Man, you are playing things made by most awesome bassist ever on most awesome Rickenbacker I've ever seen. Pure awesomness :) BTW, could you make some tutorials over Steve-like bass playing? Those triplets are sick, I'm sure that a lot of people wants to learn how to do this.
wow u dont see many bassist play rickenbachers anymore...i wanted one for awhile when i used to watch old cliff burton videos...but i guess i lost interest in them...they are great basses though
There are better ones in my opinion, but then again, opinions are opinions, and I thank you for yours. Makes me feel good and strive to be better.
You are correct about the age of my bass....it's a 1974 Rickenbacker 4001. I've had it since about 1987...around the time this album came out, actually.
I can definitely hear the Clop clop CLOP in that Ric. Great playing, your galloping fingers are faster than the FPS of your camera. This only further disproves the misconception that bass is easier than electric. They both have their "easys" and their "hards". Thinking of taking up bass myself, just so I can look that cool doing it :)
i play a guitar but my deep wish is to play a bass....been wanting that for like 6 months but im broke as hell lol.u play like god...are u in some kind a band?
E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T! I think you should try more Maiden songs that you haven't done yet even though the ones you've already played are superb! try something of the 7 SON OF A 7 SON ALBUM or the SOMEWHERE IN TIME one! I'LL BE HAPPY TO LISTEN TO THEM! KEEP PLAYING ROCK AND HARRIS MASTERPIECES!!!!!
one of my favourite maiden songs and u MASTERED IT DUDE!!!!!!! I LUV how u get into ur playing and thats Awesome lol i have to stare at my frets when im playing...another great cover...and by the way ur triplets sound AMAZING!
Yes, it was discontinued in favor of the 4003. That was sometime around the 80's, but I have no idea when. All I know is this one landed in my lap, and I grabbed it when I got the chance. At the time, I was a huge Geddy/Cliff Burton fan.
Same here, Cliff was my biggest influence to become a musician, and Geddy too naturally, since he influenced Cliff. It's a damn shame too, the 4003 just doesn't have the same charm as the 4001.
this might sound stupid lol, but you are one of my biggest inspirations, you kept me playing, i was gonna give up until i noticed how much fun you had, its all about the music and having a good time.
Life would be empty indeed if I could not drain my stresses into my music. Not only that, but it is hard to have low self-esteem when your cranking out some serious metal. I'm glad that my goofball antics have helped at least one person...lol.
Nice... I have the exact same Ric: '75 fireglo! I've just starting to learn 3 finger. Where are you resting your thumb while strumming the E string? I cant seem to keep up the tempo on the E string. Thanks for the video.
I float my thumb when I am playing on the E string usually, and then rest it when going to the A string, sometimes grabbing it with both the thumb and forefinger and snapping it upwards.
just awesom, i love the way you play the song, because you change a litlle bit the song, giving it a better look, becuse the original one is mora easy, 5 stars, by the way i love you bass, what model is it?
Awesome!! I have watched all of your Maiden and Primus videos. Amazing. I'm a great Maiden fan and I would really appreciate to hear you play 'The Clairvoyant', the second half of 'Rime Of The Ancient Mariner', and maybe 'Transylvania'. Up the Irons!
Hmm..I thought I answered this one before. I use Dean Markley Blue Steels...medium light gauge. As far as the fingering...yeah, I play in a totally different position than Steve does.
Awesome job Rob. It's amazing how many think Steve does his triplets w/ three fingers! My twin bro (yes there is another) plays bass, and got deeply into Steve's playing backn in the day. He was convinced that at times Steve would even use 4 fingers - do you remember the vid for Run to the Hills? At the end of Steve's cool fill (right after the solos when Bruce is doing the ascending vocal), his right hand fingers are flapping and it LOOKS like he is using four, hahaha.
He uses two most of the time but sometimes three. He is also widely quoted as saying that his technique is not something to study because it is not "right" by any means. I've watched him many times in my video collection, and he clearly uses two for most of his work. Those other fingers flap because the tendon of your pinky and ring finger are connected.
Wait... what? You use two fingers? I always thought you were using three... *Shrugs*
I play slightly weird. I use my middle and ring fingers together. I started doing that because I hated when my pinky would curl up, and now I feels weird to not play like that.
I use three, but when doing Maiden triplets, I use two at a time. I switch between using the middle and ring finger in opposition to the index. That is how I am not wearing out early in the tune any more.
I don't play bass but I wish that I could. Even more so, I wish I could play like Rob here. RIP man

$450, but that was 1987.

Damn, I thought you'd just purchased it recently, because, if I recall correctly, that line was discontinued. Either that, or a similar one.

Yes, it was discontinued in favor of the 4003. That was sometime around the 80's, but I have no idea when. All I know is this one landed in my lap, and I grabbed it when I got the chance. At the time, I was a huge Geddy/Cliff Burton fan.
