  • correct me if i am wrong ,but is that Eddie van halen playing a fender telecaster?

  • Everything The Who did between 1989-1996 (not much) with all the additional players was... odd. I was glad when Pete felt his hearing had improved enough to start thrashing out on the electric again. Even without Moonie, they did some amazing shows between 2000-2002, and the Concert For NYC in the wake of 9/11 was FANTASTIC.

  • pete is playing the other guitar because he is pretty deaf .they are the loudest band in the world

  • ozzy on guitar

  • why isn't Pete playing lead??

  • Freeze it at 0:24..I did not know Ozzy Osbourne could play guitar.

  • @dongtingwong gagagagagaga can't stop laughing @ that! lol I like the OZ man(not half as much) but him and his"band" don't have s@@t compaired to these men! 1;58-2:49man WOW!

  • eye patch?

  • @nickmandl From what I heard, during the rehearsals, Gary Glitter accidentally hit Roger in the face with his mic stand and that was why he needed the eye patch.

  • "APPLE SCRUMMPING!"

  • Poor Roger looks sad as the song starts. Is he crying from the pain of his eye injury. :-(

  • The best part of this performance is the fact that it takes two drummers to replace one Keith Moon.

  • @nobillygreen yep!

  • @03:14 its SO weird.. the guitarist (green guitar) reminds me, visually of an outer-world EVH. So bizarre.

  • john entwistle greatest bass player! the who loudest and great band ever

  • ask geddy lee billy sheehan lemmy les claypool who the greatest bassist is they all say john entwistle.

  • is that mccartney in the background singing backups

  • john made me quit coke!...im still inspired by the best bass lines in the buissnes and im going to carry on! ''peace,

  • DR. COX!

  • OX - dead junkie :D but great musician of course

  • @dsisa27 a dead junkie no the man died like a real rock star should full of drugs with a hooker in his bed at 50 or so years old not like they modern fags like coldplay who drink green tea before a gig and chant. im sorry but rock and roll is dying on its ass we need more superstars not sad fucks

  • is there a album verison on youtube?

  • Who is that other guitarest Y isnt pete playing electric guitar

  • @j45112 because he's pete townshend and HE DOES WHAT HE WANTS !!

  • @j45112 Pete was suffering from tinnitus and aprtial deafness. In fact, he had this problem since '67 or '68, but by late 80's, it got bad to a point that, when he agreed to do a reunion tour, he relegated himself to acoustic guitar so it would minimize damage to his hearing. In fact, even their 2011 Quadrophenia tour nearly didn't happen because of his damaged hearing.

That's the sad thing about The Who. Their great sound is meant to be loud. But it cost them.

  • entwistle, the bass legend.

  • this is the best kind of music

    old school rock.

not the pussy shit that new rock bands play now

    OLD ROCK FTW

  • @suereed not how john played it, it isn't.

  • Is it Procol Harum's guitarist in 0:25?

  • THE WHO

  • i think it's a shame townshend's playing on the acoustic guitar i miss his distinctive electric who sound

  • Roger looks like Dr Cox from Scrubs

  • Missing Boltz Bolton.

  • Holy shit! They've got Eddie Van Halen playing guitar with them! Really cool video. Happy 67th OX! We miss you!

  • @Thunderfingers999 That's Geoff Whitehorn on electric guitar.

  • @znbassman Sure looks like Eddie! Thanks

  • its just not the same without keith moon

should have stopped after his death, just like led zeppelin and bonham's death

  • @ejdbk I will agree Kenny Jones was a mistake, but Zak Starkey is not only the son of Ringo Starr, he was Keith's protegee. And of course, he is DAMN good. He is worthy of Keith's old spot.

I don't about The Ox, though. He's much tougher to replace.

  • @Astrosimi

yeah, maybe if they just put zak on drums,i would continue listening to them, but they put kenny first, then they put all these useless additions to the live band(saxophonists, keyboardest, rythem guitarist) WTF,if the line up was daltry, townshend, zak and john,it would have been ok,but they really fucked up the who after keith's death, and they should have stopped after john entwistle's death

and yeah, zak used to call moon "uncle keith",ringo starr and keith were best friends

  • @ejdbk you do realise how old was zak when the who needed a new drummer ?

  • @Korph88

yeah i know,i was just saying

  • 名曲だぁね☆

  • That guy Entwistle? nah, he ain't that good, I tried teaching him a few tricks, but we wan't learning ;~)

  • The whole band is powerful and in very fine form here - but Roger Daltrey really stands out as flat out amazing throughout this whole show!

  • how can The Ox keep a straight face? I picture myself playing the bass like that jumping all over the place

  • Entwistle did NOT kick ass and take names: He kicked ass; but, he was too busy playing killer bass to take names. I think he had a stenographer take the names...

  • AWESOME still sounds fricking GREAT !

  • is that ozzy?

  • This is not the Who, this is a bunch of has beens.

  • says the never was...

  • As a bass player I listen & try to learn from a lot of bassists. John Entwistle took the bass to new heights in 1965 with My Generation and then proceeded to lay down fantastic bass lines for the rest of his life. I honestly think there is no equal in rock bass playing. His melodic lines, his sense of rhythm and beat, and his use of the whole neck and scales I think set him apart from his contempories and those that followed. What band, what a bassist!!!!

  • This is really a thunder!!!

  • long live the ox,

  • ... The Who with backup singers?? WHAT?

  • Love this song - thanks for sharing it! Long live the WHO!

  • Are those the Fabba Girls?

  • John Entwistle= bass perfection. The reason that basslines in songs nowadays are interesting. Thanks, man.

  • @Snookbone

well, in that you shouldn't forget to mention mccartney, wilson (played trough the hands of carol kaye), jamerson, redding and paul jones.

  • God o'mighty - Entwistle is GOD!!!!!!!!!!

  • KInell THEOX tapping his foot thought he only ever moved his fingers

    he was FUCKIN AWESOME

  • The guy on the green guitar is Jeff Whitehorn..he's a well respected british session player..veeeeerrrrryyyyyy tasty!!!

  • why the fuck are they replacing the oxs bass with a horn god disastrous cmon pete dont turn it down

  • Is that Eddie Van Halen??? At least it looks like him. Weird.

  • who ii a better bass player John E. or John paul jones . tuff call.

  • I think JPJ prefers a more clean sound from the bass, while The Ox played the bass as if it was an actual electric guitar, adding a lot of tremble and effects to it.

It's hard to say which one's better, really. But I'd go for Entwistle.

  • @johnflaherty Entwistle and JPJ are very different. Entwistle is the better bass player but JPJ is the better musician

  • @johnflaherty

john entwistle is way better, trust me

i am a fan of led zeppelin also, and i rarely hear any bass lines from JPJ,they are overdubbed i guess, apart from the lemon song though

  • @johnflaherty and JPJ has like never taken a solo. ive looked all over at Zeppelin live performances and can't see him taking a bass solo, not even ONCE!!!

  • @SuperJewTV1 The Lemon Song

  • @johnflaherty No doubt Entwistles better, but I Do very much more prefer JPJs tone.... you dont get lost in his notes, whereas all of the effects bury the best parts of EWs

  • Comment removed

  • @slotwinski1414 And that's the thing a lotta people don't get about Entwistle. He had to do all that, his bass had to be loud enough to fill in the gaps, since they were basically a 3-piece band. Practically everyone played lead: lead bass, lead guitar, lead drums... They could use piano, organ, acoustic guitars and stuff like that on their studio albums.

But on stage? They had to do what they did live, especially Entwistle, so their sound wouldn't lose that richness from the studio versions.

  • @johnflaherty - didn't Entwistle play banjo as well? Maybe some influence there... hmm

  • @neurocosm No, Pete played banjo, John played trumpet, french horn, and piano.

  • @johnflaherty I love John -- in Quadrophenia I love his bass at The Real Me. John used to say that he does not play bass, but bass guitar

  • John Entwistle was voted "Bassist Of The Millenium" not a tough call. Cheers

  • @MrTrajan69 I disagree. Not the Millenium. Best ever!! :-)

  • @jimca2 John E.

  • Nothing so pointful to the very point then the british flag!

  • My god...John Entwistle makes playing the bass look so easy, doesn't he? What an incredible musician!

  • @lexy67flc And a devastatingly handsome man!

  • I prefer the usual Who band, but this isn't bad. And I do like Zak Starkey. He seems to be keeping the spirit of Keith alive, while still playing like himself. As far as I'm concerned, he's been the only one worthy of filling that drum stool since the great loss of Keith. And now that John has left us too, well, it feels kinda empty. Though I do still have a great deal of love for Roger and Pete.

And would you just LOOK at the size of that crowd. Of COURSE this band are still relevant!

  • Yeah Zak is awesome, and of course John is unreplaceable, but i reckon Pino is a very worthy contender!

  • I remember seeing this on tv. I had a chance to see Quadrophenia on tour in 96 but I blew it.

  • John Entwistle was voted, Bassist Of The Millenium

  • Amazing performance by Sir. R. Darltrey

  • i hope john pulls off something amazing like this at the superbowl. that would be awesome

  • Doubly amazing, since he's dead.

  • John's solo- although short, was great! I'd lose a leg to be able to play like that- sitting down then.......

  • My first Phish concert was Halloween 95. This song was my favorite part of their musical costume. Perfect arena rock

  • I don't know much bout The Who. How many original members are here in this vid

  • 3: Roger Daltrey (vocals), Pete Townshend (acoustic guiter) and John Entwistle (bass). (The) Korot

  • Well theirs alot of extra players for sound, but their all here except for keith moon, RIP 1978

  • Just 3... Pete (lead guitar, John (Bass) and Roger (Vocals). Keith Moon, the original drummer of the who, passed in 1978.

  • 3...the singer, the guitarplayer and the bassplayer

  • No one ..no one played bass like John !!!

  • I was at this show. I was 12 years old and it changed my life to hear Quadrophenia live.

  • :(( I wish I was there...

  • Sang this and "The Real Me" many a drunk time at a karroake bar.

  • "pretty women, diggin'!!!!"

  • And Geoff Whitehorn on lead guitar.

  • this was Simon's first proper Who gig.

  • Gotta love Roger's enthusiam!

  • God love the 'oo. I don't know who the guitarist with the white Telecaster is, but I'd bet that's Eddie Van Halen with the green guitar!

  • Was Simon Townshend with them already back in 96?

  • Can someone tell me what's up with Roger's eye? Why is he wearing a patch?

God, Thinderfingers, Why'd you go and die on us. You are amazing.

  • glitter hit roger in the eye with a microphone stand, watch i've had enough and you'll see .

Roger had a fractured eye socket so to continue and hide the damage he wore an eye patch

  • awesome guitar solo and awesome bass solo, the ox, a truly legendary rock bassist, btw, anyone know who's the person playing the electric guitar here?

  • 2 electric guitarists and 1 acoustic guitar for pete townshends parts and only 1 bass for entwhistle

    greatest bass player ever!

  • I was there!

  • what makes the ox show so fantastic is that he is able to do with a bass the work of a bassist, a rythm guitar and often even a lead guitar leaving pete free to exercise his genius as freely as possible. pete is a brilliant composer, but john's talent makes pete's compositions possible to perform

  • John Entwistle was the GREATEST Godamn bassist of all time No Fucking questions asked.

    R.I.P

  • yep NUFF SAID!

  • As much as I love The Who (their my favourite band), Daltrey's voice is just painful now.

  • But you have to consider that he is 65 years old this year. He is an old man.But still, I don't know any band with so much energy on stage today as The Who, or The Two they are called these times. Most 16 year olds wouldn't agree with me, but to H*** with them;)

  • Just to say one thing to defend Mr. Daltrey would be how many people could carry a tune at his age. The type and style of singing he was asked to do at 20 or 30 at the age of over 60? Too bad, but it is still the Who.

  • this whole song i a bass solo

  • they are great performers

  • Eddie Van Halen and John shouldve had a solo-off in this song.

  • Wow, Roger enjoyed this show ;-) ! Cool guy he is.

  • Entwistle voted, BASSIST OF THE MILLENIUM.

  • wow, roger dosent even look that old here.

  • WTF!!?? there were only like, 2 shots of john.

where's the love for the rythym section?

  • I was at this.

    I know, "what do I want a medal? "

    Just sayin'!

  • I have to agree, I love the Who, but Pete wanted the extra stuff. The ox was incredible. When Keith died, the Who died. It was never the same.

  • This video editor is an idiot. Focus on John you moron; it's his solo,,,

  • I know- wtf?!

  • too right!

  • Hah! two drummers try to recreate Keith Moon. Valant attempt to. But who are they, anyone know?...."Van Halen... too douchenozzleish"...Priceless!

  • i hate when they toured with all that extra shit... they made the ox turn down...

  • Zak Starkey is one of them (Ringo's son)

  • Fathering Zak is probably the only good thing that Ringo ever did for Rock music.

    just my opinion.

  • wow, you must not be a drummer, I guess.

  • Nailed it, man.

  • Zak is the man. great, great drummer.

  • he's alot better than his dad (ringo)

  • not bad for Zak's first gig with The Who, oh and only 100000 watching...

  • I don't like the look on the guy with the green guitar's face....too...douchenozzleish.

  • That man is Van Halen

  • Still looks like a douche.

  • you are wrong sir, that man is geoff whitehorn

  • I speak for every Who fan alive when I tell you to go fuck yourself.

  • Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Neither of you are wrong. I hate it when people smash good instruments. You might hate fenders or gibsons, but you cannot deny it is a good quality instrument. I hate the needless smashing of perfectly usable instruments. Entwistle is a genius on bass. Whether you like the who or not, is up to you.

  • Thanks, anyway, I didn't mean to insult anyone; I'm always SO disappointed when I have another go at the WHO. Can't get to like them, I think they're too ordinary in their songwriting and I can't stand that guy's voice, Daltrey.

  • i can understand people not liking the who, no thats not true, i cant understand it but i can accept it... but of all things you can say about the who, ordianry songwriting if by far not one of them... they dont right stupid love songs... they right hilarious stuff... check into less popular stuff a quick one(1966) for example...

  • phuh-Q

  • Muhaahhaaaha!

  • ugh... the 90s were bad years for the who, they dont look like there into it... thy look bored...

  • Who is that guitarist with the green guitar?

  • Elton John's gitarists...

  • Eddie Van Halen

  • Townshend playing acoustic saying it was because of his hearing. Look at The Ox whose hearing was worse than Townshend's still pounding away at the bass. Stop being a wuss Pete!

  • But Pete's hearing is almost.non-existent...like, almost deaf xD...or so i've read

  • Why are there so many questions?

  • WHat the fuck happened to Rogers eye??

  • he got hit by a spinning mic.

  • who the fuck are the 50 other people on the stage who are not the who?

  • exactly! it pisses me off!

  • why should I care?

  • why is townshend playing acoustic so much?

  • I read that he wanted to go by himself on tour and perform the whole thing on acoustic. Sure glad that the whole band came along with him. A few tracks, cool- but two hours of pete and an acoustic is a little much.

  • So he can feel the vibrations...he can't hear what he plays anymore.

  • marrant, ils sont obligé de s'y mettre a deux pr remplacer se bon vieux Keith Moon!!! :)

  • That's the who

  • Roger is wear a bullseye eyepatch.. What else do you want?

  • How about a flashy outfit.

Not just street clothes. I don't wanna make a big deal about it.

Hendrix never wore street clothes. Anyway, I am a BIG fan of this band.

  • they use to dress all super flamboyant pre-tommy.

They are old dudes now, they'd look kind of retarded wearing that shit now. (or 13 years ago, whatever)

  • They were into flashy stage clothes during the sixties and seventies. Townshend in a white jumpsuit, Entwistle in a leather skeleton suit, and so on.

I'd like to think they just outgrew that.

  • Hmmm...perhaps.

I still think they should be wearing something other than regular clothing.

    Showmanship.

I think they lost that over the years.
