I found a different solution! Make two skinny triangles that are connected, making a big triangle with both together. Then, using last two matchsticks, make a point sticking out on one side then... viola! You have four triangles!
and the video i was on about is in vid responses :P, the first puzzle in the video is the similar one to this puzzle. (the answer to it would be an answer to this puzzle too)
easy make 2 triangles, and take the right hand match of one of them and put it over the bottom match of the same traingle, this makes a 4 shape, making it say, 4 ( then a triangle)

Simple. Put one down the middle of the current triangle, and use the other two to make the other point of the triangle

you can also make a 2nd triangle and lay it backwards on the first, making a Star of David which has 6 triangle in it.
