I took a course about cults in university. A Scientology recruiter came to talk to us/try to convert us. He mentioned nothing a bout xenu or the aliens, or even the books of L. Ron Hubbard. This is what separates scientology from christianity and other religions. Christianity might be just as dumb but at least they are upfront. They show you a bible and say this is the truth. With Scientology you don't get to find out what they're really about until you've emptied your wallet.

4. Scientology has HUNDREDS of books that must be purchased in order to progress 'up the ladder', whereas in Christianity you only need ONE book, the bible, and if you have no money you can get one for free.

What I said was that if the COS had been around for the past 100/200 yrs, it most likely would be getting as much backlash as it does today. Do they have a class in specializing how to ignore comments that may make their religion look bad? i.e bringing up the devastating amount of people who have died or rather, killed or the fact that they are following a religion that was created by a science fiction writer.

There's no way you can compare Scientology to ANY of the other major religions, and I'll tell you why -
1. You don't have to pay a PENNY to be a christian, there are millions of poor African Christians, how many poor African Scientologists are there?
2. Any other religion is happy to talk at lengths about their faith and beliefs, Scientologist seem to want to deny their faith, they jump on the defensive when you mention anything to do with L.R.H or 'Xemu'

I took a course about cults in university. A Scientology recruiter came to talk to us/try to convert us. He mentioned nothing a bout xenu or the aliens, or even the books of L. Ron Hubbard. This is what separates scientology from christianity and other religions. Christianity might be just as dumb but at least they are upfront. They show you a bible and say this is the truth. With Scientology you don't get to find out what they're really about until you've emptied your wallet.

4. Scientology has HUNDREDS of books that must be purchased in order to progress 'up the ladder', whereas in Christianity you only need ONE book, the bible, and if you have no money you can get one for free.

Scientologys age is not the issue.The issue is the destructive, finicially crippling effect the church has on peoples live. What I said was that if the COS had been around for the past 100/200 yrs, it most likely would be getting as much backlash as it does today. I have to disagree on the suicide rate among members though. Sorry, there is no way to prove that, though I agree it is high, it merely more widely publicized.

I think the COS backlash is awfully subjective. Though I do think you have to be a nut to join the COS, I find that live and let live to be more apropos as I'm sure it does some good for some people. Catholic Priests rape young boys and no arrests are made.
