So what if it takes time? Ever hear the phrase, "The longest journey begins with a single step." before? Well just because that it will take time doesn't mean you shouldn't start. That Ellis is an idiot. Blame Detroit?
Ellis is an idiot. Drilling does provide a hedge against traders betting on futures of oil. The longer we wait to drill, the more speculation is going to drive costs up. Even if supply does not increase in 5 years, the price of oil based on speculation would be lower. Everyone who votes against more oil production or off-shore drilling is going to have their rear end kicked out of congress.
Ellis is such a douche bag. Because of high gas prices some Americans can't afford to maintain there cars let alone buy new cars with better gas mileage. If we lift the ban on offshore drilling we would see a drop in gas prices tomorrow and we'd be getting oil in less than a year. I like how Ellis does nothing but call the Bush administration incompetent then uses there statistics to justify not drilling. And of course he wants not only government give aways but corporate give aways also.

But our energy policy has been screwed up since Carter and gets worse with every Democrat's signing of bills. Need a Congress who will act on market principals and exploit OUR OWN RESOURCES, not4China
You blame shit constantly on Democrats, but the economy has always sucked under Republicans. Reagan, Bush Sr. and Jr. It sucks now and everyone hates Bush. It sucked during his dad and he lost reelection. Reagan had a recession.
Oil didn't start jumping up until the Pelosi Democrats took office. Now they are telling the little people "up yours" learn to live with it.
10 years for oil...how about 30 years for these alternative energy programs to start making some progress but they really don't replace the oil industry. What a joke.
When they say "we need to drill more," what they're really pushing is the oil companies desire to open up the coast to more profitable offshore drilling.
The US on-shore oil reserves are 53 billion barrels--on-shore drilling should be expanded, but the oil companies don't want it because most of those reserves are not on land they own.
The corporate media and corporate-owned politicians are merely pusing their profit agenda, as usual, with no regard for the needs of the people.
"Quit driving those SUVs" Ellis? I live in a state where 3/4 of the roads are unpaved and we get several feet of snow each winter. If there were a way for me to buy a car that had excellent fuel economy, 4WD or AWD, the ground clearance of an SUV and was sturdy enough not to get beat to shit on rutted and washboarded dirt roads, I would have done it already as would my neighbors.
Get a grip, nitwit. There are millions of us who do not live in cities.
Who the hell are you to tell anyone what kind of automobile they need? No matter where I live, I am gonna drive the car I want to, and you can just take your opinion about it and shove it up your ass right next to your lib brain!
America needs to be as influential in the Global oil market as we are a victim of it. The only way to do so is to become the worlds largest supplier, which we can do. Whether it takes 10 years to come on line, or we sell it outside our borders makes no difference.
We were the worlds largest supplier of oil. In 1970. As much as we have discovered since then, as advanced as our rigs are, using the latest seismic technology- we have not been able to produce as much oil as we did in 1970. Today we produce half of what we did back then. Becoming the worlds largest supplier is not realistic. We have neither the capital or the natural resources with which to do it.
As soon as we start throwing our weight around in the oil market, world 'public opinion' will go down again and the whiney world view crowd will get excited and then the Dems in congress will cave to the imagined pressure. We need some American Backbone in charge up in DC
We're not going to drill our way out of this problem. If we could, I'd say "Put an oil rig in my front yard!" The problem is much more complicated than that. We will be in steady decline in oil production no matter what we do. We'll drill- we have to. But the only permanent solution is conservation and renewables. Act today as if gas is $15/gallon and invest the $10+ in renewables. When the price spikes- you be ready for it.
We can. actually drill our way out of it. Even though most of our oil comes from Canada and Mexico, OPEC still controls enough oil production to effect the market. If we take a strong stance, they will listen to us. Threaten to become as big a factor in the global supply as OPEC, and they will crank the spigots open, lowering the price.
I also think its funny how some of you are calling Ellis a republican and some of you are calling him a democrat. Anyone who disagrees with you is the opposite party?
she got yelled at by people who subliminally gave her no forum to speak. the conservative was in the studio, she wasn't. the conservative is throwing massive, right-wing ideas into the conversation and simply dismissing anything she has to say. it's fucking FOX, come on.
I noticed the lady mentioned the oil shale without actually saying it, why? Probably because oil shale costs a lot of money to extract compared to existing world prices. This whole domestic drilling nonsense is just a partisan election year prank.
Actually, metro... the high price of oil has made oil shale affordable to extract. Anything over $80.00 per barrel and oil shale is suddenly very attractive. But if we were able to use our own supplies, the jackasses on the left would lose a little more control over the little people and we just can't have that, can we?
The actual price of oil on the basis of supply and demand is only about $75/barrel. The price is almost double that from speculation and the fact the dollar is very weak right now. We pay more because our dollar buys less, plus concern about war in the middle-east. US reserves are inadequate to put a dent in the supply & demand part of the equation, and also does nothing for the strength of dollar. There are refining issues now which have nothing to do with oil supply.
Amen, I think the Democratic Congress must think the American people are naive and stupid if they don't realize the people realize they are the most to blame! Way to bring it out.
