8 :D

Bad for Symbian, it's got tons of functions but the UI is terrible, slow, ugly, inconsistent. The keyboard opens up in it's own window, covering the original input area.
And while Android is smooth, it does not have a GPU acceleration, it runs on a single CPU, 3.0 is supposed to bring the GPU acceleration and utilize the graphics chip in a phone to handle the UI, plus the cpus themselves are moving to dual core setup. So imagine how smooth a gpu accelerated dual core Android is going to be.
