I didn't mean to say all of Warhol's ideas were pretentious, I just think there are way more artists during that time period that pushed boundaries compared to Warhol. I'm not saying Warhol didn't have depth either, but at a time like that I don't feel like depth was that necessary. I think Dylan, Velvet Underground, Klaus Voorman, Ginsberg, did great without out an intense amount of depth. Like everything though, it's all a matter of opinion.

well that would be the first thing - a lot of andy warhol's statements were about the cult of celebrity. so yes, that 'he' does it makes it more important might be one level of his critique. this may seem obvious but he was doing this in the sixties when celebrity culture was first massively rising. another level is indeed the rise of the trivial - quite prophetic if you think about the banal things we constantly put on facebook etc, reality tv.

@Conner2029 a lot of this was just describing what's happening - but social commentary has long been the role of the artist. another level to 'pop' art was of course 'questioning what is art?' but the point was made, and i think too many artists are still putting out 'anything' in the bland name of 'what is art?'. i just don't think this video (fifty years later) actually adds much to the ideas originally raised.
