I think most of the people who dislike "Host" aren't into or even open to electronic music. I felt this album was great & really show that PL aren't just a metal band but are quite capable of transcending the genre & giving it a much needed kick in the teeth.

I remember when I bought this album - exactly 13 years ago !! I thought - wtf ? But later on I realised that Paradise Lost brought something new to the table. I love One Second to bits !! They have prooved they can go with progress and they have also prooved - it was a great job. Don't get me wrong - Im talking about One Second.

I love every album Paradise Lost has done and i personally rate this album in the top 5 at least. Ok, it isn't a metal album but it is quite dark and Greg's guitar and Nick's vocals still sound like Paradise Lost as they are both unique.

I really like PL primarily for their metal albums, but you know what? Host is easily one of their best albums, period. It's arguably the most intersting in terms of musical direction, and it has a sense of melancholy that's more focused than most of their albums. PL really can play any style they want and be good at it, and Host is proof of that. Hell, I like it a little more than In Requiem, even.

Sounds very Depeche Mode to me, which I don't mind at all.

I like some of their older stuff from Gothic and Draconiam Times, but I'm also diggin their newer stuff like One Second, Erased etc.

Hardcore fans may not appreciate the changing sounds but I think if you don't change you get stale! Peace

@mrgmakin This purely depends on someone's point of view. To some the kind of change PL went though was not comprehensible, to other's a sign of musical evolution. One thing is sure - if you take a song from the album from 1990, then a song the album from 1999, then a song from the album from 2009, you wouldn't tell that it's the same band - the music was so different. But it was gripping at all of those times.

The whole "Host" album was just an experiment. Some songs were very good ("behind the grey"!!), others were a bit lame.

At this time they were bored by Metal and wanted to make Electro Pop/rock. You can think what you want about the album, but it was honest and a very consequent decision. At this time they were on the highest point of their popularity and nobody would have expected such a radical change.

Host is a great record.people is rude,really don't understand when a band want to have an evolution into music. Now these guys are back with a new metal direction with century media.but its just a ghost in the wind! That label will destroy everything like with samael..and others.Anyone remind great years from "clouds" to "wildhoney" with tiamat...and anyone knows the story of paradise lost.. These guys invented the "gothic" and i think most need to buy a cement mixer to listen too....
