  • I remember when I was a teenager and I would sing this song and we would just go in.

  • They don'e make songs like this anymore.

  • @UNEEKMONIQ No not like that one

  • I LOVER THE HORNS AT 1:07 AND HOW THE STRINGS EASE IN. FOUNDER WAS A MAN WHO STAYED IN TOUCH AND WAS EVER ADAPTABLE TO THE TIMES. THIS SONG PUTS ME TO SLEEP EVERY NIGHT ON MY IPOD BC WHEN I WAKE UP I WANT TO BE BETTER!!

  • Marva's father wasn't just a minister in San Diego, he was THE MAN in the SOCAL

    black ministry.

Reverend Hines was legendary, he had his own gospel show on one

of the original Mexican FM stations for years.

Marva is still singing beautifully in San Diego.

  • OMG! This is the song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful Song. I remember Rev. Cleveland and Rev. Brunson and the Winans had a profound effect on the child I was then that made me the man I am now. The gospel of this time period was extremely powerful. Thanks for posting Weluvmusick

  • @JayEm86 I agree. thatsw what made him the King of Gospel. He was able to adjust to the times and styles of gospel music. I especially appreciate the big full orchestral sounds he incorporated for that rich instrumental "Philly" sound that was so popular at the time

  • Marva Hines is a San Diego native and one of the most gifted and talented writers! I am proud to call her my friend and sister. She is a grammy award nominee and has some awesome projects with her former group, " Marva Hines & Company." This some is a gospel classic and has been recorded by Father Hayes & Voices Of Cosmopolitan and most currently Sherri Addison of B.E.T.'s Sunday Best.

  • I've been singing this song since I was a little girl. The words of this song ring true now more than ever. I truly want to be better.

  • I Know what you mean this songs is deeper that it seems

  • Marva did record her own album entitled "The Soul of Marva Hines". I am privileged to call her my friend and my Godsister.

  • @Bunni0707 and deansvision I dont care WHO sings this song, Ms. Marva set the standard. I love her vocals on it. Is it wrong to say sultry or sexy in gospel? such a strong R&B drive with a spiritual overtone. well if its wrong I still luv this version. best wishes to u both and my best to Ms. Marva

  • @wcta0608 I like Marva'a version better myself

  • @weluvmusick Same here!

  • Thank you weluvmusick. When she says"I'm willing to pay the price Im willing to sacrifice I'll go all the way I'll do whatever you say". I just can't hardly take it. Great version!

  • what was the name of the movie?

  • I think Sheall is referring to the documentary simply titled "Gospel" (1983).

  • Marva Hines was a Cleveland Singer and she appears on the Gospel film that Reverend James and Southerrn California did with Walter Hawkins and Love Center Choir in Oakland. Marva's father had a ministry in San Diego and she left the group to go help at the churh and Betty Griffin took her place. Betty sounds almost exactly like Marva Hines

  • Oh, is Marva the lady singing background with Cleo? I think she leads on I Have a Determination.

  • Yes, you are right!

  • This is original version of the song, it was also recorded on the GMWA project by her

  • you're right but you must have been 2 or 3 years old back then but It's great to see someone as you are take an interest in the old school gospel ,thanks for your comments

  • Father Hayes and The Comos recorded this song too, with Ms. "Jesus Will Work It Out It" herself , Dianne Williams singing lead!!!

  • and Shari Hayes has a version out now. Amazing how all versions sound almost exactly like the original. I still like this version the best.

  • Me Too

  • Thank you for this video I remember listening to this song every sunday mourning and while riding in the car heading to church. This song is a classic and I didn't realize Rev. James Cleveland recorded it.

    God bless

  • James Cleveland mentored a lot of artists like Keith Pringle ,Calvin Banard Rhone,Daryl Coley back in the 70s & 80s but I don't know if Marva Hinds ever recorded a solo album or not ,but she did a good job with Make Me Better.that 's for sure

  • awesome! peace2u!

  • Alright !
