2. we wanted to leave vietnam because the public (hippies) was in favor of ending the conflict. we could have kept fighting, as we were militarily crushing Charlie and the NVA. Nixon was pro Vietnamization and wanted to downsize US involvement.

President Ford begged congress to let him send supplies to South Vietnam but they refused. All of this was the end results of Watergate. Most Americans had returned home when the South fell. UNFORTUNATELY, however, the n. vietnam 'won' POLITICALLY because americans saw years of 'end of the tunnel' promises by westmoreland as bullshit. 1968 became the first year most americans were opposd to the war, and this is what ho chi minh wanted.

there were essentially 'terrorist attacks' and the purpose (by the viet cong in this case) was not necessarily to 'win' (hard to measure a hit and run attack on an airfield) as to cause confusion, destroy as much as you can, and get out.
