Most teenagers take drugs because the media has led them to believe it's what all young people do. Of course this isn't true. If you are smoking weed and gettin pissed up at 16, you are heading for a very grim future indeed. I was in hebden last week, and saw very many drunk youths who looked as though they had totally lost their way in life. Not cool.
its a gr8 place but when i went there as a traveller in my bus everywhere i stayed i got hassle off police wardens etc,sad that a town known for its laid back ness is so uptight abt travellers.
This is a message to Shootthru - there IS a response, go to Step 2 on Bridgegate, its open every night, stuff to do, computers, outings, sports. The film was great and so its this film. And a big-up to Yvonne who was so honest sharing her experiences of similar problems in Windemere.
I was at a screening of "Shed Your Tears And Walk Away" in the PictureHouse,Hebden tonight.Unfortunately due to time restrictions, Under The Bridge was sadly not shown.Everything the council promised, following the massive wave of publicity that UTB started, has not happened, nothing has changed, people continue to die due to drink and drugs. We have a SERIOUS problem here that needs to be highlighted.Congratulations to the directors of both films and I hope we can make more publicity for this

@MadmanJoE100 obvioulsy mad man joe yr one of the fuckwits that live in the shit hole of hebden and ive met a few people of the shitty hoel so i do know what im on about
hebden is the most chilled place ever and anyone who lives there or hasd lived will understand, people who are commenting chatting shit about how its the young generations fault are wrong, hebden has a long history of drinking and drugs but thats probably why there so relaxed about these things.
thing is what gets me, they say in big cities or places near cities "oh there's nothing to do" I would love to live near a place with entertainment in cities and actual shops, and even a better buses. Where i live the most frequent bus is every our to a place with not that many shops even.
I visit this place loads i never knew that all this was going on, i just thought it was a bohemian hippy town , I hear rumour that there is also a large lesbian community.
Many great things are said about Hebden including tale of the famous but incredibly rare badgers eggs but this short film kinda outlines the first negative aspect of the place.
I moved out of Hebden as it is over run with thick ignorant teenagers. Beautiful place, but a revolting demographic spoiling the place. Ignorant, lazy-minded scum.
I grew up in Hebden Bridge and the only reason the kids are bored is their own lack of imagination and bad parenting. Whilst I agree there is a big problem in Hebden Bridge (one of the reasons I'm glad I no longer to live there) I think the journalism was exceptionally sloppy, prompting participants to give answers that supported the views of the interviewer, and then jumping to sloppy conclusions such as "it's the council's fault".
I live in Leeds where there is "everything" to do, and to be honest all the events in this video are commonplace here too. Drug "culture" extends in Leeds to kids much younger than 12! What I want to know is if H.Bridge is a place where you can walk & shop freely, or if gangs of feral, illiterate kids cause vandalism & violence everywhere - or just in certain areas & at certain times. Is it normal to be abused in the street or for cars and properties to be regularly trashed? Thanks.
Having lived in one of the roughest areas of leeds , and growing up near Hebden Bridge - i can say "yes !" You can walk , shop , drink or go out for a meal in Hebden without violence and vandalisim. And "no" you wont get gangs of feral on the loose. Yes you get a lot of teens drinking ect in the park , i used to do it myself at that age ! But on the whole , its just normal teenage rebellion. I go out in Hebden Bridge and it feels very safe to me. Nice town,
to "simonzon" = Where i live now i wont go to the shop at night alone as i get abused in street by 12 yr olds! Thats Halifax . Im moving soon and looking at Heb Bridge/Calder Valley - so much nicer.
Hebden is a unique little town, Yes it has its drink and drug probs , and while Hebden bridge is a party town , and has teens getting pissed n high , Its not half as bad as some places these days
There is a real "community" in Hebden that you just dont find in a lot of places these days.
I like Hebden Bridge, I think there is a lot to do, and its well
organised. There is loads of bands with an open door policy.
Hebden Bridge Hand made parade (Samba) as an example I have been inspired to Start a Djembi group in Bacup/Shawforth. Here is a town that lost almost everything. The council is trying to close the Leisure hall, No parade, No swimming pool, No picture house Lots of boarded up shops.
ke any small town or village, facilities for teenagers are becoming a lot harder to fund due to the lack of numbers attending places that was once provided..but the burning question is "Do the teeenagers of HB really want a youth club"? The answer likes so many other answers from the towns of Britain is NO..teens are happier hanging out than having to conform to rules set by a institute
Hebden is no different to most places regarding drink and drugs, you say more facilities are needed but do not suggest anything. How ridiculous for these people to suggest it is the councils fault that they choose to spend all their money on drugs and booze to get out of their heads every week. The facilities that are available, they never use.
How about stop whinging and start making the most of the area, it is a beautiful place - make the most of it.
ok first of all can i just remind you that this documentary was made for an a level exam, therefore we had a limited time of 5 minutes. if we had an unlimited time then maybe we would of answered more questions, suggested more ideas and interviewed more people to get a more even result, however we didnt and so we only included what would get us our grade......
.........secondly what are these facilities that they do not use? the skatepark that people from all over use every day, basketball courts they play in, the cinema that only shows films that have already been out for a month, the trades that once popular, now turns away any young events, the youth club that shut down - why has there not been any effort in re opening an improved one. i dont deny hebden isnt a beautiful, unique town but what do you want everyone to do? sit back and watch it?
i think these kids should stop complaining and gedda grip ! i grew up here and still live here and not once did i drink on the streets and certainly didnt do drugs ! there is loads to do they just are happier causing a riot on the streets and my children wont be getting into this culture here neither ! it has a lot to do with the parents , its out town that you are spoiling !! there is plenty to do !! stop manipulating locals and grow up!
Re - Bus shelter graffiti, Nicely executed and made people stop / tut / shake heads / tut again. Watched vid, So what would young people like to see happen in Hebden so they can (Legaly) have a good time, if thats what they want?! Lets hear some ideas.
i would like a north shore bike course and a downhill track in the woods. loads of mountianbikers visit the bridge and it would be nice to provide some professional trails. also along the side of the river on the park some jumps made for bikes. there is my imput. what do you think??

The town I'm in is full of it and you wouldnt ever say Oldham or Ashton were ever 'bohemian'...

"all we've got is a skate park and a basketball court"
all Stainland has was a massive amount of hill to throw yourself down and a set of swings.
get a grip and put the Tennants down. your failings are your own why should the council better you
