I think John has alot to accomodate to and learn. I've seen him alot and I think it will be a year or two before he really shines.
I'm not sad that Tavares is gone...I'm sad that Carlson, Del Zotto, Erlich, Arrson, Taylor and everyone except Knight and possibly Yovanic have left the team. I disliked how everyone saw Tavares and no one else. It's called a TEAM.

I think he and other new signings will help rebuild the islander. They have a pretty gd roster this season so im sure they will do a lot better.
Lots of arguing going on here about crosby. Personally I like him but I think hes a lazy player, he only gets lots of points cos hes surrounded by other great players. I dont think he works/skates as hard as he should. If you put him in a bad team he would stuggle. I like Ovechkin tho, he works hard and earns his points

He will definitely have more of an impact than Stamkos did on the Lightning, they still have Vinny. Isles are gonna rake in a lot more national tv time and there are going to be a lot more viewers too of their games. People love watchin first picks, especially with his talent.

They overpaid for Gabby BADLY. They gave Gabby two million more than Hossa is getting and Hossa is a PROVEN 50+ goal scorer. Gaborik has YET to play more than 65 games a season going on 5 years straight. The guy always gets the same injury..........pulled groin/s. Bad enough he can't take the pain and has to be put on the IR. Only, it's worse at MSG than in Minny, because the ice at MSG SUCKS because they rip it up for the circus and concerts etc. They are going to take it up the ass with Gabby.

Higgins was the only thing I wasn't happy about, Higgins is a solid player who I wanted back on the Island for a long, long time. I went to school with his older brother and his entire family are proven athlete's.
Montreal was STTTTTTUUUPPIDDDD for trading Higgins. But then again, look at the players they have now......Redden, Drury(when is the last time you heard his name?) Naslund(such a horrible season he quit altogether). Their superstars from other teams.......suck on the Rangers.

The Leafs took a very cheap shot at a key player of ours back then. That does not excuse the booing of the Anthem and I do think that the booing was wrong.
As far of the "shadow" you mentioned, yes, for a long time the Isles have been in the shadow of the Rangers. This upcoming hockey season... just wait. If not then, at least within a few years the New York Islanders will be casting a very big shadow over the Rangers.

I was a huge fan of Mike Bossey, and to me -- the Islanders are a more 'storied franchise' because of the teams Bossey was on.
The booing started earlier than Tucker's hit on Peca. It was poor timing because Canadian soldiers had just died in Afganistan, and it was front page news here.
