How do I keep my green cheeked conure from going under my desk which is where all of my wires are. Ill let him mess around in my room but I dont want him under there obviously. If I have to I can somehow block it off. But I was wondering how you get your bird to only go in specific spots.
He may be chewing on his zipper because it is HIS zipper and he likes being with his person. Or just because he's curious. It doesn't mean he wants toys instead. It sounds to me like this bird has an active life in the home with plenty to do. When they are out and about a lot, they get other stimulation and don't need so many toys. The cage is just used as a sleep cage, it sounds like, so it doesn't need to be big.
@JonDuanePerry I want a bird who cab do things exactly like yours and is as social as yours and is fun and cute is a budgie parakeet or yellow canary to consider thanks plus how long should I wait to let it fly around the house how many mints with me? I'm new to this and I'm getting a bird this summer thanks :)
Having him poop on the windowsills is not very hygienic for you or the bird. It's pretty easy to train them to use a bird playgym or his cage as the designated toilet. You could put one at each window and move him to them every time he looks like he will poop, they get the message fast.
@Gourmeticainsularis1 That's a good tip but it's a little off topic for this video. The point of this video is not about how to keep a bird from getting out (see my other videos on flying outdoors). The point of this video is about how to shield your bird from household dangers like electric chords and so on. These are house hold items that can hurt a bird whether he loves you or not :)
@JonDuanePerry To shield him from electric chords you can first try not to play heavy metal too close to him or his cage, also don't wake him up with surprise heavy metal.
That is, not unless he's good a solid 60's/70's rock'n'roll culture.
@TrampOllen Try googling "Sun Conure for sale" plus the name of your city. I bought mine from a family that couldn't handle the noise. You might get one for cheep.
hey i love your vids i use to have a sun conyoure (sorry spelt that wrong i got him free with a huge cage he was free cause he was loud thats why i had to get rid of him he was cool though he talked and danced and took realy funny baths. keep the awsome vids up
Tiny cage so yes you wouldn't want to leave him in there very long. Placing him into the cage(verbally)@ 4:33 because he's chewing etc if he had stand/ toys offer those if you put him in the cage all the time he may think it's punishment bird the more trouble they can get into to. You can also make your own bird stand with large fruit tree branch you certainly have the room for one he would love it.
the smaller the bird is the more trouble they get into , had one stuck behind the stove and wall, another wrapped his foot around lamp shade bead decoration, one was stuck to a bug strip~ forgot to take down :o/ hard to get the glue off ~so you really need to think bird to check for hazards :)
Where does he stay and what does he do when you are gone? Does he have a bigger cage and a bunch of toys when he is alone?
You have done so great with a flighted bird! But he chews on your zipper because he needs chew toys. Parrots are like dogs -- they need to chew and play. They also need to interact with new things - esp diff things to fly to. They aren't lap animals -- eventually you'll find that out.
Please add some stimulating toys or show us he has toys, too.
biggest toy to parrots ( at least the big ones idk about the small ones) is its owner mine never touches a toy when its out of its cage and im in the same room so maiby he has the toys sumwhere else
@flychomperfly he doesn't chew on the zipper out of boredom. THey all do that silly! I make toys and buy stuff and am always coming up with new and interesting ways to try and stimulate my bird's mind but he loves loves loves buttons. I gave up and now buy sacks of buttons just so he can have his own to chew on. Given a chance a parrot will chew on anything.
@DJdext actually, i never said he was bored--i said he needed chew toys to distract him from the zipper. i think we are saying the same thing, but don't misinterpret my words.
you're right they like zippers...in fact, i buy zipper parts for them chew on, instead of on my clothes lol. and flyers NEED multiple perches.
yet while i also agree that some inside branches would be nice, jon went far beyond cages and perches...
apollo became an outdoor flier. pretty awesome. sure beats boredom.
@flychomperfly I did not misinterpret your words. What I read was someone giving this guy a hard time for no reason. You have no real clue about how he takes care of his bird other than the short videos he has here. Don't judge. I am sure the trolls can find issues with anything he or you posts. So don't give this guy a hard time ok
@DJdext yes. misinterpreted--no hard time--i was asking legitimate questions. look at the other comments...they saw it too...a bird spending long time in the cage without a lot of chew toys, and no birdie place to go and play when out of cage, which encouraged him to chew on human things.
Jon clearly loves his bird...said he was doing more enrichment, which he did.
and, WHO has no clue? i PERSONALLY talked to jon then, and he understood why i asked, and it's now history.
Did you ever think of getting him a floor standing play gym with toys on it to play with? It would be safer to have him on a playstand with toys and food/water, rather than going from window sill to mirror. Apollo is a lovely little parrot, good luck with him.
This looks so much like Shiloh my sun. I have 9 parrots at this time and all are fully flighted. We have had this since about 5 years ago. And enjoy their flying.
Tell Apollo tat i love him !!!

cutie. what sort of parrot s Appolo, how old is he. can he talk. how did you train him,
Tranquillizer 3 years ago
Apollo is a Sun Conure. He is 3 years old, he does not talk but he tries, I train him with food just like you would train a dog.
Birds don't respond well to punishment (they don't understand it) so when training birds you have to be constantly bribing them.
JonDuanePerry 3 years ago
thanks, good bird.
