Are you just stupid or truly ignorant bjarnik? Have you ever actually seen a "Jeep"? For gods sake learn what is and is not a bloody Jeep! Just because its got four wheels and is off road does NOT make it a "Jeep"!
What the hell are you talking about. Yes a Jeep with a big 'J' is the brand, but a jeep with a lower 'j' is a jeep.
Jeep:
1. a small, rugged military motor vehicle having four-wheel drive and a 1 / 4 -ton capacity: widely used by the U.S. army during and after world War II.
2. a similar vehicle used by civilians. <--this –verb
3. ( lowercase ) to ride or travel in a jeep. <-- or this thing! An off-road vehicle, bigger than a streetcar, generally a 4x4 but not always so. Lighten up!
@seltjorn1 Your definition of a "jeep" is taken from a US world war 2 army manual. Just admit it you are wrong.
You have no idea what you are talking about. A Land Rover is NOT a Jeep!
The word jeep comes from "GP" = General Purpose vehicle, as used by the Americans. Lovely people the Americans, but they don't speak "British English". Have a nice day. ;-)
I took the definition from a number of online dictionaries, including the Cambridge one (not directly). Yes, the word jeep comes from "GP" but it's also used by millions of people on daily basis, perhaps not in the UK but still in the US, Germany, France, Italy and more. It's a slang.
Still, there is no reason for you to call people stupid or ignorant for using it since it's generally accepted as a word/slang for this type of vehicle in many countries. Good day, sir.
@seltjorn1 It's not accepted as slang in the UK. A Jeep is a Jeep and a Land Rover is a Land Rover. Your use of the "Cambridge" dictionary is wrong as their definition describes what a Jeep "is", NOT what Jeeps "are".
@G6PBS Allright dude, I'ma give you a history lesson about the word "Jeep" in the Icelandic language. In WW2 the British & Americans brought "GPs" (Geepees) to Iceland, and they gained the nickname "Jeep" and "Jeppi" by the Icelandic people, it was not a BRAND name, but a TYPE name, "Jeep" & "Jeppi" in Icelandic literally translates to "Truck" in English. When you hear an Icelandic person talking about a "Jeep" they are talking about a "Truck", unless otherwise specified.
@theundeh That being said, you are an incredibly rude person, yeah, the uploader translated the word "jeep" wrong to the English audience, big fucking deal, no need to call him stupid for it.
@theundeh Gotcha! A Land Rover is NOT a truck so there. Besides I don't speak Icelandic so whatever you guys in Iceland call a Land Rover/Truck/Jeep etc is entirely up to you. You have a nice day there :-)
@seltjorn1 alright to be fair G6PBS uhh have you ever seen the Formula icelandic jeep races they have there?
But they are not A JEEp they would be considered an SUV (sport utility vehicle) A jeep is its own thing there is no comparison to Jeep especially in America. Old saying Is My jeep won a war Your honda mows my lawn... Sums up how Americans feel about there Jeeps.
The most recent record in frost was in 2003 or 2004 in Þingvellir area when it dropped to -33°C in november with windshell up to 23 - 30 m/ps (meters per sec) that was the worst day, but most usually it doesn't get much colder than -20°C and in Reykjavík most common is -10°C - -13°C with rare exceptions in 2006 and 2008 when dropped to -19°C hope this gives you some idea how it is
