  • It's interesting that from 2007 to the present at the AO Rafa was totally beat down by everyone except Federer in 2009 when he won the title. Gonzo straight-setted him in 2007, Tsonga annhiliated him in 2008, Murray destroyed him in 2010 and Ferrer crushed him in 2011. Truly remarkable considering he was either number 1 or 2 during that entire time period.

  • i am pretty sure nadal was injured ( sarcasm : THEN AGAIN WHEN IS HE NOT INJURED ? OH YEAH WHEN HE IS WINNING)

  • Gozo's best year

  • Gisela Dulko is hot.

  • @3:18 i called that volley... the big gonzalez ( LA GRAN GONZALEZ in spanish)

  • WHAT A FACE 8:34 !!! It's like : WTF BITCH HIJO DE PUTA MERDE CHIER

  • i would have loved to see federer smash nadal in this tournament.

  • has anybody seen gonzalez playing any better than this?

  • Nadal strategy=Aim at backhand 1000x

  • @aca8638 Yeah and dont give him enough time to run around it, cos inside-out forehand even more damaging

  • Watching this match you can see that Gonzalez had all the talent to win a Grand slam but he did not have anywhere near the mental strength needed.

  • Gonzalez's backhand isn't too good. The shot from Nadal in second set just pop on his slicing backhand (Almost every shot).

  • @BrianCuber This doesn't mean that his backhand isn't good. Btw the slice is used to "damage" your opponnent. So this isn't a reason that his backhand's bad

  • @xXHotSpotXx To damage is it to make the opponent tired and make him frustrated? I am not very sured.

  • @BrianCuber There are some players who can't play well after a slice. And some topplayers Nadal could hit the ball into the net after a good slice

  • GRANDE GONZALEZ! LOS MEJORES JUGADORES SON CHILENOS

  • Gonzalez that sweeps Nadal away... I love you, Gonzo

  • Love it, Gonzalez could do no wrong in this match.

  • Back Then The court was much FASTER ,, thats why the clay chicken couldent do any thing there

  • Gozalez lo dijo tiempo despues: "Sentía que volaba en Australia".

  • Australian open always seems to have some surprise players

  • the look on Nadal's face at 8.32...sums it up really!

  • It doesn't happen that often Nadal being thrashed on court. This is one of the rare exemples. That was some sick tennis from Gonzalez.

  • 2:17 THE BEST POINT

  • 1 dislike came from Nadal!

  • I don't understand why Gonzalez doesn't use his topspin backhand more, its pretty good.

  • Oh, finally a video of this match where I can see the ball! Thank you very much man!!!

  • im so happy to see Gondalez kicked Nadal's ass.

  • @marxracicot

Why do you like seeing the person will perhaps go down as the best player in history in 5 years getting beat?

  • @dmh091 dont worry,im sure he enjoyed the"best player in history"getting his ass kicked by djokovic 6 straight times this year.Lol,"best player in history"

who let this guy out of the lunatic asylum???

  • @KaminariKatta

Looks like you have no idea about tennis. Roger Federer at age 25 had 9 Grand Slams. Nadal at age 25 has 10 Grand Slams.

Just wait and see what happens. And learn about tennis a bit ;)

  • @dmh091 yea and federer won 3 grand slams the next year when he was 26.

Can rafa win 3 grand slams next year???Lol,i'd think he'd win 3grand slam runner up plates to djokovic instead.

He lost like 7/8 finals this year.

He might surprise us with his clutch consistency in failing at finals and pissing his pants when djokovic picks up his racquet on the other side of the court.

But dont worry, regarding finals losses, there's always andy murray.

  • @KaminariKatta

He already won 3 slams just last year. Don't discard him so quickly :)

I'm sorry but you seem not to know much about tennis.

  • @dmh091 awww, poor rafa fan seems so devastated by him getting ass-raped by djokovic 6 times this year that he's gone delusional.

    Hey,its 2011 now you know??

Your talking like rafa will all of a sudden play like jesus, like at the 2010 us open where he mysteriously got his super serve, which then disappeared.

Dont worry,im sure rafa will up the dose next year.

  • @KaminariKatta

Actually I prefer Federer over Rafa. But I try to see things as objectively as possible :). If Rafa consistently looses during 2 or 3 years in a row I might start changing my mind. But not for now. ;)

  • I love watching this match.

  • I Love watching this match.

  • "oh he's made it. No!" well said

  • Maybe Gonzalez' best match.

    Great video, thank you.

  • few times you see nadal disappointed

  • I love this. Always so exciting.

  • One thing this match shows, which tennis fans might appreciate, is that Gonzalez is not 'all forehand'.

It is nearly impossible to beat Rafael Nadal at a Grand Slam without having a good backhand, if you're a righty. Nadal pummelled Gonzo's backhand relentlessly in this match and it didn't crumble. And when it came to his forehand he was actually able to outhit Nadal, which is an incredible feat.

I look forward to Gonzo's return from injury!

  • this was incredible tennis from gonzalez, as flawless a display of power hitting you are ever going to see. It took an absolute freak (federer) to stop what would have been the most blistering slam winning display ever.

  • @raff23 "2007 federer"

  • and how things have changed... u slice vs nadal ... and u get killed !

  • fernando gonzalez the best

  • gonzo potencia en el drive, que derecho pero q derecho que tiene, tiene un cañon en ese brazo

  • best point of the match at 6:17 and no replay...? what the shit?

  • Gonzo was on fire during this tournament, he destroyed Nadal, Hewitt, Haas.. his close match was actually against a young Del Potro in early round.

  • So like 90% of Nadal's shots go to his backhand. COOL NADAL

  • @CursedCero Wasn't as smart of a player back then

  • nadal vs gonzales matches are so funny

  • This was back in the day when nadal was waaay too passive on hardcourts. His groundstrokes were tricky but not consistently powerful enough.

  • Who would win, 2007 australian open gonzalez or a 2008 australian open tsonga? I would give it to Tsonga in 4 sets.

  • It seems like nadal always gets completely destroyed by someone at the aussie open every year.

  • Nadal will always lose to whoever doesn't come on the court fearing him and making stupid mistakes, soon as his opponents can keep the ball in play and make some winners then his matches are always long and hard.

Take away his one dimensional tactic of attacking people backhand and he is nothing but he seems to have realize that as he is now going to people forehand a little more than he used to do back in them days,by example soderling .

  • @akebefrontiere nonsense. The whole "players fear nadal" is laughble. He is the best player in the world. No one fears him, he wins his matches through his abililty, not people "fearing him".

  • the woman talkin must rlly hate nadal o.0 her comments r so biased

  • Raffa hits great topspin in this match. His court depth is why he lost this match, he needed to hit more baseline ground strokes. He got owned .

  • no. he was playing just fine. he just couldn't get a hold on gonzo that night because he was on fire the whole tournament.

  • he nadal is monkey

  • Nadal hit too many of approach shots cross court.

  • Nadal looks like an indian

  • Yea he dressed like an indian and now he is dressing like a clown.

  • @mysteriekiller hahahahhahahhaha so funny

  • the point during 0:59 is one of gonzalez's best forms ever

  • People call the likes of Roddick and karlovic one-dimensional and '1 shot wonders'. WTF about this guy?

His backhand is suspect, he's a mental midget and has an ok serve......

however he is entertaining to watch!!!

  • you're a mental midget.

  • oh. I am so offended; can you tell!

  • I apologize, I didn't know you were so sensitive.

  • and yet he owned Nadal in this match...hmmmmm

  • And yet Nadal has 'owned' Gonzo ever since!

  • ok im nt sayin hes not but ur were slating Gonzalez sayin hes 1 dimensional and still he beat Nadal so his game cnt be tht bad! I admit he dus slice it a lot, but he hits sum good passing shots in this game!

  • Nadal loses to the 1 dimensional guys though.

Federer; the most all-rounded player in today's game hasn't got a great record. Matchup issues i guess!

  • @Anaconda43VR Actually his backhand is not that bad... his first coach horacio de la peña made him start using the slice a lot because it would make the player get used to a slow speed but then after a few shots gonzalez would switch to his forehand and BOOM point is over.

and his service is top 10 in aces. (saw it in a magazine with statistics ;D)

  • I agree but Fernando Gonzalez has beaten everyone at one time or another. The thing that keeps him from winning majors and other big tournaments is his consistency. He has flashes of brilliance then he falls apart. If he could stay consistent he could probably be in the top 4.

  • at 3:52, it's like "Wake up, bitch!"

  • He played so well at this tournament, he deserved to win it imo.

  • This forehand is so sick

  • the woman speaker's voice is very irritating

  • huge forehands

  • i believe he was like 3,7 underdog

  • biggest match of Gonzo carrier !

  • Gonzalez is underrated!

  • oh is he... haven't checked the rankings... i only care where roger federer's at ha. if he's 5th in the world, he deserves to be there!

  • @hasselett no he's not, and he wasn't 3 months ago when you made this comment.

  • @djsewell disagree ... he was playing great in this match .... but he just doesnt seem to be able to keep it up !

  • the worst smash attempt i've ever seen at 3:35

  • this is very very bad hard court tennis by nadal^^

damn somebody should tell him this is no clay court

  • wut is hardcourt tennis anyways? is there a way to play hardcourt tennis?

  • fernando's wrong with that if aa ALOS for the Americans so shut the fuck better porfavor

  • domination at its very best

  • Now his shots are like 3 or 4 feet deeper than this match

  • wow nadal has developed his game so much since then

  • Nadal got schooled!!

  • the funny part is where they shout at 2.30 'bout Rafa: aah.. Gonzales: Uahhh...^^ but very nice match

  • Wow, is it me or he slices alot ..... gets kinda repetitive

  • you have a good point, especially considering his very recent losses to Murray.

But his performance at AO was great, and he's only gotten better this year, so i expect more finals on hard courts in the future from him

  • Nadal amazing on hard courts? Not even close.

One AO doesn't make you amazing on hard courts, especially when it's a slow hard court as at the AO. In the last year, he's lost to Simon, Tsonga, Davydenko, Monfils, Seppi and Djokovic on hard courts; hardly impressive.

  • he's a great hard court player, but he will never win the us open

he would have no chance against murray or federer on a fast hard court

  • Comment removed

  • haha this before nadal got amazing on hard courts, as well

  • LOL gonzalez comes from Chile

  • lol ya gotta feel bad for nadal in a way...hes seemed to run into the "revamped" eventual finalist of this tournament 2 years running....gonzalez in 07 and tsonga in 08....hes lost sort of brutally to both, but who can blame him? they were beastly

  • I've never seen Nadal completely outstrip in a professional tennis match as in this match against Gonzalez

  • I have.

watch the HD highlights in high quality of Nadal playing Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the SF of AO 2008. He was absolutely stifled. even though i love Feña, Tsonga killed Nadal even more.

  • is fernando no fOREHANDO xD

  • 6:26

O HHES MADE IT! NOO. ITS JUST... no..

amazing commentating lol. but i do admit, in matches where there are too many amazing winners, they eventually run out of things to say

  • great tennis from gonzalez

  • gonzo: vamos!

    rafa: that's my first vamos!

    gonzo: que barbaridad!

    rafa: leche!

    rafa: vamos!

    rafa: vamos! vamos! vamos!

    gonzo: yawa ka nadal!

    Gonzo: vamos! vamos!

  • one match between these two guys without the expression "VAMOS!"... doesn´t be a match xD

  • gonzo: woah!

    rafa: woah!

    gonzo: woah!

    rafa: woah!

    (endless woahs!)

    rafa: woah!

    gonzo: woah!

    rafa: woah!

    gonzo: woah!

  • vamos gonzalez!!! his forehand is the best ever. perfect control and crazy speed...

but is he still active?? because someone told me he isn´t....

  • he is more active than ever, in fact he's gonna play nadal next monday at the australian open

    c'mon fernando!!!!!

  • I hope he wins again!

  • haha yes i´ve already noticed it. he´s gonna destroy rafa once more!! VAMOS fernando!! gonzo played very well against gasquet-that was an amazing match. but dammit when the match starts i´ve to go to school...thats so *?^=/-*!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Didn't happen, did it?

    Lol.

  • nadal's spin on his forehand makes it stick out for heavy flat hitters like tsonga and gonzalez on these surfaces, and even more on one as slow as the ao. if he could learn how to flatten it more with his grip, he could compete on all surfaces, rather than mostly clay.

  • nadal cant hit flat with his grip its impossible

  • he's talented enough to find a way, or slightly change his grip when he'd want to. plus it's more about the wrist movement than the grip, if he didn't have the whip it'd be flatter. it's not impossible for him to hit flat shots, his backhands are very flat, especially crosscourt.

  • he cant hit a flat forehand with his grip though

  • it's not as complex as a golf swing, federer added a topspin variant to his forehand a couple years ago as well, which uses the same type of whip nadal does.

and again, the grip isn't important, it's the arm movement, if he pushes through it instead of whips it, it'd go flatter. he might not enjoy it, it might feel awkward at first, but he'll get used to it. all i'm saying is it would be an extra option, which are always welcome.

  • man how did gonzalez win the point at 0:30

  • amazing point at 6:17, and only 5 shots long!

  • damn I miss the rebound ace

Hewitt begged until the switched it from RA to plexicushion but that plexicushion is slower than ass and Hewitt still hasn't won the Aussie

they better keep their promise and speed it up like they said they would last week.

  • I wish Rafa could get a haircut....

  • this woman announcer sucks...monotone as ever

  • why are people bad commenting this?

  • are you kidding me?

it is sexy. it might be monotone but she's actually talking tennis. i bet she would have been one sexy lady up there in the comm. box.,

  • look where gonzalez stands at 0:31

  • SO?

  • hes standing way towards the middle

  • right...he was expecting the serve down the middle and he got it...why stand in the middle of the service box and have to move when you know he's gonna serve it down the middle of the court

  • Your video quality is so awesome. :)

  • for this way, Tsonga was also using steroids??!

    i don't think so!

  • es un orgullo tener un tenista como el en chile !VIVA CHILE MIERDA! muy bueno fernando gonzales le iso unos puntos de oro grande FEÑA

    .........:)............

  • I counted seven or eight points which Nadal won when Gonzalez was allowed to use his forehand in a rally. Quite a monster. =)

Too bad he's not on that level right now. Nadal was way too good in the Olympic final.

Anyway, thanks for keeping those vids coming! There was a lot of great tennis during AO 07.

  • Yeah, if only Gonzalez had won that slightly out volley on his set point in the second set things would have been different. But even though Nadal has improved since, he was number 2 for more than one year already and Gonzalez crushed him. I still prefer Federer to Nadal.

  • who meet gonzalez in the semi final?

  • Tommy Haas. Gonzalez won 6-1 6-3 6-1!

  • Oh boy, time has really flown since 2007.

If you are busy worrying about the future, you are always living in the past, and missing the present. There's no need for living in the past...One has to admit, a year ago, Nadal was a different person. Things have changed since. He's moving forward. Literally as well as figuratively!!!

  • yes, obviously. this match was played one and a half year...many things was changed in this time. Actually Nadal playing better on hardcourts and he has more experience on the top

  • Gonzo's forehand ... christ, it's scary.

  • thanks...rate and ENJOY ;)

  • oh good...hd is so much better
