I have learned to catch myself doing that and am learning to stop and remember I have "kidnapped" someone who is most likely unaware of me at the moment. If I am going to do this at least charge them for rent for space in my mind.

Some people do achieve enlightenment on these substances, but Jim Carrey was simply searching, and he found. And Carrey never mentions DMT in that video.

The thing about that though is you can't dwell on those things because you'll only make yourself feel worse and I think that is the main thing Jim is saying here. @isaq1961 I don't think a single book will be able to truly describe and define something that needs to be experienced on a profound level and I think spiritual practice is also key to purifying consciousness and surrendering to the greater Self/Being. I have also read those authors and I would recommend reading the books of David R. Hawkins, Nisargadatta Maharaj, and Swami Sivananda. I also suggest the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads.

@mikeleza I can only speak from my own experience, but Tolle's message has definitely helped me. Am I happy all the time? No. Do I think the world is perfect? Far from it. But there are times when I realize I am lost in my own mind and realize the emotions it brings over my body. Just being aware of this can snap you out of your mind and bring you consciously to the present. Tolle is an enlightened Buddha in a Western world. Have you read The Power of Now? It can truly simplify the mind

People need to stop reading crap. It would be nice if the multitude would at least appreciate Stoic philosophy (Seneca, Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius). Philosophy in general isn't for the masses, but the Stoics give easily accessible texts.

@isaq1961 I don't think a single book will be able to truly describe and define something that needs to be experienced on a profound level and I think spiritual practice is also key to purifying consciousness and surrendering to the greater Self/Being. I have also read those authors and I would recommend reading the books of David R. Hawkins, Nisargadatta Maharaj, and Swami Sivananda. I also suggest the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads.

OK then, lets all read into this as much as possible and take as much negative and resenement as we can.........WTF, grow up! Seriously. I dont care if its Jim, a co worker, or the bum on the corner. The guy has had a profound evolution in his ways and has welcomed the opportunity to be closer to the truth and him self in the process. Who the F*&K are we to judge. Honostly, I thought we were adults here.....

@rcacad it's usually adults that react like this; children are too realistic and logical usually to react the way you are complaining about, in my experiences. Basically, the way you are seeming to want for adults to act is like is more like children than adults. yes, they we are adults here. which is probably why they are upsetting you... if they acted like children, they would probably see it for what it is, realistically.

Jim Carrey needs Jesus is in his life not Echart Tollie. Only Jesus can bring true peace to ones life because he loves us that much. Tollie is a liar, read the Bible Jim and and ask Jesus into your life and it will change.

@beatleman69 Let people live for themselves. If you want to follow Christ thats wonderful, but calling Tolle a liar is unnecessary. Were are all made in the image and likeness of the Creator and as there are many different faces of people there are pathways to God. To discourage such an exploration towards feeling peaceful is silly.
I commend people for seeking a positive change.

@premalanmusic Tollie teaches new age pholosophy, he doesn't even know what happens after death, I saw that on youtube myself. Jesus is the only way to heaven John 14:6 "I Am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me". In my opinion why for instants entertainers follow cults is because they can still live anyway they want to, if they accept Christ as their personal Savior then they'll stop living in sin. Tollie is leading people to hell.

and as for jim who should read the bible according to you - maybe you're the one who should do some reading first, so that one day you can move past your ignorant, superficial, mythical understanding of spirituality.

ok time for some criticism : if what makes us free is what we are in the present time, how does a person who had a family before going to jail feel like ? when those memories are the only things he uses to keep his sanity alive ?

@kingspider1000 if you had ever read any material from tolle, you'd know that he is not preaching new age philosophy at all. his teaching is not about glorifying the ego - on the contrary: it is about the fading away of the egoic structure. you might want to read one of his books in its entirety, or watch one of his talks, and i'm sure you'll reconsider.

the reason that i said what i said was the similarity in tolles work with the new agers. its all about finding a way to reach bliss without GOD realization.
see, its problematic to say that living in the moment solves problems, because who we are is what weve also experienced in the past and hwat we want in the future. denying the past events means denying our own lives. what kind of bliss comes after denying ones own identity forged thru expereince ?

@kingspider1000 i understand where you're coming from. however again his teachings are not about reaching bliss without god realization. in fact, ultimately it is about realising what "god" truly is. and no, according to tolle or other spiritual teachings we are _not_ what we've experienced in the past and we are _not_ what we want in the future. that is what the egoic self is, but it is not what you truly are. what you are is not what you think you are at all.

@treyisdaman3 If real truth and happiness only comes from within then why are so many people confused and unhappy even after getting "help" from Eckhart Tolle. Happiness and Sadness comes from within. The greatest thing that Eckhart says, is that we should just become friendly with whatever feeling arises... but too obsessed with trying to JUST BE HAPPY is sick. Don't waste your time with platitudes because it only makes you more hypocritical than religious people.

@mikeleza I can only speak from my own experience, but Tolle's message has definitely helped me. Am I happy all the time? No. Do I think the world is perfect? Far from it. But there are times when I realize I am lost in my own mind and realize the emotions it brings over my body. Just being aware of this can snap you out of your mind and bring you consciously to the present. Tolle is an enlightened Buddha in a Western world. Have you read The Power of Now? It can truly simplify the mind

@treyisdaman3, no offence but I don't want to waste my time reading his book. I've seen enough videos of him and heard enough friends talking about that I know its not my kind of thing. I like to listen to people that actually make sense and say things that are logical.... not spiritual leaders that seem to be in denial that they are trying to be spiritual leaders. Tolle is not enlightened... hes just another guy who said some cool stuff that apparently helps people feel that life is simple.

by all means... If reading Tolle is what does it for you... then go for it!
I will say though... that you can go on in life "simplifying the mind" but one day you might also have to admit that you don't even understand what goes on in your own head cos its just so complicated. All I'm saying is... Don't cut down your options.

@mikeleza You're absolutely right, exclusively trying to be happy is a mistake, and that's not what Tolle is saying. He says to let go of both happiness and sadness, so you have nothing. Just stillness.

@Elemental226, look I have no problem with this apart from the fact it doesn't make any sense but if that means something to you then well... great for you!
I am all for trying to let go of our emotions sometimes and trying to be more objective about ourselves and our relationships. What doesn't make sense is to say.... "so you have nothing"..... This is a platitude.... saying "Just stillness".... I suppose aims to be descriptive......... Personally I would prefer to be ALIVE than "stillness".
