The Pogues made better albums after RED ROSES, but there's a ragged, falling-apart-at -the-seams, will-this-possibly work raw exhilaration here that shows a near perfect synthesis of folk with punk attitude that even after seeing many band borrow from it, still feels fresh. This must've been so NEW in 1984. It's like lightning in a bottle.
