  • I love this! So much because I can relate to this, esp on a day like today where I felt so confused and slightly discouraged with weight loss. Urgency is a mf'er. I needed to to hear this, thanks!

  • A lot of little thoughts running around in your head. I love it!

  • Makes perfect since!

    Thank you :)

  • 2 weeks ago i started to make these video tutorials on how to manage time and i was hoping to get your feedback about your lifestyle and do you manage time or not.. if you do how ? if you don't then tell me is it gonna make a difference if you do manage your time > thanks ..hoping to hear from you soon :) don't forget to watch my featured video to know what i'm talking about.

  • This is brilliant. Thank you so much. The then/if trap is one we can all relate to. Watching this completely got me out of my own head and made me realize what I'm really trying to do, and that really is to love myself. But I shouldn't have ultimatums to fulfill in order to achieve that. Thank you.

  • You kind of sound a bit different from your older videos.

  • Thank you so much :) I have been trying to lose weight, and I went on burn out. So I'm starting out differently now, and I'll see how it goes.

  • I don't know how I ended up watching your video just now but for the last couple of weeks I have been agonizing over the effort at which I am trying to lose weight and seeing no results for so many weeks. I discovered your site today and this video has had a profound impact. You got it right in my opinion and for whatever reason it was exactly what I needed right here right now. I made wonderful diet and exercise decisions today yet still found no joy in my success of the day and your words h

  • Well I'm glad you made it to release the thoughts.. it helped a lot. My max weight was 298, I was 286 in December when my life was turned upside down for many reasons.. and I set myself up to lose weight.. I've lost 68lbs and still going. My goal is 160 as well. And I was discouraged because it just feels like it's taking forever and results aren't coming (even though I went from 26/28, xxl/xxxl clothing.. to 16/18, L/XL clothing so far)..and I found this vid.. it helped, a lot. Thank you.

  • @bishoujosteph that is a major accomplishment. keep up the amazing work

  • my gosh, you are such a smart person !

  • you are right- you have to love yourself enough to be healthy and lose the weight! maybe thats why the other times it hasn't worked!!!

  • Very good video! Dead on! Thank you Shanti!!

  • I think youve just changed my life, thank you so much. that truly helps.

    and it does make sense.

  • You are actually amazing. This is coming from someone who very rarely comments on videos. But I just wanted you to know how many lives you've changed. Thank you.

  • you are glowing in this vid.... mashaAllah. I'm from seattle too! it was raining earlier....duh, lol

  • thank you for this video, really, thank you :)

  • Thank you :0)

  • You should be a public speaker! =D

  • thanks for sharing!

  • you make a great point, it is all psychological. Our brain has more power than we think. If the brain isn't healthy, then our bodies won't be either. Short goals are easier to achieve than larger ones, but we can add many short goals and create a big one, it is a again the power of our brain to help us be patient.

  • this is very helping! thank you very much!

  • I really liked the Tortoise & the Hare analogy... honestly made me think.... and you're definitely dead-on about wanting it right now... I always do that to myself... try really hard for a week and then get tired of it, or realize i could never keep this up, and then I just stop... but gosh it's so true that... like... people you love you want to take care of and keep happy, you want them to be healthy. Why can't we all have this same love for ourselves?

    Thank you for this video.

  • thank you so much for this

  • Wow, Antishay you are pretty insightful and you are really helping me to be motivated and eat healthy. THANK YOU!

  • YES! :D

  • I've always been very enthusiastic, wanted to do more and more.

Always gave up on it due to WAY TOO TIRED BODY.

    Moderation is the key word.

  • ur making perfect sense thats how i think but everybody around u make u feel like ur nothing

  • you're still going to find things about yourself you wish you could change.. you just have to love yourself for who you are, what you have and what you can offer the world. People should think about this more often. Thanks so much for this video.. it really got me thinking* =)

  • wow! this is a wonderful video! I completey understand what you mean. When you love yourself you want to do good things for you & your body! Take it from me, I'm thin and ppl tell me all the time "you have the body ppl pay $ for" blah blah blah I dont care how "thin" you are..

  • you're perfectly making sense.

i'm not sure that loving yourself and wanting to treat yourself good leads to eating healthy. because speaking of food a "treat" is usually something "bad" healthwise.

BUT i'm sure loving (at least accepting) yourself IS the key. i noticed that when i was dealing with bad skin. i hated my skin, my face. when i realized that and stopped and accepted it - my skin got better. sure, outer treatments probably helped too, but not before i started "not hating" myself.

    xoL

  • I'm so glad to have watched your videos! :) lately I have been trying to lose weight. I usualy exercise 30+ a day sometimes even 2 hrs or more depending I also dont eat junk food anymore and nor sweets or stuff and it wasn't har at all :) i know just don't drink soft drinks (apart from severeal occasions) anymore which is so amazing the fact you feel so much better and you notice everything extra you were eating are something you can live without... ALL YOU NEED IS MOTIVATION

  • You make perfect sense, and I 'm glad you took the time to share your thoughts. It's important to get your ideas out; written or verbal it enables us to truly understand what were are thinking rather then the thoughts bouncing around and replaying themselves in our inner voice brain. Plus I find that when I am doing chores alone in my house, is when my brain speaks to me without being questioned. Hopefully that doesn't sound odd...anyways, many thanks!

  • SHANTI do you ever think about how many people you INSPIRE! & How easy and affective if would be to have like an online talk show about weight lose and or just things like your doing now on youtube!!

    <3 anyway u INSPIRE ME!

  • no wonder people gain weight when they are in love

  • yeah i started my weight loss by not drinking soda and its been going good for me cause now i only drink water and green tea and i have seen a change and i really feel good

  • I have began a lifestyle change BECAUSE I love myself :) This video was very wonderful

  • i've started watching you about 2 months ago...i'm a college student and I gained the average 15-20 pounds...and I want to lose weight before I get too comfortable with this size. I completely eliminated soda out of my diet..I dont drink as much alcohol anymore. I am trying Shanti I truly am! :-(

  • Thank u Shanti! That was awesome..i've been watching u for a while now n it's bCos of u i started my workout/Yoga once again cos like u said i burned out myself:( but anyhu, im back on my tracks and ALL THANKS TO U..u're my Hero my Idol and i feel Proud to say that...im hoping to succeed like u too...pls wish me luck:) lotsa love:) x

  • Best of your videos. There is thruth ringing throughout the whole message. thanks.

  • I think that this is one of the best videos I have watched in a long time and so much of it made sense thank you for sharing this.

  • This video is amazing. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Gave me a lot to think about... especially "If I loved myself would I stuff myself to the point of being uncomfortable?"

  • it make so much sense that you made me cry am not in love with me and that is why am where am here I want to statrt loving myself but how can you love yourself when you have surrounded yourself over life with others who don't love you and it be comes a daily thing and you know its wrong but just like anything how to start

  • Shanty; for a midnight rambling- that was awesome! I tend to do my best thinking at night and I totally agree with having to love ourselves first. I'v got thoughts rolling around too now; thinking about how this applies to me and my journey. And yes; I'll work on my happy list as well :)

  • I sorta agree with what you are saying, dieting takes a long time and is a slow process with may small changes over time... Yet, if I truly loved myself, would I really want to change myself? I want to treat myself better but I still don't like how I am. I love myself but don't like myself... Is that still Ok?!

  • I disagree on the point that it has to start with loving oneself. I don't know if I do or don't love myself, but the one thing I know what was needed, was weightloss. Not for medical or pysical reasons, not for anyone or anything else except my own desire for change. I started hardcore. Just like you said, everyone is unique. I'm still hardcore and although it doesn't seem sattisfying yet, I've lost 62pounds in 7 months and still going strong. Not because of willpower, but of purpose.

  • I totally agree. I kinda said this in my own video for the hot for halloween. I am working on myself in the inside by writing and talking about how I am feeling, and telling myself what I love about myself. Last year, I did lose 55lbs, but I actually did NOT like myself. Now that I gained 25-30lbs, I realised that I needed to change myself in the inside before I can change myself on the outside. Thank you so much for making this video!

  • I started my happy list and you are on it :)

  • wow you truly are an inspiration! i have starting to come to a similar realization. I am going to start my happy list tonight. maybe i will make it a note on facebook and have other people add to it... i want to love myself for who i am now. i look at my anorexic clothes and long to slip back into them... thinking i will love myself loads more at that point but knowing that i probably wont.

  • Yesssss Shanti!

You are on to something. Keep talking. I realized this too when I was remembering how at my thinnest I was much more outgoing, happy, went shopping, did my hair everyday etc. and first thought "If I was thin, I would do all those things again". But then I thought "If I did all those things that I loved again maybe I would start to lose weight because of my positive attitude". You gotta love yourself... for any change in your life to happen for the better. :) Thanks!

  • I also agree with you about the if-then statements. I think a lot of weight is gained back not only because usually the diet is unrealistic, but also because that person still hasn't accepted themselves. You can never be perfect, so there are still reasons why they are unhappy. It is almost as though the weight will naturally come off if you are happy and satisfied with life, just adjusting to what your body needs instead of what you always want (like ice cream!). Thanks for the thoughts!

  • I think that what you said also ties into this shame we feel for being overweight or not perfect. I see so many people filled with shame because they are overweight, and all that negativity permeating their body cannot be healthy. Only by accepting yourself and changing to improve what you like about yourself will you be successful- shame causes furtive behaviors like binge eating.

  • I so agree with you. My journey started in Jan. I can truly say I am loving myself more than ever. I work with what God has given me. I feel that I am improving everyday. I also share good thoughts and comments to pass alone my positive energy. Thank you for helping so many of us see the light.

  • You make more sense than you realize. You are very intellegent, and wise beyond your years. I wish I had had your wisdom when I was your age. Keep up the good work...your an insperation!!

  • thank you so much.. you are so beautiful, and so inspiring. this makes sense.

  • ....but i prefer this lifestyle so far. i am going mostly organic and hoping to be vegan. well, fish i won't give up. so whatever you call a raw food person that just eats seafood.. lol

  • by the way, i can totally relate to thinking how weird i thought these people were. the ones that are vegan or vegetarian. won't lie. i ate healthy, but not like now. my diet consisted of more crap than healthy stuff. and now, i have nothing but complete admiration for those that live a raw/vegan lifestyle and are hardcore about it. i think it's amazing. and i want that for me. i just need to transition myself into it. because i am so used to the junk, it's hard to give certain things up.

  • i get asked the same thing. and you sound a lot like me when i tell them. lol. good to know there is someone out there that thinks like me.

  • I now know what my journaling topic will be tonight. My Happy List! <3

another fantastic video. This seld love thing is something i've really been working on for the past few months. I'm glad you made this video. Thanks, Shanti!! <3

  • Hey Shanti, I just wanted to say Thank you for posting this video. Your thoughts expressed are sincere and very true I think for all of us out there trying to put a "value" on ourselves, and also explains some of the extremely fanatical behaviours we often express in our attempts to lose weight. You've definitely given me a new perspective on this, and you really are amazing!

  • It is called 'conditional' love. Love with conditions and it hurts everyone when used. Learning to love anyone/anything unconditionally is very challenging as it is a play on power and our ego selves. Eckhart Tolle's work might help some folks in this area.

  • Such a great video! Thanks, I am so glad you shared!

  • This video hit me pretty hard. I think most of my journey to weight loss has always been driven by the mantra " If I lose the weight then someone will love me."

    I actually started tearing up.

  • in fact, this video made me cry, b/c you opened up a whole new way of thinking for me. I didn't realize how bad I was hurting myself emotionally and physically by thinking the way i was!

  • The way you explain the "if" "then" scenario helped me re-look at things, helped me so much! thank you. I am always so desperately try to approve of myself. I need to love myself first. *sigh* I feel a "weight" off of me thinking this new way...pun intended.

  • This is exactly what I needed, right at this moment. Thank you so much!

  • This Is Making Me Think Another Way. Ur Amazing.

  • This is so true! It wasn't until I accepted myself at the size/weight that I was that I began to lose weight. I remember the day I took all the smaller sized clothing out of my closet and donated it to charity. Boy, I could have saved some money this week if I still had that bag- I've lost 55 pounds so far!

  • *BRAVO* Amazing video :) Your absolutely right for loving myself the way I am.

  • wtched twice....the healthier and better you feel the more you have tweaked your diet.......Shanti, a bigger problem is (if I lose weight , others will love me)...You are so right...love ourselves ...do it for ourselves............a

  • Throw your scales away raw food is not a diet its a healthy lifestyle a diet has an end raw food is forever. Great vid

  • My beginning wasn't loving myself. It was that my weight landed me in the hospital. A scare big enough that made me lose 156 lbs. It wasn't about feelings anymore. It was about killing my body. Without my body I can't live. I don't like myself for what I've done to my body, but I do love myself. For me it isn't about counting calories and punishment, it's about: I am worth it. I am worth being healthy/happy. If I wasn't happy I don't think the weight would've come off in the first place.

  • This is good stuff. It sounds like this woman on here named Andrea Albright. Her approach on weight loss is centered on self-love and acceptance before anything else. You should check it out!

  • andrea albright was amazing in her weight loss journey!!!! props to her!!!! :)

  • how can you fight late night cravings man

  • shanti, i completely agree with everything you say in this video. weight loss is not a solution, you need to love yourself because losing the weight cant DO that part for you.

    thanks for this shanti

  • At first I couldn't figure out what my inspiration was to lose weight but I came to the conclusion it's the pretty lady up above. When I have bad days I watch the vids and motivation comes back!!!

  • Loved it

  • great VID!!

  • yeah..that makes sense, actually...I think I'm gonna make a Happy List sometime=]. Not now, maybe later. I don't think I've reached the point in my life where I am so depressed or lonely or desperate to find something good to do that would make me feel better just because I've been feeling so down.. I'm perfectly fine with my life right now, and I do NOT HATE my body. Yes I'm overweight, yes I'd like to lose weight, but I'm not desperate to do so. Excellent video Shanti. You've really opened up!

  • I enjoyed that, thanks shanti

  • now, how to start loving yourself, esspecially for someone who had had years of self hatred?

  • loveeeee this video!!!!!~=)

  • You are so wise, and it makes absolute sense! I love how you just pour out all your thoughts. You not only address weight loss issues but life in general. Loving yourself and life unconditionally is a hard thing to do. You have made me realise that it isn't that hard and that the energy and positivity of life is shining all around :D. It's just up to me now to realise and embrace it. you are very inspiring.xxx

  • Right on, Sister! Well said!

  • i think exercising is a good start to loving yourself, or it just was one for me.

  • You made PERFECT sense : )

  • makes perfect sense! very well said! i have thought some of these same thoughts..but could not have let them out so eloquently!

  • You should write a book!

  • You've answered my Question! <3 =] and You Should do more Vlogs. =]

  • THIS... Is a good video.

  • Thank you Shanti!! I visualize my extra weight as a physical representation of pain, anger, hurt + sadness from my past and that instead of "losing weight" I am "releasing" those feelings so they will no longer burden me.

  • Amazing Thoughts! Love this "if then" thought! Thanks so much for sharing ♥

  • to start losing weight , it will not happen overnight...set a foundation not a goal at the start. if you set a goal..you will not meet that goal at the start..if you set a foundation you can work up to it..dont stop eating what you allways eat..if you prive yourself you wont be successful..take babie steps towards your foundation and at the end of the tunnel you will see light..thank you

    p.s dont not crash diet..

  • Shanti, I must say that you are extremely right, your words have been in my mind many times but I did not want to listen to them. I think that we must love ourselves without any condition and then the changes will come. I think God used you to make me listen to the voices that I was ignoring for a long time. Thank you!!!

  • its so true.

  • thank you for this video Shanti!!

  • looking beautifully healthy, Shanti!

  • 2:40 - 3:01 That´s exactly it! Yes!

I don´t really make a connection between weight loss, in my case actually getting fit, and loving myself. It´s more and issue of liking my looks. And I´m my most hard but fair criticizer.

  • There is SO much truth/sense in what you're explaining! I've strengthened my self-love to let go of urgencies a couple times. It was amazing! It's also constant work, so I'm still at it.

  • I like the sound of rain in the beginning. Calming and setting proper conversational atmosphere. :)

  • another Shanti vid on my favorites list :)

  • so true

  • very good thoughts. I have always had the I love my self first or you have to inorder to make it.

  • Wow, this video is amazing! This advice is priceless because it makes so much sense to me- it's like a light bulb went off thanks to you! As crazy as it sounds, I can honestly say this video will change my life. You are a beautiful person inside and out~thank you for sharing these thoughts =)

  • you are 100% right, not crazy at all, lol. something that stuck with me with something that oprah said.. 'you have to believe you're worth it.' if you don't it won't happen for you.

  • I watch my weight/health beause i love myself.

How are you liking/adjusting to your new home in CA?XOXO

  • I love myself and luv this vid! rock on shanti!

  • I've yo-yo-d all my life because when I'd get to goal in the past, and my life wasn't perfect, I turned back to food. It wasn't until getting involved in YT and lots of self reflection, that I realized, I am ok! I will enjoy this moment! I will strive to continue improving but I will accept myself how I am today :) Great vid! Love Jason's Happy List!!!

  • i think you are right i had mentioned in my video about people wanting it so fast and it is not going to happen! But you really are deep and correct i think we all start losing weight to be better ,perfect, normal so we can be accepted and people will see us in a good way! We all worry to much about how people see us and feel we need to be perfect! thanks for sharing this video with us! i like it

  • I agree !

  • I freakin' love you:) I'm on the same page. I did a video similar to this. It's honestly true, once you love yourself you'll be able to start doing good things for your body gradually. <3

  • yup. u're right. and when u're right, u're right.

its this step1 i have issues with. but its vital.

  • wow i love this video. it came at the exact perfect time in my week! thanks :)

  • Why you have 6,000 plus followers here on YT... because of videos like this one! My fave one this year Shanti!! Hugs from Canada, R77

  • very true...loving ourselves has to begin now..that way we can appreciate every step of the journey, the victories and the obstacles, and we are less apt to find disappointment at the "end of the rainbow"...which happens so much, especially with yo-yo dieting

  • Awesome! I'm sooo going to write my happy list LOL

Thanks Shanti =) Sweet dreams ^^

  • wise head, thumbs up!

  • It took you a minute to come around the corner but we got the point. It is a very good one. When people do the boot camp fast 20 lb. in 2 week loss, they dont establish the habbits of eating and drinking water that need to be there to make a life change. Then when the drill sargent is no longer there making them do that crazy work out program they go back to their bad habbits and gain back 35 lbs. The slow road, little changes, over a longer period of time is the best way to go. AWESOME THAUGHT.

  • HAPPY LIST <3 <3 <3 <3

  • I enjoyed seeing your though process and how you are building on what you have learned.

I loved your closing comment "Food for thought". The statement is neither good or bad, it's just interesting how often we use food to share love, feelings and even ideas and that comes out in our communication.

    Good vid.

  • I can't help but think our phone conversation tonight helped to inspire this

  • EXACTLY!!! THANKS for the vid =]

  • i think what you said is very true~!

  • This is a great thought. Thank you for sharing.

  • Hey Girl! Wow I have missed your amazing vlogs! You are truely a wonderful person who has incredible thoughts...thank you SOOO much for sharing! xox

  • Brilliant Shanti! You are really intelligent and perceptive and it is such a help for me to be able to listen to you. On an unrelated note, you look uber skinny :)

  • THIS is why i love to watch YOUR vids! Gregs also, they go way deeper.

I think what you said is so true. Ive been trying to lose weight for a very long time now and failed at a hand full of diets. It is only until about 3 months ago that i figured out it wasnt the weight that was bothering me it was my self image... Now that im working on that food doesnt seem to be that big of an issue, i too am eating more and more raw :)

And dont worry about rambling, you were very clear!

  • wow.. you hit the nail on the head with this video.. everything is so true.. in the past its been i need to do this now.. and ive never really loved myself.. but slowly i'm learning to change and now i'm at the stage where i love myself but i dont like what i see.. its a start right...lol

    take care..

    kirsty x

  • Wow. This really makes me slow down and actually think everything out. And it made a lot of sense, and it really opened up my eyes. I needed that, thanks Shanti! :)

  • very good thoughts there. it made me actually wanna slow down and really look inside of me instead of whats on the outside. Cause I think, that you have to change yourself from the inside out in order to succed permanently with your weight. What do you think?

    (five stars btw ^^)

    Ja matane<3

    /Bjjau

  • This also carries over into other aspects of your life. Always thinking your not good enough is a horrible way to live. I am 260pds and always thought I couldn't be happy unless I was thin. I thought I couldn't get a beautiful woman to give me the time of day. Well I'm glad to say I've finally overcome this crutch and I learned that it truly is what's on the inside that counts. When you love yourself, people notice your confidence. Losing weight also becomes easier.

  • Hey, I completely agree with what your talking about here. Every time I try and lose weight I drastically change my diet and expect to carry it on forever. In reality, this is truly setting yourself up for failure. I lost 70 pounds once before, and because I did it rather drastically I gained ALL of it back. I never learned self control throughout the loss. I obsessed over the scale and hated myself if I cheated. This is no way to live. Learn to love yourself first, and the rest will come :)

  • thank you. i needed a video like this. you are amazing and such a smart girl.

  • AMAZING! WOW! Thank you so much for putting up this video, it meant so much to me. Amazing Shanti!

  • I think when ur overweight, u get so down n disgusted w/ urself that u make these, 'i cant take this anymore' plans. As in, 'im going to eat perfect n go to the gym 3 hours everyday'. Bc disliking urself is so painful that we go 2 the extreme. Then, bc there is so much riding on every bite/ workout (must be life transforming), we psych ourselves out n revert back 2 easy/bad habits. I mean who wants to go to the gym with the pressure that THIS workout has 2 be so perfect as to fix me immediately.

  • ahh

  • all I can say is wow. That was awesome. absolutely true.

  • Enjoyed the vlog! Hoping that you will do more like you used to...

  • Very true...it is the only way to enjoy life!

  • That's interesting, I think that I always feel that I urgently need to lose weight. I am going to stop being so urgent about it.

  • Interesting. It's a bit of a conundrum because forming love for yourself can come or be seeded from positive actions, the 'love is a verb' aspect of love, and the kind of action that is life affirmative such as exercise and healthy eating. I think the 'I will love myself when' aspect possibly comes from a feeling that you are currently NOT loving yourself, not doing what your body needs to function at its best and allow your mind more freedom from self obsession. I dunno, dftnly food 4 thought.

  • i always feel not confidant of myself, what should i do ??

  • Shanti, I think you hit the nail on the head! Loving yourself I think is so key not just for weight loss but in life! Thank you for your videos and taking the time to make them you've inspired me so much.

  • Good thinking :)

  • Thank you for this video great advice

I think you should make more vlogs

    =)

  • I sincerely think you should write a book. This is pure genius.

  • I think this is my favorite of all your videos. It seems really heartfelt. Keep up the good work.

  • First comment??

    Love you Shanti!
