  • shane had teeth?

  • wait is the bass player a chick?

  • @bakersakter untill the third album the bass player was a lady. But she left for Costello.

  • @tich1978 elvis costello? he sucks wahta stupid bitch

  • @bakersakter you re wrong elvis costello rules, check out what he has done, you ll be amazed.

  • @tich1978 i havent heard one good song by him

  • @bakersakter

She was his wife back then.

  • @fidelxxx whos?

  • @bakersakter

That basist chick, Cait O'Riordan, married Costello in 1986, then skipped some Pouges' tour gigs and finaly left the band later that year. She was also the first choice to sing Fairytale of New York with Shane.

  • Amazing!!

  • i love the way that guy is hitting his head with that thing

  • Looks like a successful evening.

  • This song rocks! Just look how intensely Spider is singing with Shane! Who would have guessed Spider would then turn out shit like "Tuesday Morning"? It was so very un-Pogues like.

  • I keep watching this over & over!!! Was it filmed at the London bar where soldiers chunked popcorn at them??? Wish I could have been there & seen them in the day!!!! The tambourine head banging is great!!! I didn't even keep up with outlaw country once I started my family, let alone try something new. Now in old age I'm catching up on all I missed!!! Shane is a great poet!!! Thanks for this lovely snapshot of the Pogues ' early days!!!!

  • WHAT'LL YA HAVE? I'LL HAVE A PINT

i'LL HAVE A PINT WITH YOU SIR!

AAARRRGGGHHHND... IF ONE OF YA DOESN'T ORDER SOON

WE'RE CHUCKED OUT OF THE BOOZER!!! :D

  • The Pogues made better albums after RED ROSES, but there's a ragged, falling-apart-at -the-seams, will-this-possibly work raw exhilaration here that shows a near perfect synthesis of folk with punk attitude that even after seeing many band borrow from it, still feels fresh. This must've been so NEW in 1984. It's like lightning in a bottle.

  • WHAT'LL YA HAVE

    I'LL HAVE A PINT

I'LL HAVE A PINT WITH YOU SIR

    AAAARRGHHHH (unintelligible gibberish)

    WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK

*jolly music* True Irish gentlemen. And possibly the best drinking song in the universe.

  • Spider hitting himself with the drink tray is one of the best moments in music. I love this!!!

  • HAHA the best! icant stop lauging when he hits him self with the tamburine!

  • The 10 people who disliked this were just about to go to their AA meeting when they saw this video, put in on repeat & proceeded to get sloppy pissed!

  • Last night I was so wasted, and kept on singing "I'LL HAVE A PINT WITH YOU SIR" !

    This song is legendary.

  • what do you want? ill have a pint. ILL HAVE A PINT WITH YOU SIR :)

  • I honestly cannot stop watching this video... I love it so much.

  • So damn awsome, cant wait til i see them in august!

  • look at shanes teeth lol 0:07

  • @wtfman916 Look at Shane's teeth today...or the lack there of. That guy rules. Haha.

  • real badasses. prob wont ne around much longer.

  • I haven't heard this for years. Forgot it was called Waxie's Dargle. Great stuff. Love the teatray, a neglected instrument! By the way, Shane Macgowan's English, as are some of the rest of the band.

  • @laser325 well, he was born in England, but to Irish parents. One of those situations where you could call him Irish or English, or whatever he decides to call hmiself. Either way, a fuckin' talented artist!

  • @chrsmac Couldn't agree more. A true one-off.

  • I love Cait. I'd marry her.

  • Ah, howerya elvis costello.

  • hah funny n' awesome xD =]

  • that clip is from a show called europe-a-gogo from the 80s if i remember right... thats where i heard the POGUES for the first time - and i m hooked ever since. thanx for loading it up here!!!

  • I fucking love the irish.

  • i seen the pogues in kildare and inbetween every song they get a tray of pints out, down them, and then one of em bangs the tray of his head about ten times to get the crowd goin mental...it works...

  • 'Aaaarrghhh!!!'

I love Shane, Spider and James!!

  • Um, this is the studio version...

  • yeah so far the best version I've heard is by Blarney Folk, if you can't find it online i can send u it probably

  • Wait nevermind, I though you meant that this wasn't The Pogues' best live version of the song, not the song in general. x)

But personally I prefer the Pogues, though even more so live than in studio.

  • Glad you confessed.!

  • Simply The Best.

  • beer tray!

  • Every time I listen to this song it makes me laugh, you couldn't think of a better pub song if you tried. The Pogues really are fantastic :)

  • @WestHamUtd4lyfe Every time I go drinking I always end up singing this&Streams Of Whiskey never fails

  • song is ftw

  • another sweet Oirish melody, to soothe me jangled nerves- me Oirish Granma did,nt know this song, all I can remember is somethin bout "Too-Ra Looraa , Toora Loora Ly" . Not taking the Mickey out of the Pogues- they are the best!!! Regards, Mick

  • haha. right on.

  • El Jefe

  • they are as wild as ted nuggent , party, party, party, party, all the time

  • Right then. C'mere lad. I'll let you in on a wee secret. Ted Nugent is clean and sober as the blessed Mother. He doesn't "party". Our beloved Paddies however, do.

  • Fine job, Pogues, on a song that isn't the easiest to play, especially at that tempo.

  • This song, this video never gets old; I just smile and my heart feels happy through the whole time it plays.

  • this might be the most insane music video i've ever seen

  • miałem mniej, niż 17 lat, gdy usłyszałem to po raz pierwszy, jeszcze u ś.p. Wassowskiego. Mam teraz 33 lata i pełną płytotekę Pogues'ów. ZASŁUŻYLI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What'll ye have?

  • gin and Tonic, if you please sir.

  • a dry white wine and Perrier

  • The best Irish punks EVER.

  • @ruppel1968 Chill they play awesome music

  • You used an uninspired insult, I condescended to you by returning with in an uninspired insult.

Friend, we're all talking English here; please try to be coherent. I know that's hard for you, being Canadian and all, but at least give it a shot.

You can't understand it because you're not trying to. I understand it perfectly. And how can you say it's pointless if you can't even understand it?

And if Canada's a sovereign nation, how come the Queen is on your money?

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Use your words, Ted.

  • firewall, are you so pathetic that you're going to every pogues video to say how they suck?

I'LL HAVE A PINT, I'LL HAVE A PINT WITH YOU SIR AAAGGGHNND... if one of ya doesn't order soon We'll get chucked out the boozer!!!" -- Just completin' it :)
  • This is fuckin' awesome!

  • Tune and a half. Imagine seen these nutters play live in the early 80s. Great band. Great band.

  • One of the great disapointments for the 1980s student: The Pogues were not really Irish.

  • 3 of them were

  • most of em were london Irish...dont really matter tho, musics good.

  • 1980s student says it all, and yes most of 'em were Irish

  • And what does it mean to be 'Irish', may I ask?

The Irish government will issue a passport to any person who has at least one Irish-born grandparent. By that reasoning, Shane Macgowan, Cait O'Riordan, Terry Woods, and Philip Chevron are Irish.

The irony is that the Pogues never pretended to be anything but the Pogues. English, Scottish, American, Australian, and Eastern European stylings can be heard throughout their work.

The Pogues never pretended to be anything but the Pogues

  • Your an idiot...while Shane MacGowan was born in Kent UK..his parents were irish and he grew up there as a Child..also at rthe time th epogues came up record labels in UK would not let many bands admit they were irish..(like the Clash whom everyone assumes is british) the pogues were one of the fir4st bands to tell to piss off and be they are..which is Irish

  • you sure about teclash being irish???? im a big fan and im sure joe was of scotish and english decent, mick of welsh and russian and paul & topper were just english i believe, no irish in there?????

  • Everybody thinks the Clash were British because they WERE British. Well Joe was born in Turkey or something, but I hardly think that means he classed himself as a Turk. And certainly not Irish.

  • joe strummer was born in turkey, mick jones was born in clapham, your such a twat kidda....

  • I also like the quick camera shots, and the bouncing. Its like the camera man is dancing or something, and it really gives the video the crazy-punk-night-out-drinking feeling...

like those movies when they reminisce about the crazy night before... ah dont listen to me..im drunk..

  • I completely understand you, im pissed asa fart now lol

  • wow, my new favorite Pogues song! love spider's yelling and the beer tray smashing!

  • Love them!!

  • I always loved the angry face crash cymbol

  • one of my favorites

  • "And if one of ya doesn't order soon

we'll be chucked out of the boozer!" Great song. I like how that dude bashes that shit against his head. Hard-fucking-core.
