awesome cover. i work in a music store, and the sv1's eps are best heard when someone knows how to produce the different sounds by playing with different levels of velocity. you have mastered that. bravo
Nice performance! Good taste arranging and great articulation. I've transcribed this performance in finale. If someone wanna study this piano part just write me.
thank you very much. ...I would like to have a copy of your transcription myself, if possible. Would you maybe send it to kontakt (at) andreas-gundlach.de.
Awesome..I dont care if they are from Korg..Bloody nice playing and a great song(no-one beats Donny and Robertas version tho), and Id rather see an ad where the keyboard does the talking rather than some knob waffling on..
I just got myself an sV1 and I can finally put the wurly in the studio(out to pasture) where it belongs and bash the hell out of this thing instead.I never thought anything would get close to my wurly, but through the hot rod deluxe it kicks butt..
This dude is awesome, but it is a bit strange he appeared exactly when the SV1 premiered to make only SV1 videos. I am pretty sure KORG is behind his posts. That being said though, he freaking kills it. Piano sounds great to. Gonna go meditate on how I can't afford one of these unless I get rid of that kidney that's doing nothing for me now.
Very nice!! Also your other recordings! You recorded this in august 2009, was the SV1 released that much earlier in your country? I just got mine 3 weeks ago, one of the first ones in Holland. Glad to have it at last, play it every day.
Thank you for this beautifull arranged song. Professional playing, precise intonation, i'm impressed and moved :-)....and thx to Korg for this fine Stagepiano ... :-)
So...I'm think either this beast or a NE3 or 2.....this is cheaper...but it doesn't have the digital drawbars...though I do prefer this baby's rhodes sounds....what do you guys think? Nord or Korg? :)
depends on how much you care about hammond organ sounds, rock this with a copy of VB3 on your laptop (which could be bought with the price difference) and it would kill the NE IMHO
Thanks man!! :D I'm by far not a pro or even semi-pro, but the reason I'm looking at such high end 'boards is for money purposes. I figure just buy a REAL nice one and save from buying several keyboards over the years. Also, something that concerns me is the action. I've heard that the NE keys are much lighter than the SV-1 and if Im going to continue learning...I would prefer some very realistic action. Any opinion on that? Thanks again!! :)
It seems to fill the negative space around the Nord piano range. The SV1 has very impressive Rhodes and Wurlitzers but weak organs and mediocre acoustic pianos. The Electro 3 has mediocre Rhodes and Wurlitzers but very impressive XL acoustic pianos and organs.
Both have very impressive effects, although the SV1's distortion and reverb are better. Nord's filter-type effects sound better.
Together, surely you have an outstanding powerhouse.
Where did you get that board? It's not in the market yet is it. can't find it anywhere.. Wold you trade it for a roland g7.. I want that thing. :) soooooo bad.
Are the korg SV1 Piano and Rhodes sounds really really good? The acoustic pianos resonance, noises etc?
Have you tried clavias? I wanted to buy my first NE3-73 but I can have the korg for the same price and Nord has a lot of problems with piano even if its rhodes and all others keyboards are great.
I need the best Piano and Rhodes jazz (mark I or II) sometimes for rock with effects clavinet or B3 (not organ player) maybe mellotron but...
Can you help me to choose between korg and clavia?
What kind of problems does the NE3 have with piano's? I've got one, no problems here. In my opinion the Nord is the better option here. Excellent piano's and the organ section is the best of all the clones out there.
the clavs and wurli are pretty good (with effects) and XL acoustic pianos are very impressive, however I've often thought the rhodes samples are pretty weak and undynamic.
Organs are arguably the best in the world and worth owning the Electro 3 for even without the pianos and mellotrons!
Indeed, the XL pianos are impressive, but they still seem to be 'lacking'... 1) It's super annoying that there's no string resonance. 2) I'm left with the impression that playing from C5 up to C6, it sounds as there's a filter gradually opening - at least, that's what I'm hearing on the Steinway, my favourite.
Definitely with you on the Nord Rhodes. I'm anxious to hear the SV-1 pianos, as I need good AP's pretty bad, too...
I recently tried the SV-1 in a store and thought the APs were good, but I'd need to set the velocity curve properly to know for sure (couldn't work out how to do that!)
I guess we should accept that it sounds better and and is arguably cheaper to just buy a midi controller/laptop/audio interface/software than it is to buy a hardware keyboard with limited pre-set samples. Latency be damned!
The SV-1 does have VERY VERY good effects though, blows the Nord range out of the water
Cool. While you are at it, I first believed that each preset represented a sample, i.e. the 4 rhodes presets showed off the four rhodes samples of the keyboard.
Well, it doesn't have 4 rhodes samples, it seems - just 4 rhodes presets with different front panel settings. Then, do you know how many rhodes samples the instrument actually holds?
I think there are 4 x fully sampled Rhodes pianos, 2 x fully sampled Wurlitzer pianos and 2 x FM pianos and various other less realistic synthetic kinds of pianos which all sound familiar and usable. They all sound excellent and are 100% better than the NE3.
The acoustic pianos are good, but don't have string resonance. It's not like Korg to release anything with realistic pianos, so I'm still suspicious..
I'm definitely not letting my Electro 3 go. First of all, it's just the best versatile lightweight gig board there is - it's proven indispensable for those spontaneous jams and rehersals. Secondly, Korg hammond and clav doesn't cut it for me - Nord does, both sound- and key-wise. If only they'd release key-off and mute samples!
Going SV1 will be the final step for me in obtaining the ultimate rig. And playing piano, I'm more critical about the action. The sound doesn't have to be the best.
Listening to particularly Stevie gives me an idea of the detail and feel that the Electro clav lacks. It's disappointing that new samplesets haven't been made. There ought to be two - a 'regular' one with release samples, and one sampleset with mute samples, where the wheel on the NS and the 9th drawbar on the E acted as the mute bar. It'd be big, but worth it for many.
it's simply that no sample based system will get you that close to the real thing, and i've seen no decent clavinet physical modelling systems. i had high hope's for this when i looked over the technical section and found the Sv-1 used physical modelling patents licensed from yamaha, who made the absolutely phenomenal VL-1 (look it up if you don't know what it is) all the way back in 1991. moddart pianoteq is absolutely great too, just there are no clav models in it yet. but hopefully soon.
As to sound, 95% of my live audience doesn't care whether I use E2 or E3, or which rhodes or clav model / pickup combination I use, and what more is, they could never tell the difference. As to me as a player, I've actually never played a real clav. Haven't played a rhodes either, actually (facepalm!), but as a pianist it's not that difficult getting an idea of that instrument.
but you always will, and i guess that's why i'd always try the best route for tone. but live that's impossible, and i understand sacrifing a clav to get the rest of what the NE offers
But, you DONT get the Nord organs!!! I still prefer the nord because of that reason, however the SV1 is still only in its 1st incarnation. If they can merge the sound engine of the cx3 with the sv1 then the nords will be in real trouble!
The organs do sound good, but as you said... no drawbars!!!
I prefer to have complete control of the sound by moving the drawbars while holding a chord, I couldnt do this on the korg. I also prefer the waterfall keys on the nord electro in comparison to the fully waited keys on the korg (i've played other korgs with the same keys). But thats all subjective
The best thing to do is to try both and go for the 1 that best suits you.
I don't care what the hardcore purist say. This shit sounds cool compared to all the other sampled keys, and the features are modern enough to do things like plug into a comp, and through line ins and outs.
I know the sound, I know the song but what is the keyboard? Does anyone recognize it? It seems to have a lot of knobs, is this some homemade electric piano?

Oh, good to hear. I hope that they're not extremely bell-like, but can also be brought to sound real mellow...
As to the resonance, I'm surprised you say this feature is not present - at least, the Sound On Sound review mentions the high quality of this effect.
Nillerbabsen 2 years ago
Yeah I read that Sounds On Sound review. The acoustic pianos are not "some of the best around" or whatever it said, but it's all a matter of taste.
Since playing the SV-1, I'm seriously considering just selling the Nord and replacing it with.. a midi controller+computer-set up!
