  • Yet anouther great video!

  • Thank You so much for the video! I really appreciate you taking the time to explain this beautiful engines history. Not many people realize that each and every steam locomotive is an important part of our American history and each one has a story to tell! This one has one of the most important stories to tell!

  • @DutchBantamLover Thanks for the wonderful comment! That's why I love making my history videos I have some on the Virginia & Truckee you may like also.

  • Three GS engines survive

    GS-4 #4449

    GS-6 #4460

    GS-8 #819

  • It is not mention of the time in 1984 where the SP 4449 went to New Orleans for the Worlds Fair. I have posted a video I took on VHS of the 4449 on Youtube running through Palmdale California around June 1984 when it was on it's way to N. O. la. It staid in the Union station overnight in Los Angeles on it's journey to N. O.

  • @RathbunDan thank you for pointing this this out I did have a lot of time to get all the facts I needed because I to to it in for a school project. Im going to have to check out your video now!

  • Can anyone link me a picture of 844 with the Southern Pacific lettering on the tender?

  • Isn't funny to think that every famous steam locomotive operating today (except 844) was nothing more than a big statue in a city park at one time?

  • @LNERMallard not frisco 1522 or frisco 1630 and southern 4501 (which is being overhauled and coming back in service)

  • it doesn't matter what paint she's in, she is a sexy locomotive!

  • @trainguy3 true dat! :)

  • oaks park dared to NEGLECT care for the locomotive. and some idiots vandalized it and stole parts from it. >:(

  • i wanna cry when i see that engine all rusty like that ;(

  • GP49PHS

Well, knowing that she's nowhere near that condition now should help you feel better.

  • @SierraRailway yes it does, but now ilook at the 4460: the only SP GS6 class left... this vid makes me think about it ;( I will never be happy till it's restored

  • @GP49PHS Class GS-6 was foisted on Southern Pacific management by the U. S. Railroad Administration during the war, when fast freight was first priority; she got 73-1/2" drivers rather than the 80" of the preceding five classes. Potentially the New York Central could have developed a Class S3a from the GS-6 for the Commodore Vanderbilt and Advance Commodore to replace the overtaxed 4-6-4 Alco Class J4a's.

  • What's are the name of the music you put in the video?

  • @SuperMario6419 first song: Streamliners

    second song: Freedom Train

not sheer who the artist sorry

  • @spfilms4449 The artist is Jim Coffee

  • @spfilms4449 The artist is James Coffey.

  • This is an excellent video! I got to see her in the Freedom Train colors. I wish they'd bring it out this way, the Kansas City area. The 844 was just here and the 3985 was here last fall. I've seen them plenty, but the 4449, only once. I think she's about the most glamorous of all the steamers no matter what colors she's in. Again, great video.

  • Until watching this video of the 4449, I didn't realize it was the Freedom train I saw in 1976. I still have my coin I bought in the trains souvenir car. I have a picture of my little son at the time standing next to it. What a great video on this Grand Ole Engine.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • And in 2010, she received a new whistle from one of her sister locos

    Btw nice vid

  • @jakarate11 Is it 4460's whistle? and thank for the comment!

  • @spfilms4449 It is not 4460's whistle , but a different gs-4 whistle. I am not sure which one, but you can see it in action here: /watch?v=1oqNJHMorqs

  • @spfilms4449 i dont think it is there`s a vid that in the description it says it was bought off of ebay

  • i looked on a website called friends of southern pacific 4449 and they showed pictures of 4449 being towed out of oaks park and on one of those pictures if look closely at the bottom of the boiler lid the number bored said 4448 and not 4449 i thought that was weird

  • what song is this

  • @Seekanddestroy1ful 1st song was Streamliners 2nd was Freedom Train. im not sure who sings it.

  • @spfilms4449 The artist is James Coffey. He did the songs for the "I Love Toy Trains" series.

  • @chevyalltheway06 i use sony vegas 9

  • SP 4447 was sold for scrap to National Metals at Los Angeles on 6-6-1956.

  • Very cool, I like this history series, so far I've watched this and the McKeen car series. I am looking at starting a web-based online railroad history group, maybe you could present these and talk about the research you did putting it together.

Check the group virginiatruckeerr for a thread about this idea, thanks!

  • nice video, i'm a fan of no. 4449

  • very good keep it up

  • Very cool Ryan
