I was in Alameda on that day, surfing in my living room which looked like waves going down the middle of the floor, then running to the door and watching a couple of two story high cement pillars shake like wet noodles on the house next door. They just can't capture what it really looks like on film, it does way more than shake.
I was crossing the parking lot to get to that record store that is across from the mall on 41st ave. There is a fast food burger chain next to it and a show store on the other side. I left santa cruz in 2000 so cant remember the store names too well. That quake ripped santa cruz apart. Downtown will never be the same.
i was only two years old. i don't remember anything. my mom said she was watching the world series at home when the whole apartment swayed and the tv shut off. we lived in the valley so it wasn't as damaging.
I was at work waiting to get off, I saved my coworkers life, she was almost crushed by a huge falling bookcase filled with medical records. I remember going down the stairs of the very old office building and the walls were all cracked.
I got pieces of my smashed dresser mirror in my foot when I got home and had to have surgery . . . oh the memories
I was on the base at Alameda. What I saw and went through the next 19 days was life changing and I don't go a single day in my life without seeing some very graphically tragic images in my mind. I'm grateful for those who were saved. They became my lifeline.
it was a tuesday so i was at school... never experienced earthquake... once it was close but i was on another island trying to not experienced poisonous scolopendre, so i miss it... it was in 1995...
I was in a Politics class at UC Santa Cruz when the room started shaking. I went under my desk and watched the lights and a TV that was mounted to the wall try to pull loose, while the professor, under his desk, kept saying, "Quite a shaker. Quite a shaker." When it ended, I shook the plaster dust out of my hair and took my seat, and then it started again.
I think you were probably 9 hrs ahead with this video, but that's good since you would have to shoot it in middle of the night to match the original time zone. Hard to believe that it's been 18 yrs. since the "big one"......Mother Nature's own "rock & roll".........And the entire nation got to see it since they were tuned in for the World Series.
Well I was in the restroom taking a big'o chunk of shit after some bad tacos ;D

´89 .. oh gosh .. you got to be kidding me :P
i could only make wild guesses based on the circumstances of that time ..
but i like the idea .. would be cool to have a few people exchange stories of what they did at a specific time. they just need to remember :P
