I loved the Unsung episode. It was so sad to see what they went through to get out of Watts they worked their asses off then the slick manager took half their money. Damn shame.
@Nanadsyl I agree. Its ashame that they were taken advantage of by their management. People are critical of Joe Jackson, but he protected his children from the crooks in the business. Too bad the Sylvers didn't have anyone looking out for their best interest. So much talent, they could have gone soooo much farther than the did. I really enjoy their music.

tyava (Olympia's daughter) actually said that they are of mixed race but they just say to keep it simple.....she said that her gradmother is creole and her grandfather was black,native american, and was either jewish or german.......you can read about it at the messageboard on yahoo for more details.....

I am somewhat p.o'd @ Essence, MsTexas73. Why? When Essence magazine did a recent 30 page tribute to the Late Michael Jackson, Essence had a sidebar that labeled the Sylvers as a Jacksons wannabe (or clone....whatever word Essence used).
I resented Essence labeling the Sylvers that Altho,..by admittance, Foster did sound vocally too similar to Michael.
Hmmmm....sounds like an idea. I just might. I really was not feeling Essence magazine for that, you know? What will Essence Magazine do next? Claim 90s girl group Xscape was an EnVogue clone (or ghetto wannabe version of)? I feel each group (soul singing family groups) is different with their own distinctiveness. Sister Sledge was different from the Jones Girls who was different from the Pointer Sisters who was different from the Staple Singers who was different from the Hawkins family. Come on!

0:29 to 0:40 is Edmund and James
0:44 to 0:57 is the girls (Angie, Charmaine, and Olympia, I think it was)
1:20 to 1:30 ... that's Leon
(That's how it was performed live, anyway.)

You are correct that one of the little guys is Christopher *who passed away in the mid 80s*...and the other little guy is Michael, Olympia's son.
