It certainly had the chart success of contemporary pop, but there was already the feeling that this was a very SIGNIFICANT song. It felt like art and it felt timeless (even when it had just come out). It was and still is an ANTHEM...and it was an athem right out of the gate. ----i understand what you are saying though.
