  • this song speaks a lot of truths

  • May the first person to dislike this video be... cast out!

  • If a dislike comes along blame it on Rolling Stone/Rock and Roll hall of Fame. I just dont get it

  • Only 34 thousand views? It should be 34 million, this song kicks ass

    RUSH!!!

  • Does anyone no who directed this vid. There is exceptional camera work in this. And the whole plot going along with the lyrics. Its ironic how many people relate to this song.I would say this wood stand up to top 5 best rock vids of all time.

  • Neil needs to break this set out. Im sure he still has it.

  • I know Peart is bad ass, but have you ever really listened to Ringo play?

  • Whats the video game the kid is playing?

  • @mkam11 "Tempest"

  • grew up listening and loving this !

  • Rush-Signals in 1982

  • The Views ARE SO DISSAPOINTING...SHEEEESH

  • these guys have been around for over 30 years ,"killing it". it still "stands up". name somebody, now, who you can say the same for...i defy you!

  • geddy plays bass krys and sings talant beyond beleief or what

  • @zztiki yeah, agreed. but how bout that Bieber bassist?

  • I seen RUSH in concert a few years back, 3 hrs of nothin but them, now thats a concert......the best concert i have ever seen....................

  • ,,///**\\.

  • If you want to know what 80's high school life was like.... this captures it.

  • Rush has been my favorite band since I was in High School in the late seventies. This song always echoed a song that a DJ used to play every morning when I was a little kid growing up in Beaumont, Texas. It was named "Little Boxes" and was sung by a folk group called Womenfolk. Now I think it's the theme song to "Weeds" and been covered by a bunch of famous musicians. The woman who wrote Little Boxes was inspired by driving over a hill coming into California and seeing endless suburbs.Checkitout

  • what is most interesting, and amazing, is that this song (and video) is still completely relevant in 2011. If not more so!

Update the cars, the clothes, and the general styles, and you have a timeless observation of the (unfortunate) way things are in big cities. It is a sad comment, but a beautiful (and hopeful, i think) song. Any song that can still be relevant 20+ years later is something! Check out Jacob Moon's live rooftop version. You'll be glad you did! :)

  • I see on the side where it says they're playing at Howlin' Wolf in New Orleans 12/21 They're not!!!That's GOLD & THE RUSH, a local, unsigned band. Just thought people would want to know in case anyone was making plans to go...

  • My first day at Plymouth Salem High School in Nov 1993, felt and looked just like this video. I was so lost, alone and hated it. HUGE culture shock coming from Inkster and S.W. Detroit. This song is beautiful yet haunting. Fkn 5,000 students going between 2 gynormous bulidings, Salem/Canton H.S. I thaught that shit was only in movies. Now days they go between 3 schools Salem/Canton/Plymouth. I couldnt imagine me being 15 out there nowdays. I used to say just add water and you have cardboard ppl.

  • ONE OF MY FAVORITES FROM RUSH GOD BLESS

  • Kewl seeing my ol' high school again. I remember when they filmed this @ L'Amoreaux CI, it was the most exciting thing that happened in our HS @ the time.

  • haha the footage in the video of the neighbourhoods and highschool are right by where I live. I like to go for a walk there on occasion to live the Subdivisions video "in person" . (It's Seagrave Cr., Sandy Haven Dr, and L'Amoreaux High School, in case you were wondering)

  • @musiclibrarygirl

Yeah, I was wondering. Ive been trying to find out where it was filmed so I can look it up on google and see how it looks NOW (a lot can change since 1982). Which parts where filmed on those streets, the aerial views or street shots?

  • @zambonitron Both parts (aerial view and street shots) were filmed on the two streets I mentioned (as well as Pale Moon cres). And yes, you are correct - 1:34 is #113 Seagrave Cres, and 5:01 is # 81 Pale Moon Cres. I'm gonna PM you all the other landmarks in the vid.

  • @musiclibrarygirl

Youre right.I googled Seagrave Crescent and I found the house at 1:34, the duplex. The block looks nicer now than it did on here. You can even see the address clearly on the high-def streetview. Its 113 Seagrave.

  • @musiclibrarygirl

4:50 is on Pale Moon crescent. You can see a shrub near the side of the road. The google view shows the "shrub" now a full-grown tree blocking view of the house.

  • @zambonitron I meant 5:01, oops

  • The music video looks like it shot on something like Kodakchrome. If so, it's very fitting for the era that Rush grew up in. This is what I got from watching the feature documentary on them.

  • I don't think young Alex looks right saying the "SUBDIVISIONS" bit, always pictured Neil doing it, plus he has the right speaking voice!

  • @IThinkYouLookLarvely Neil does do it on the album. That's his voice. It was just handed off to Alex for live performance because Neil was, well, hitting every drum in the history of percussion just then. And I say that with love.

  • my fav rush song, but the video needs serious work, it needs to be redone, so old, and even the edit timing looks bad, but love the boys of the band, blessings

  • Love this song, but its hard to listen to because there is a lot of flutter in the audio which is really noticeable when the synth is playing. Is this the way the song actually sounds? I thought this might only happen if the video was taken from an old VHS tape. I have tried various postings of the song on YouTube, but they all have that same issue.

  • Looks like my buddy Sasquatch Jim's Van at 2:33 -(throwin the fish in the back)

  • Life

  • I think Google should pay royalties to Rush for coming up with the google maps idea...

  • @bubbabear244 lolol awesome

  • I photographed RUsh in 75 and 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • Alex has the coolest haircut ever

  • At 2:23 starts one of the greatest riffs in the history of rock music.

  • Jesus, look how young Neil looked.

  • Great footage of the band in this video.....thanks for posting!!!

  • 4:57 Ooh... LSD

  • I remember that video game, and the haircuts, and the quality of video used. They seem like simple days back in the 1980s though tough as a teenager, just like teenagers for all generations.

  • MTV video, when it was actually music videos instead of a bunch of idiot posers with their heads firmly planted up there

  • OMFG, a Rush music video.... that (I can't believe I'm typing this) made sense. 0.0

  • Even though this song was released a year before I was born I can still relate to the kid in this video.

  • amazing song and amazing band

  • The suburban dream - make that NIGHTMARE

  • This song describes my life PERFECTLY...

  • The best 80's band!!!!

  • more than ever subdivisions are bigger than before main city,s become smaller.rush was even in 88 the headline in a rush. fantasic band

  • This song works perfectly for 2010.

  • As a resident of suburban toronto, seeing shots of the don valley parkway and the flyovers gave me chills.

  • I still can not beleve that Rush is not in the Rock n Roll hall of fame. They have totally been robbed of that honor, they are a great band with a unique sound and still sound great today!

  • Comment removed

  • @totallydoesntmatter I agree 100%.

  • This video was 20 years ago but is still the same today more then ever Subdivisions

  • This song was great live!!! So much commission just for three Canadians!!!

  • This is a great song about life in the suburbs and the overwhelming pressure to conform.

  • be cool or be cast out....

  • @wickedcurve Subdivisions.

  • The thinking person's rock band!

  • my fav Rush song of all time grew up liking them my parents were cool like that and now i can pass Rush to my kids :)

  • Does anyone know? Was the video of the city and the suburban house shot in Canada?

  • @blueberry72 Yes it was shot in Toronto, the school scenes were done at L'Amoreaux Collegiate Institute in Scarborough.

  • Awesome concert in Los Angeles. Seats were behind the lighted stage. Neal will always be the best!!!!

  • Can you imagine being the lead singer, playing the organ, and the bass all at the same time? Jesus, I can't even pee straight!! Why do I even bother to go on?

  • That's Toronto. I think the train at the start is a Go Train transversing the Don Valley Parkway. The city hasn't changed all that much in the last 28 years.

  • inesplicacel....magnifico!!!

  • The fact this band is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet is a damn tragedy!

  • What *fantastic* chord changes! Only 1,439 views?! A most heinous crime!!

  • I've always wondered what this song was about...

  • I wonder what neighborhood was used in that video.

  • Seriously, this is one of my favorite songs by them. Everytime I hear it, I get the taste of greasy pizza in my mouth and the smell of English Leather in the air. It brings me back to high school. Thank you very much for posting.

  • @2Cents I miss those days sometimes. Rush was one of my favorite bands in high school. This is awesome. I can remember playing that video game lol

  • @cgronlie hey,,that video game was called TEMPEST by atari. great times i had in the arcades playing it.

  • Man, we had some excellent hair back then, didn't we?

  • yay first comment!!!
