Could it be a bad lead to the spark plug. If you could rev up the motor at night you may see some sparking at niight from the wire to ground. Just a thought, I would also be pissed with that nice. Nice car though. Good luck.
so heres an update on my car. it now has 25k on it. first heard the tick at 9k. Ford finally oked some work. dealership had it for 3 days and replaced all the timing chain componets, lifters and cam phasers. Drove it home and still had the tick. not sure what the next step is but im not a happy camper. if anyone has any info on this please email me back.
i get a noise from my car too but its hard to explain. in second when i give it some gas and then cruise after, i hear a rattle like something is loose. it doesnt happen all the time so its hard to catch it on video.. its is a subtle squeak.
So heres an update for everyone....Theyve had my car for 5 days and the best thing they can come up with is that its part of the break in process and should go away after a few thousand miles. They said ford has heard of this and is looking into it but theyve been noticing it after the second oil change. They have no fix for it and doesnt see it harming the motor...The dealership told me to run 5000k between oil changes . I have just ovedr 10k on it now so well see at the 15k service.
So my 2011 has "the tick". Mine doesnt do it at idle you have to rev it up to about 1000 rpm and will continue to do it till 2000prm. Its at the dealership now and has been there for 2 days. You can really hear it good in first gear just barely giving it gas. Im hoping for the best. Ill put up a new post if they pin point the problem.
I must say all the vehicles I've owned I've never ever floored it until 3000 miles and I never did a top speed run until 5000 miles. I'm sure it is new technology that needs to be worked out but anyone who decides they wants to romp there new stangs be patient and wait until the motors are broke in.
Dam that sucks, but it a new motor and new technology so kinks need to be worked out. Keep us posted as to recalls or if the sound comes back after it gets fixed.
Ive seen a few of these. Response from ford sofar in the cases ive seen was to replace the engine. I would be looking into enforcing that warranty a little more aggressively.
Maybe the dealer that you bought the car from, ran the piss out of it, or other people test driving it possibly? How many miles were on it when you bought it?
Its possible it might be that variable cam kicking in to overdrive. Maybe you should try flashing the computer and make the engine relearn the idling characteristics
I'm not trying to trash talk anyone, but I would definately be taking that to a different dealership or to a real mechanic.. With the inconsistant ticks, it is not engine or mechanical related.. If it were valve train, it would be a constant tick and have more of a metal on metal contact hit rather then the hiss that I get from the vid..
@blackpony7 it does sound like metal on metal when you hear it in person and it seems to be coming from the front of the motor just under the valve cover...this motor has variable cam and valve timing so i am thinking it is something to do with the cam phasers. the dealership called me and told me that there is going to be a TSB soon that will add a belt tensioner to the motor. not convinced that this will fix my issue though.
@blackpony7 they put the sniffer on it and determined it is not an exhaust leak. i have taken it to the dealership 3 times now and still have the tick.
Sounds like a lash adjustment, maybe not even a replacement. This may be a good time to learn how to change cams...Comp Cams should be ready soon. I sent you a message. I've tuned my 2011 way out and added a Steeda CAI. It's crazy fast now - faster than any stock GT500. I've got a very quite tick from 2000 to 2300. If they tell me the warranty is void at the dealership I will put in cams and replace the lash adjusters myself...it may be a 2-weekend job. Were can we get tech manuals?
@wproctor411 Lol you wish you were faster than a stock GT500 a tune a cai helps alot on the new 5.0s but your still ganna get walked when the shelby gets traction.Ask me how i no.
I hear a noise but not that loud. I only hear it under hard acceleration from 2000 to 2300 rpm, which may be from knocking from bad fuel, running 110 octane low-lead. I've already tuned my 2011 added a Steeda CAI, sitting at 385 rwhp, plan on adding a bottle-o- Nitrous. No too worried about the warranty. It's not my daily driver. If all else fails I will replace the lash adjusters myself....sounds like a long weekend and a good chance to learn how to change out the cam shafts.
Ugh, that sucks, follow some of the boards on various forums, hopefully a solution will be found soon, someone has identified the oil filter internal spring on motorcraft branded oil filters to be the possible culprit making that sound. good luck and keep us posted.
Yeah thats not normal.

@filtercharger there are a bunch of folks complaining about this issue...it usually starts or gets a ton worse after the first oil change

@jweems10 I hope mine doesn't do that when I change the oil! I wasn't gonna wait until the recommended 10k interval, I'm planning on doing it at 5k
