Thanks for showing me a way how traditional animation is done. I was really curious how animators maintain consistency between frames. Overlaying the sheets explains how that can be made easier.
make an isometric view walk cicle for a game character, it need have an front and back straight up and straight down versions..DAMN so many work, its hard to keep it alike in all different views
Something I was wondering, if you have a stationary object that still has complex movement(hair blowing in wind) do you also draw the stages to one paper before you start? In those types of animations it becomes hard to see the spacing. I ask this because I'm trying to pull off a whip motion to a character's hair and it becomes difficult when I try to to picture the spacing in the in-betweens. I have so far drawn the stages to a piece of paper bent from the middle.
@Dinoslay I think i would draw some lines that would represent different strands of hair.and have those react to the 'wind'. In the second stage i would draw their volume. I almost always do the movement first and volume later. I can't focus on both at the same time.
@studiojulio Your very talented. I'm also an artist who wants to one day bring back popular traditional drawn anination. This really help since I draw animated animals and humans. Could you show us how to draw aniamted cartoons. I still need to learn more on art so I can get ready for an art college.
Where can I get this stuff? Cant seem to find a animation ruler on ebay.. or the light table.. also, where would you get the paper that fits the animation ruler?
@BlueMaroonSS I'm planning on making a couple of more tutorials including how to sync your audio with your footage or vice versa. I'm sure other people would like to know it as well.
@redsxncubs23 that all depends on the kind of animation. But you can calculate the amount of frames by doing 24x60x5. If your framerate is 24 you'l have 7200 frames. But that doesn't mean you made 7200 drawings.
@BattleHardned1000 I had a camera on a tripod pointing to the drawings, and I used a program called take5 to capture the images. There are a lot of programs that you can use to capture your drawings. I also know people who scan their drawings but imo it's more time consuming.
You lot? I'll give you several different programs you can use, Adobe Flash Professional, final cut pro, windows movie maker, and here's one more, that you can use to edit afterwards, Sony Vegas 7
But can you make another no-audio video, but show what happens after you put the paper down and draw the first frame? I can't seem to find any here on YouTube. Do you remove each paper slide??
@Nightraven117 You can use any kind of paper. The thickness influences the amount of overlaping drawings you can see at once.In the tutorial I used regular paper.
for a light table i was considering just using a floresant lamp and a piece of glass dont know how im going to jimmy rig it together quite yet tho. ;)
say i cant find animation paper in my limeted small community's stores... would tracing paper work just as good? and say i cant find tracing paper.. as a last resort would computer paper work at all? thanks in advance.
where would i find a light table and the paper?? oh and the ruler? im wanting to go into a graphic designing career of animations and 2d animations is a step to being one. so where can i find these materials. does hobby lobby have em??
I started animation ( by myself) and I had some timing problem. So my question is: If I want some one who is walking normaly can you give me some key for how many drawing I'll have to do for my guy walk well? I mean not to fast or to slow. Or I keep 24 draw per second? Oh also I think that is very helpful video you have done.
@MayBellez02 Most animations run at 24 frames but are done in pairs of 2 frames. So you only draw 12 of the 24 to get typical animation quality. Take a look at the wikipedia animation page.
i try animating butits just to hard because i cantt find tracing paper anywhere and i dont have a light table so its stupid, i have to animate on my window, any suggestions? :(
@theWudgeMeister It all depends on what you are doing. I usually just use A4 print paper and make the holes at school. If you use a lighttable you'l probably just see 3-4 drawings under it (60to80gram paper). But if you use thiner paper, you'l be able to see more drawings. Thiner paper is more expensive though.
@TheTechTrekShow The one on the video is selfmade. There are alot of tutorials on youtube on how to make your own. And there are alot of art & crafts stores that sell light tables. Hope this helps.
(I might also post a video on how to make your own soon as there are more people asking about it as well.)
@TheTechTrekShow there are certain software packages that allow you to edit and move frames around. You should check out my video How to animate with clay' for more information on that.
The ruler I bought at school, the light table is self made. I'm sure you could get these things in an arts & crafts store. If not you can always do a google search to see if you can find any online stores.
Thank you for this !!.....I have begun work on an animatiion project but I dont have any software for it and everything is about animating with software. Now I just got to figure out the tools and how to get the animation to run fluidly.
I have a question. What is the name of your animation ruler?

@studiojulio Thanks, I'll try that. The movement and it's spacing obviously comes first. There's a certain order to it.

um I have this sketch pad (tracing pad) that will enable me to see right through the previous drawing. Would that b ok instead of that light table?
and how can I put this on the computer?
enchanteDREAMer01 4 months ago
this video is fantastic, did you study this at a school and if yes which school?
howva 4 months ago
Why don't you use bottom peg holes? In other words, stick the pegbar at the bottom of your drawing area. It's easier to flip that way.
TheCelebritoons 4 months ago
I'd like to try this. But quick question, you might be able to answer, how many drawings, would you estimate, would it take for a 5 minute video?

Could you elaborate on what you exactly mean?
Do you mean drawing on paper or using the paper itself?

on paper than all those animation softwares on the computer (even if i use flash cs4) because then you know they put a LOT OF work on it.
