  • Dear god this is one of the best games i've ever played. I was born -92 and i was lucky my dad had this. I grew up watching him play it and rage as he time after time got raped by the motherbrain. I specifically remember the music in the last world before the boss. In my years of gaming i've never heard a more terrific balldropping soundtrack

  • creeping music, avoid the spotlight or you're caught. That's what this reminds me of if it wasn't Metriod

  • its nice but i like the remakes better, you can appreciate the song better.

  • but they sure dont come up with music this original and fascinating nowa days!!!

  • I believe as a kid playing this game I spent the most time in this level. I loved this level!

  • I am a 3DS Ambassador and I am loving this game. And this song.

  • I spent so many hours with this music ringing in my ears while playing...ahhh memories

  • Really Cool Sound

  • So good.

  • THE NOTE AT WHICH THE VIDEO ENDS IS BEYOND TERRIFYING...I COULDN'T TELL YOU WHY.

  • What could that 1 person possibly dislike about this? It's freakin Nofair.

  • i was 5 years old in '86, i bought metroid for 45$ with my allowance from sears. i am now 30 years. old. Best investment i have made to date.

  • @jdspencer60 You and I both. . .

  • Gemini Man's Stage

  • this song was released light years ahead of its time

  • "Whats with all these bubbles?"

  • Soundtrack to foreveralone.jpg

  • this is 10000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than justine bieber

  • Ես սիրում եմ այս երգը հին - ից 1986 թ (I love this old song from way back then)...!

  • One of my HIV meds is called Norvir..I'd bet anything they partially stole it from this game...

  • @Holysage1981 too much info...

  • i abused the replay button

  • This part of the game NEEDED X-ray vision, as seen in super metroid

  • Great theme. :)

  • Norfair probably is one of the levels that contains a lot secret passages, fake lava, power upgrades and missle expansions.

  • If you guys like this type of short, weird looping game music, then check out the soundtrack to Faria I uploaded. That soundtrack reminded me of this song. haha

  • If I ever have to see a psychiatrist and s/he asks what is going on in my mind, I will play this song. Mua ha....haaa haaaaa.... AHHHHH HAAA HAAA HAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • Mother. fucker. I love this song.....

  • it song sounds like a happy ghost town

  • One word. Masterpiece.

I wonder what exactly is the time signature on this song?

  • @WeirdOrangeStuff

I believe it rotates between 6/8 and 7/8. Except the last section is all 6/8.

  • @WeirdOrangeStuff 1986...

  • @WeirdOrangeStuff

Well, the 1st and 2nd parts have a rhythm of 3 measures of 3/4 and 1 measure of 4/4, or collectively, 13/4. The final part is straight 3/4.

  • You have to be a 80's kid to really appreciate this game and especially the music. Friday night, by yourself, you and that little square game controller. The elevator takes you down into an unknown world with the strangest of creatures. This song makes u scared to look out your bedroom window. The house is quiet. Youre scared to go into the kitchen to re-up your bowl of ice cream. Your eyes are frozen in a blinkless state wondering what comes next. I Love u Metroid.

  • @SILVABACK07 One million thumbs up!

  • @DragonAurora Ive made this song into my ringtone on my IPHONE. Its the greatest

  • @SILVABACK07 Did you shit your pants like me when that 'energy low' sound came on and you were surrounded by the beasts?. Classic!!

  • @SILVABACK07 LOL...i did. Most shitting moments came when crazy wild flying enemies attacked me

  • @SILVABACK07 Amen...almost 40 now...seems like yesterday when I was getting home at 3 am, hammered ...not heading for bed but straight for NES and Metroid...life was so easy...

  • @SILVABACK07 You just summed up my whole childhood. I love you.

  • @AICJDR lol I remember it like it was yesterday. I failed many 8th grade classes cuz of this game

  • @SILVABACK07 that is one awesome comment,it really does capture that moment in time,WELL DONE!!!

  • @SILVABACK07 . You just summed up the last week and a half of September' 88 for me SILVA. Great memories.

  • @SILVABACK07 We certainly can't get those times back anymore.

  • This is one of my favorite video game songs ever.... especially as a kid playing this at like 2am cause Mom let me stay up late during the summer.... I was scared as shit playing this level! LOL =P

  • It's so... Dischordant... It's good, but creepy at the same time...

  • This music creeps me out. It's embedded in my bones from like 20+ years ago.

  • geek time! the HARMONY of part of this tune is I believe, a bit "WHOLE-TONE"

    yesyesyes

  • this song has a lot of potential. but due to the quality and it's placement in metroid it was a problem, and it still is. but now with the zero mission version we know that the purpose of the composition was really useful. thnx "Hip" Tanaka

  • Good, but annoying music, and an even more annoying stage. The music is perfect for keeping you pissed off while getting lost in this place.

Oh, the terrible memorys of getting stuck in those holes and dying still haunt me:P

  • I think of it as switching between sections of 9/8 and 10/8, or shorter bars of 3/4 and 4/4... cool!

  • Quite possibly the most depressing rendition of Ring Around the Rosie ever written

  • Loved this tune, how mysterious and bizarre it sounds. Glad to hear this again:)

  • This is the most twisted, bizarre and amazing waltz I have ever heard.

  • Damn this game was amazing. I loved the NES and SNES.

  • I want a time machine, goddamnit.

  • Metroid invented shooter games Mega Man is just a rip off of Kirby and Samus put together

  • Aahaha no

    You mad?

  • @XMETALGEARS59X Mega Man came out 1987, Kirby came out in 1992, and got his copy ability 1993.

    It's called research.

  • @XMETALGEARS59X Metroid was Nintendo's response to MegaMan, Metroid was just unique enough and good enough that it continued on from just being an attempt at MM style gameplay.

  • @rabidcowcat65 of course, metroid was nintendo's response to a game that released a year later. they're both great games, and actually not that similar gameplaywise if you look at the main elements.

  • @CirqueDuFreak2000 lol silly me, that was what my brother told me, and i'm stupid for believing him and not checking myself. Ah well, I wouldn't know about gameplay wise entirely myself, I have never played a megaman game, it just looked like metroid going off of a trailer I saw for it.

  • @XMETALGEARS59X Kirby came out in 92, Megaman came out before that. And even then, Kirby's first game didn't have his copy ability. So Megaman was stealing powers before Kirby was.

  • i listening to this song on lsd peeling an orange...so intense...

  • @linksfiery22 niiice

  • What did Samus say to Ridley when Ridley cheated at cards?

    NORFAIR! ZING!

...Its better then Triforce on the door (D)

  • I remember when me and my buddy used to play this, epic.

  • I was born in 1975, and those NES memories are deep.......

  • @rellik187redrum HEH!! i bet you remember the first donkey cong game.

I played donkey kong in the late 80s and remember playing it,fun game.I was born in 1980 btw

  • @rellik187redrum Hell, I was born in 1985 and MY NES memories are deep!

but it must have been awesome to be old enough to remember when these games were in their prime.

  • @wilkes85 heh i was about 6 or 7 years old when i first played this game, that would have been in 1987.

I was well old enough to play and enjoy these games as a kid.

  • This music still spins inside my head... continuously...

Especially the tenderness inside this eery-theme can be clearly heard...

  • I hated this theme until I played the game and saw how epicly this fit with the game. Now I loves it :D :D :D

  • the nes entertaiment system the games of the brand are the best in sound and graphics, zeldas, marios, kid icarus, ice climber, donkey kongs, pinball, etc

  • 24 years later, still is awesome to listen to

  • Hard to believe it's been 24 years.

    O_o

  • @Lighteningzero And still going strong! :D

  • For 8-bit music this does sound surprisingly good and atmospheric. Man oh man the memories...

  • I wish I lived in 1986. :( Nowdays, everything is crap.

  • @neely47

    Uh.

    No it's not.

  • @neely47 People who say this mystify me. Games are just as good today as they were then. Just look for them.

  • @chris16447 Mhm, people always point to the crap and ignore the 800 shitty titles of our past. There's always been crappy games, but more than ever there's gems too.

  • @Triskitout

Play Planescape Torment and pleeeeaaaaase tell me which rpg, j or w, ever have come even close to the geniality of this game. Only thing which even only had a little bit of shimmering similar to this game is BG2. No rpg, j or w, since ever even lived through to the comparisson to BG2.

  • I think this song has a definite atmosphere to it that makes it better than the Brawl version on different occasions. For an intense, shocking and wierd moment, I go with Brawl; for something daunting, disturbing, and haunting, this version is better.

  • Oh good old 8 bit music never gets old!!

  • Timeless classic Metroid:Norfair theme for all time.

  • On my opinion, this song is better in slow motion. Old memories...

  • Not the kind of song that would work in any series other than Metroid, but somehow it still comes off as incredibly catchy and fitting.

  • You have to enter JUSTIN BAILEY and then ------ ------ and it will give you Samus without suit, wave beam, screw attack, and 205 missles in Norfair.

  • My favorite part is 0:16 to 0:26.

  • Yes, mine too! Only I'd make it from 0:16 to 0:36.

  • what does it say in the left corner next to the falling character? never noticed it before.. great game :)

  • It's the icon for adventure series

  • oh, cool.

  • This song reminded me of some boring dance steps.

  • i have a blanket of samus in 8bit which owns.

  • this level sucked

  • Wonder where Justin Bailey is now...

  • Right now, Justin Bailey is thinking:

    "Remembah me?"

  • who is justin bailey ?

  • Just In Bailey. dont quote me on this but a bailey is an australian diving suit, so samus is just using a bailey. again im not exactly sure.

  • @TheF1PinkVoltaDream

actually the word "bailey" for an diving suit don't even exist.

It's was pure luck that "words" gave such password. The suitless samus was given if you passed the game with the BEST ending and then start a new game. An password to start an NEW game with suitless samus is: 000000 000020 000000 000020, don't belive me? try it. ;)

  • lol... i think ... but i'm not sure.. .but I think justin bailey is a password for metriod for the nes .. it made it so samus had no suit or something.. maybe google it?! lol

  • i love norfair because it had a LIFESAVING energy tank!!

  • The previous comment was related to m3dion's opinion of the 'Zero Mission' version of this song. BTW, try piping your old NES tunes through a reverb/delay and maybe some slight vibrato...it really makes em come alive.

  • ke kopado!!!

  • If I could only be that boy again for one more day...

  • Nobody talks about old games or old music these days. If I said I loved Metroid, my class would laugh at me and call me a nerd.

  • And that sucks, becaus Metroid pwns.

  • well screw them because none of them will ever have the skills to beat metroid, if it wasn't for this game, games like halo, dead space and all these alien-based games would have never caught on if metroid wasn't popular

  • Exactly.

  • tell them to f*** off, because metroid is awesome

  • About that, m3dion, i've actually had the guts to say that (I'm in 5th grade) and so all of the boys said to me "Ha-HA! nerd (they are right i am a nerd), you probably haven't played Halo 3, also the Best game EVA!" So that's why i'm the most hated person in my class. But know that i look at their report cards, the Halo fans happen to have C's, D's,and F's while i see the straight A's on mine. METROID ALL THE WAY!!!

  • My favourite part of the music is at 0:16 seconds to 0:26 seconds.

  • nothing can beat the brinstar theme but this does go with the level really well. and being a release game for nes, it is pretty fucking old!

  • Zero Mission kind of ruined the song, they made it too serious. This is the best version.

  • I agree. The 2A03 PSG blippy and spacey charm made it more genuine in my opinion and without taking away from the game atmosphere at all. It's more relaxing.

  • on my breaks I would play this on the Wii....then walking to class I couldn't get this damn song outta my head....sucked....but good (classic) track

  • it fits with the Nofair background

  • The music is good and relaxing, but not as addicting as the "samus arrives" or the "brinstar" themes.

  • yeah, hard to believe this game is over 20 years old.. :\

  • I just played Metroid yesturday & said, "Why wasn't I born in 1986?"

  • I was, and I'm having a tattoo done with Samus and a metroid, all in 8-bit graphics of course :D

  • @RoyboyX You'd have to be born in '81 like me to fully enjoy it at the proper age. But you're right, the game were way better back in the day. This 16-button controller shit is vexating!!!!

  • @Sugglife -- yea dead right

  • @RoyboyX

HEEH i played it when i was new and remember it,AAAH THE MEMORIES!!

  • @RoyboyX Nineteen eighty six? You'd be too young to appreciate it.

  • @Tehploe I was born in 1985, and I love Metroid. It's one of my favourite games.

Legend of Zelda is my absolute favourite though.

  • @RoyboyX I was born in 1983 and didn't start playing video games until like 1989. So I was a few years late on this game, but it was still one of the first NES games I ever played. Batman for the Nes was another one. Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, & 3, Megaman 3, Double Dragon 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1, 2 & 3 for the Nes. I wish I could go back in time to when I was 7 years old.

  • @RoyboyX

because you'd be a 1 year-old baby when Metroid came to America

  • @pervysage35 Fail

  • @RoyboyX *sigh* Why couldn't we all be born back when gaming was excellent, not just good, but classical.

    ;(

  • @fourstar7 i was born in 87 a good time for gaming. damn im getting old

  • @fourstar7

.... Not really. You can easily see this game has aged.... Don't get me wrong, it's a classic and I've beaten it several times actually, but you gotta admit, you can see this game is old. It's been remade, afterall.

  • this is a must have mp3. bout to get the flash and convert it..... thank you.

  • I wish it was 1986. :(

  • I know, right! Then the stupid kids in my grade wouldn't be talkin' about the stupid m-rated games like stupid halo. Metroid PWNs them all.

  • This music is so addicting. I'll actually be whistling this and people will ask "What are you whistling?" and i'll say "Norfair from Metroid." And they say, "Nerd!" But i don't care, Metroid fucking rocks!

  • This game was ahead of it's time with it's non-linear gameplay, but it annoys me when people say a game is ahead of it's time just because it's a good game.

  • Good that they remixed this for Brawl, bad that they didn't add Magmoor Caverns/Lower Norfair!

  • I didn't like this track as much as Kraid's level, but it was still good.

  • Such a simple, yet memorable tune.

  • The graphics on this level were incredibly creepy, and oringinal. This music fits it perfectly. Wow, the ultamate game.

  • what a great post brings back memories

  • I love this song so much... had it stuck in my head for days........ and now it's going to be again.

    Damnit.

  • You don't find many 3/4-time songs in games.

This version has a more irregular and jarring rhythm, with the odd rest beat between each phrase, than the rearrangement in Zero Mission, which has two. More jarring and unsettling is exactly what you want in a Norfair tune, IMHO.

  • I'd call this a slow 13/8, but if it weren't for that extra rest thrown in, I'd have no problem calling it 3/4.

    Now Kraid's lair, that's definitely 3/4! :)

  • That's true for the first two sections, but the third section is straight 3/4.

  • Fair enough. :)

  • everytime I would hear this music in Norfair I always imagined a secret agent sneaking around somewhere

  • James Bond on nintendo haha

  • lol, such a cartoon tiptoe sneak around song

  • i like it.

  • Very atonal and weird music. Gives me goosebumps :-)

  • This peice I thought always had a mysterious but laid back vibe to it.

  • I always found it odd that Norfair, one of the earliest areas you find in the game, was actually the most complex and confusing. I think a lot of people a put off Metroid because of Norfair's repeated corridors that were designed to get players lost. However, in retrospect, I think Norfair is brilliant. You never feel more lost in the game then you do in this labyrinth, and that was its intention from the start.

  • wow... big difference between this and zm version, yet almost the same, I don't know I just find it cool

  • i first hated this song but now i got a bass and a electric guitar for a long time im trying to play as much music i can. wich includes game music. i played this on my bass and i felt so good. im going to learn to lead on my guitar as fast as i can.

  • I could listen to this track for hours. It's soothing. good times playing nintendo with big bro and sis.

  • I still hum to this music in Elementary school to my adult-hood today. This is a classic Metriod :Norfair theme for all times....Memories =)

  • The new 'remix' in brawl is very cool aswell.

  • I play this game sometimes on a cold winters night in my living room with the lights out and the fireplace on. The music goes really well with the atmosphere

  • @KazuyaKane i wish i could thumbs up this comment a bunch of times

  • @jdspencer60

haha, thanks! I forgot i posted it cause it was 2 yrs ago. :)

  • this track was ahead of its time, just as the game was. Lower Norfair on SNES is th
