  • Is it loud?

  • Hi Snaskc: I bought it on Ebay, used for $149. The owner had done the upgrades. He bought a mod kit, which I couldn't get him to give me the specifics on. He changed the speaker to a Weber Signature series and put five new tone capacitors in it that warmed it up and provided more head room. The distortion wasn't that great, but does have a nice clean Fender tone-- Wow what a great amp in a small package. The replacement speaker is a 6 1/2 inch not an eight inch as some do use. Thanks again!

  • @danstune Wow sounds like a great deal, post up a vid, would love to hear it. cheers

  • Super sweet! Excellent playing!

  • @ckeme77 Thanks man

  • Can you hear this another room or is this power pretty much bedroom level even when your blasting?

  • @Trakstar84 It can be pretty loud if you have an EQ and overdrive pedal. But it's a great amp for a small room.

  • about time someone just stopped talking and played!

  • @22hamilt Agreed far to much BS talk on utube

  • After hearing you, I bought a mint Champion 600 with an upgraded speaker (the original will be sent with the amp, too) and it had the capacitors replaced. I will let you know how it sounds. I got it for $149 including shipping and no tax. Thanks again for your touch on the frets!!

  • @danstune wow great deal, well done and thanks.

  • @danstune Where'd you buy it to be able to "upgrade" it?

Also what speaker did you put in?

How do the capacitors affect the tone? Do they effect the process of the travel of sound??

    Thanks!

  • You brought out the best in this amp with your talented playing! Thanks for the demo!

  • @danstune No thank you for the kind words

  • Very good! Sound great!

  • You sound great here! You should keep that amp too. My only concern also is the small speaker. Wish this amp had a plug in for an extension cabinet.

  • @jjneet Thanks, the amp went ages ago,and you can connect to a cab,the speaker is just on a jack plug,I played this through a marshall 4x12 cab with greenbacks, sounded ok,but still lacked alot.

  • This sounds so awesome. I'm looking for a practice amp. I love the sound, but I'm worried about 6" speaker. I also have no idea how would it sound with a guitar like Jackson DXMG with high-signal pickups.

  • @volvful Thanks,Yeah the speaker farts a bit when cranked and does sound a bit boxey,IMHO it's not for high gain stuff, but it's a good little valve amp for the money.

  • @snaskc I understand it's not for high gain. I'd like to play mostly clean/crunchy stuff. The problem I see is my guitar. Jackson DXMG isn't a guitar for that kind of music. I know you can get amazing sound from this amp with a Fender of some kind, but what about more "aggresive" guitars with high signal humbuckers? Have you tried it?

  • @volvful I dont see a problem with active pickups,

  • great playing- wonderful touch and tone in your fingers!

  • @Periphery100 Thanks man.

  • @itsmarshmallowz

It's on 8, this is dirty.

  • Excellent performance!

  • @Reih42 Thanks!

  • One thing about this amp is that it lacks reverb. The dry sound tends to magnify mistakes and sloppy playing. I find myself having to be much more precise with my fingerings with this amp than I do with my AC15, which allows me to hide behind a cavernous reverb tank.

That said, your playing is beautiful.... you're squeezing every last drop of smooth out of this amp!

  • @mobo215 wow thank you man,very kind.

  • wow ... wooaw ... just ... wow

  • @jiaixxx Really? thanks man

  • cool lil amp. thx for sharing

  • i feel you man... nice demo!

  • @godkizzzz Thanks man

  • great student amp very cool boxy

  • I just bought this amp and i LOVE it! Great demo man!

  • Great guitar work... great blues feel! Could you demo this with a Gibson too?

  • @MarshallAmpMan Thanks man but sold this amp.

  • i got one, sounds amazing for the price, but you must change shitty stock tubes to get the real tone!

  • @Frankonino what tubes do you recommend for best clean bluesy/funk tones?

  • @jgk381 I like Ruby 12ax7.

  • Apparently these amps are only 5 watts... BULLSHIT! It sounds so nice and loud and the clean channel is awesome! :D Great playing man.

  • @navboi12 I've seen someone gig with the fender 57 handwired amp and thats only 12 watts! thanks man

  • @snaskc The Beatles and The Who and lots of other people used AC15s. Watts don't matter much, it's the speaker that decides how loud it is. You could have a 50 watt Marshall and if you put it through a 6 inch speaker it's going to be about as loud as a tweed Deluxe, maybe even quieter. A Champ through 2 Marshall 4x12 cabs is going to be as loud as the Marshall on about 4 or 5. That's AC/DC volume!

  • @navboi12 there is more to an amp's volume than its wattage rating, and most tube amps are rated at their clean volume. The speaker can make an enormous difference, and whether it's true or not, people seem to have reached a consensus that tube watts are louder than their equivalent solid state watts.

  • @antihax91 Cheers for that :L

  • @navboi12 In Finland is used to talk about "putkiteho" which translates "tube watts". It's the way how tubeamp operates. It sound as "clean sound" far beyond the point that engineer marks as "max power", because tubes go into saturation so softly, you could double power figures and still say you are using clean sound. However that would show as "engineer-unacceptable" distortion on oscilloscope. Tubes produce "even" harmonic sound components when transistors mostly "unmusical odd-harmonics".

  • @VinylUndergr0und thanks man,kind words

  • i can hear a little buddy guy blues here..nice

  • @redchilifan Only a little? damn! I was going for my full on BG impression, only kidding ,thanks for the kind words.

  • Sounds awesome.

  • Thanks man.

  • I probably paid the going rate £161 but it's got the work done on it. They are a usable amp because most valve jobbies at small gigs can't be pushed hard enough to get the tone anyway and i can use it in my studio. I will probably sell my Mesa Boogie.

  • Hiya Steve, Sounds lovely here, i know a lot of it is in your fingers and that georgeous sounding guitar of yours. I've just bought one of these off flea bay. Been upgraded point to point wiring and a 8" Jenson Alnico speaker . I'm gonna gig it and mic it through the P.A. I'm hoping the old slide will sing through this good luck pal catch you soon.

  • Good stuff mate, should sound better than this one,the speaker was the weak point, and the cheap chinese tubes fender use,not good.Did you get a good deal?

  • hi snaskc! just wondering... which guitar do you used on this demo? :)

  • buddy guy usa sig with cs 69 pups.thanks

  • @snaskc

Can I plug this into a cab?

  • @ChickenFaeces Of course you can, think it runs at 4 ohms (dont have the amp anymore so trying to remember) I had mine through a 4x12 closed cab with heratige greenbacks sounded superb!

  • @snaskc

Could I get it loud enough to hear over the drummer?

  • @ChickenFaeces no way man, look somewhere else for that.

  • @itsmarshmallowz Go buy your own and play it dirty as you like

  • That is a beautiful glassy tone!

  • Boy, that sounds nice and sweet! I could listen to this all day long. I'll bet its a perfect poarch amp!

  • Thanks Bob,sold this amp a while back.Good fun amp though.

  • So what's your opinion on this amp? thinking about getting it myself. I was looking at the 57 version but people keep saying it's not worth the 1k...

  • Great amp for the money this one,but has its limits has you would expect. If you got the 1k to spend a 18w-22w boutique amp would do the whole deal.

  • i actually bought this amp - one main reason was this video, cheers, i havent regretted it and will be uploading my own review soon

  • Wow really? Hope you enjoy it,and send me your vid when you do it.All the best.

  • Tell me more

  • hey snaskc. I really love your tone and playing. you said sometime ago that you sold the champ.

Can I ask what do you bought next?

Cheers man. Keep making music :)

  • Thanks for the kind words my friend,i bought the epiphone valve snr head, becuase its 18 watts and i have a great 2x12 cab with celestion blue speakers, theres a few vids of the snr head on my page.

  • Comment removed

  • Nice video. But you sold that great little amp?????

  • Nice playin thanks for the demo

  • Thanks

  • great tone, great video dude! thats what a demo should be like :) no tech talk, the amp speaks for itself...

  • Thanks man,sold this one,nice little amp.

  • beautiful man. inspiring.

  • Thanks man

  • Hi or Low?

  • Now someone tell me, that if i own a Fender Frontman 65R amp, should i buy one of these? I'm gettin' pretty tired of the sound of my Frontman... Or should i keep savin' money for a bigger tube amp?

  • @Juicefani11 I think the most relevant answer is this: Try one, and if it makes you excited to play for hours then you should get one, unless you need a tube amp that's loud enough to play with a band without running through a PA.

  • @robertmessore Well... It is just important to get a nice sound. I'm (luckily) not in a band yet. XD

  • nice playing. thanks for the demo.

  • Thanks no probs

  • Perhaps I missed it, but what is the guitar you are using and the settings on it and strings. Thanks for taking the time to do the demo and very nice tone.

  • Thanks,US Buddy Guy sig strat with CS 69's,ernie ball 11's,all guitar knobs on 10.

  • Nice chops dude!

  • Thanks man

  • excellent-we want more

  • Thanks

  • is this a loud amp or not??

  • id swear this was early buddy guy playing..?

  • Thanks man,that's what I was aiming for,though I know I couldn't lace the great mans boots.

  • классно !!!!!!!)))))

  • Does this amp respond well to pedals? I want a good clean sound like this, but would also be running a fulltone OCD on it when I want to kick in some serious crunch...

  • It like's chorus and vibe's etc they sound nice, but drive pedals sound like shit. The whole point of this little amp is to drive it and get natural gain/drive real tube stuff like the old days.If you want high gain crunch look somewhere else.

  • @snaskc- I think I would prefer the epiphone valve junior, it can get clean tones as well, but reacts favorably to distortion. And I'm not looking for high gain, just a mix of subtle breakup and classic marshal crunch. "The old days" weren't just full of smooth breakup remember, they were also full of roaring stacks!

  • Go for the senior,Check out my vids with the senior head.

  • It sounds like it would be incredible in the studio for that type of tone.

  • Yeah guess so

  • I have a hunch that this little guy will soon be discontinued. Don't quote me on that but when you see it going for like five six hundred on ebay in a year or so, don't be surprised. Thus far this model has been a huge success but the low price tag along with the fact that it is made in China will have a lot of players taking this amp for granted and not treating it nicely. If i had sum $ i'd even get one of these and just leave it alone in its box and throw it in the closet for a few years.

  • @DuscaManolescu

    You were right,

it has recently been discontinued. At least it is in my country.

    I'm lucky to have one.

It's a great amp, that is: good tubes, wiring and circuitry, but a horrible speaker.

If I connect it to my 212 peavey blue marvels, it sounds like a friggin boutique amp

  • @Guitarvirtuoso666

Yikes! Sucks being right sometimes. I'm moving to Europe in less than a week, and I'm bringing mine with me but before I go, I'll make sure to order up a brand new one and have my mom keep it in a box for me. So, I guess we'll be neighbors, sort of. I'll be in Romania but I have some cousins in Antwerp so don't be surprised if you hear me ringing your door bell sometime.

  • great sound man! after this video I had to buy one for my strat :)

    Great licks!

  • Thanks man, sold this little amp now, enjoy yours though.

  • Sweet playing, man!!! Love the tones out of the amp as well.

  • Thanks man, dont have this amp anymore, great amp though.

  • is this his cover of "good morning little schoolgirl"?

  • Assuming you're a begginer, or no less someone who wants a blues tone... a one trick pony is worth it, imho. It's not exactly an arm and a leg, and it doesn't take up that much space. Who can say no to tube distortion and blues?

  • Great Tone !!!! Really nice playing too !

  • Thank you

  • I can tell you like Buddy Guy. Awesome!! Thought about gettin one of these to practice. I miss the sound of my Bugera 6260 at home.

  • hello

    sounds great!

whats your opinion? is it a must buy?

I have already a fender FM65R but i think its to loud to play inside the house..

so this could be a good alternative?

    Ths!!

    Karl

    PS. Well played!!!

  • Hi Karl, not a must buy by any means, but a nice little 5 watter,no good with drive pedals,ok with reverb, delay, chorus etc speaker upgrade is recomended. Thanks

  • Oh! did I mentionyoure a great Blues player?

  • Thanks man.

  • this has made my mind up. orange tiny terror or fender champ 600.... the Fender, georgious sound. Like a Marshal without the heavy Low End.

  • I,ve never heard the tiny terror, and i imagine its more bucks, but the champ is sort of a one trick pony so make sure you make the right choice.thanks man

  • What guitar are you using? sounds like a strat but I could be wrong.

  • it's a buddy guy strat.

  • The mini-sculptures and telephone are very nice additions here. Your playing is also patient and peaceful. That little Fender amp is nothing to scoff at either.

  • i've tested one of these and the speaker really farts at more than about 6-7 but other than that, it sounds really sweet

  • nice buddy guy tone

  • sounds like john lee hooker. great playing dude

  • Thanks man

  • this would sound sexy with my strat, a micro amp pedal

  • loud enough to play with a drummer and a singing girl ? in a "soft" style ...

  • Kicks ass your playing reminds me of Jimi Hendrix for the blues cd they made a few years back...great pure blues sound in the bedroom to play along to the stereo in the room at moderate volume..dont let this little guy fool you its got volume for its size

  • Thanks man

  • one question, if i ran a fuzz pedal or a BOSS DS-1 through this would it get a good classic rock/grunge sound?

  • Not really. I just bought one a few days ago and tried a few of my pedals with it and it's really not designed for too much gain. The best gain on this amp is it's own natural breakup around the 9-12 volume setting. Other than that you might be dissappointed. What you are hearing on this video is what this amp is designed for...which is super clean, warm, traditional Fender tube tone!

  • a Schecter running through a metal pedal and into this... can someone tell me if that will sound good?

  • I also got one a few days ago and agree... Small speakers tend to fart with gain. Don't buy this amp if you want high gain. Even with my Guv'Nor pedal set at low gain the sound gets farty.

  • will it be loud for my bedroom?

  • Nice man!!!!

Did you do any mod on your champ!

    sounds great!

  • Thanks,no mods straight out of the box.

  • is that blues pentatonic?

  • Can you get decent volume for small room in clean on it?

  • not really. has to be a pretty small room though.

  • great playing! can anyone tell if you can do anything else than blues like hendrix or over drive sound>

  • Is this with the stock tubes?

  • Sloveck

  • love that amp!

  • you play nice man, loved it

  • Thanks man

  • Great tone, I'm buying one today.

  • Thanks and have fun!

  • can you get mod kits for this and where?

  • mercury magnetics makes one

  • Awesome tone man, I've just ordered one of these bad boys. Nice playing man.

  • Thanks man

  • Awesome playing, your video made me want to go check one of these out and see how they perform with my tele!

By the way, i recognise what you are playing from a Buddy Guy instructional video. Is this one of his songs? if so, what's the name of it?

    Thanks!

    Great playing!

  • Thanks,just improvising dude,but your right,so i'll take that as a compliment,cheers

  • So this amp doesn't really get into overdrive? All I have seen are always clean sounding. I have heard the Epiphone Valve Jr with overdrive though. Is this correct? Thanks

  • Sounds way better clean, crank it up and you get a nice natural drive but the speaker starts to struggle,i play mine through a 4x12 cab which sounds nice.

  • What guitar are you using?

  • USA buddy guy sig but with CS 69 pups.

  • more suitable for a telecaster or a danelectro.

  • 1:52 - 1:59 wow that lick is amazing i wish i could learn it

  • It's not too hard!:P

Try listening by ear and figuring it out!:)

Or search for some blues licks lessons..

I use these kind of licks in my videos!

  • sounds like buddy guy! very nice

  • Love Buddy! so that means alot.thanks man!

  • definately a hint of buddy in there not just style wise but tone wise also i dig it

  • Thanks man,

  • sounds great, the playing and the amp as well. Do you remember the volume setting you used?

  • Thanks man,volume was set at 8.

  • Any kind of compression?

  • No,just the amp.

  • This is a maple neck strat with cs 69's(check my other vids its the white strat) on the neck/middle position....thanks

  • what kind of strat is that? is it maple or rosewood fingerboard? I have a maple neck 2008 amer. strat and I can't seem to get that kind of tone.

  • Hi ya,I suppose this is new. Its got a lovely sound.

Any humming or hissing problems with it?

  • yeah well worth the money,no noise probs with just the amp,no good with an overdrive pedal though............take care

  • Great playing man, I'm also thinking of getting one just wondering if you have tried a tube screamer through one?
