  • Move Sing ,Play, and Looks dayme good doin' it..Big ups to ya Barbara...

  • What I wouldn't give to have seen her perform (or perform with her) 45 years ago live in a small club.

  • Can't stop watching this clip since I found it yesterday! The way she plays that marked up Fender Esquire as she delivers that vocal is absolutely perfect. The song's perfect. The band's perfect. She's perfect. Just perfect.

  • Chuck Berry's piano player !!!!

  • Blown away. Awesome

  • How she plays that guitar...almost looks naughty!

  • Love the little trill on the high E at 0:24-27.

    Fine from start to finish!

    Damn.

  • Eat your heart out, Lady Ga Ga!

  • And Barbara's still hot as a pistol, living in Beaumont and performing frequently in Houston and Austin.

  • Wow! Never thought I'd see her do this live. Unbelievable. Better than the recording. When was this from?

  • (Jan.16th) Happy Birthday, Barbara Lynn!

  • 1-16-2012. Happy Birthday, Barbara Lynn.

  • That's sure enough the REAL DEAL and talent you can't find in popular music today. What a killer ensemble with Gatemouth Brown's lineup!!

  • BABS is SHO'NUFF' AWESOME!

  • How fucking cool is she?

  • She looks like the lady version of Jimi Hendrix

  • SWEET Soul Sista

  • @VinceNphilly - yup..

  • Whoaaaaa......The Woman is Unbelievable!! I can't stop watching Her

struming her guitar! She is Stunning, Beautiful voice & Classy.

  • The black folks back in the 50's, 60's and early 70's could sing and most all of them were DAMN GOOD

  • Dang! Why haven't I never heard of this pretty black honey playing some serious guitar. Thank GOD for youtube. This sister was way ahead of the game and yes she looks like a female J1M1.

  • Sweet 16 was a bad ass song on Women in Blues, why is it not on the Tube?

  • that guy can play the fuckin piano , no ? he was chuck berrys piano player !! Erik Vonderlieth

  • So far, 10 people on this earth are proven to be deaf.

  • left handed , rare,jimi,paul

  • What a totally cool lady! :) WOW xxx

  • Man, I just keep coming back to this song...and Barbara Lynn...Soul, Jazz, Rock&Roll all in one compelling sound...and her lyrics are so pertinent...Sorry I am so repetitive about this so great artist...The other musicians were also excellent blend...well appointed...Many of her songs were similar in context--somebody must have broken her heart...Her voice is compelling...I am running out of proper adjectives...

  • I love this song!! Where is she Now

  • great telecaster!

  • @peppinodeleo Esquire.

  • @oskartown nocaster?

  • Wow. She's not lipping it. Her voice sounds like a recording.

  • OMG, She plays "left" handed! You have to restring the guitar. I know. I'm

left handed and played the guitar in my teens.

I Loved Her Music in my Teens, Still do, I appreciate it more Now!

  • SwEeT LefTy LyNN!!!

  • Pure class!

  • totally

  • Dammmm, doesn't Anyone Notice that "Barbara" is playing & I mean playing

her guitar "Left Handed" She's all over it.......

Wow! I'd forgot about this talented lady.

This is the Perfection of "SOUL".

  • Get it sis!!!!

  • If that's actually a real Fender the bass player is playing, this can't be 1962, since block markers didn't appear on Fender basses until 1966. It looks like he's taken the neck from a 1966 or later Fender Jazz Bass and put in on a Fender Precision body of indeterminate age. That neck/body combination was common back then.

  • incredible piano

  • Listening to this takes me back to the Delta 68-69. Listening to Bobby Moore and "Searching for my Baby" and the flip side, I can't remember the name right now, this lady singin' this song on an Akai reel to reel smokin' a blunt with a bottle of Tiger Piss or 33 in my hand..............Good God !

  • She is too good from long ago................or maybe I am from too long ago....Vietnam, damn it,

  • LOVE THIS SONG

  • What may be an interesting slant on the video is that she could easily be Jimmy Hendrick's sister - look at the face!

  • Gotta love oldieSz

  • Anybody know where this appearance was?

  • @ete4 I think it was on 'The Beat!', an 'American Bandstand' type show out of Nashville in the 60's.

  • you can't dislike this song

  • How can you dislike this song???

  • Barbara you just cant tame my chicano soul

Judge me if you will but I lOVE latin breed better Girl.

  • @LaEskoh Your "chicano soul" obviously can't handle REAL soul music. This is the real right "chere" how it was meant to be done, not that watered down breed version.

  • @luvureally Just say you are a racist and you hate how other groups (hispanic) prefer to make their own version.

  • @LaEskoh Just say anybody, Chicano, Black, white, etc. that thinks New Breed version better than this must have their ears in their corn, bunion encrusted feet.

  • Funky

    Beautiful

    This guitar dying

  • ...great, great tune..a soul classic. And she plays left handed guitar like she owns it!!!

  • Is that Clarence Gatemouth Brown in the back of her guitar playing? It is him ! Wow!

  • Is that Clarence Gatemouth Brown in the back of her guitar playing?

  • awesome!

  • what a beautiful way to play the guitar and a gorgeous song, thank you for sharing

  • is she a sister of Jimi Hendrix?????If you looking good it must be!!!!!!!Great singing and playing wow wow!!!!

  • Hypnotized by her left hand.

But, if you look carefully, her right hand is just as amazing. I love her bad wig, her mole and the gap between her teeth, the set's !!!!. But she´s amazing and the pianist is so attuned to her!

  • Hypnotized by her left hand

  • Pure talent, class. Wow have never seen a woman play a guitar like that in the late 50's or early 60's. Wow again.

  • @empressofthefrench You Tube Sister Rosetta Tharpe

  • Fender's version is my favorite. But this is awesome.

  • anyone know who the piano player is?

  • @feedingmegrapes

He kind of looks like Johnnie Johnson, but That's just a guess..

  • LEFT HANDED GIRL

  • thank you thank you thank you for posting!

  • Very excellent! A great R & B women who can play as good as anybody! And that's the bottom line!

  • She's the greatest of all the female guitar/bass players and I just love how she plays like a few of the greatest, with a special touch of their own. I've heard she still perforforms sometimes. Awesome, go Ms. Lynn.

  • I use to listen to this song daily over 30 years ago! thanks for the wonderful memories.

  • Gobsmacked!!!

  • IF I HAD U BARBARA I'D MAKE SURE TO NEVER LOSE YOU.

  • This is the raw version WOW! i love it.

  • this is great!! what an awesome song!! not too mention she plays a Telecaster and wears finger picks the same type of set up i use i was in love right away!!

  • Southern soul ..

  • A #1 hit for Barbara Lynn on the Rhythm & Blues charts in 1962. It was the 94th #1 R&B hit of the Rock Era.

  • Damn...Barbara Lynn, besides having a provocative and sweet/clear voice...was also damn attractive...This song, and her, has me captured.....She has touched on something too heavy in this beautiful but sad song...

  • Every time I listen to this song it becomes better...Flambrosia--you are sure right that her band is exceptional...Just a great production. Something about her is so compelling besides her blues/jazz so cool sound...I just can't describe it with the proper words...

  • yeah baby

  • The Best!!! I am full of Love for her. And her kick ass band...

  • There is a reason some people are called Legends. She is most certainly in a class al by herself.

  • A classic

  • This is the best song. This Barbara Lynn is all soul/heart...broken soul/heart...What a supreme sound...sad but maybe....my life stops when I hear her...Damn, am I lucky enough to hear her sing this???!!!This lady was damned amazing but not heard of so much...So special...Man she hit this song just right..

  • What talent, you don't see this anymore.

  • I love the Fender Esquire . Great vid. This show was on TV in Dallas when I was young.

  • Ace, thanks for sharing!!!!!

  • HELL YESS. REAL MUSIC

  • WOW! Didn't realize that this clip was "live"....I used to live in Houston,Texas....and I

once visited the "Crazy Cajun" (Huey P. Meaux) Recording Studios....there on the

wall was BARBARA LYNN'S debut album for Atlantic Records...it would be about

20 years later I'd meet her in person in Hollywood,California (at the now-defunct

"Jacks' Sugar Shack-I was doing music reviews.)

Some kind of old ad for CD"s of Oldies music had this clip....but they never offered the video,LOL!!

  • Makes you wish you had a date this weekend with a lefthanded babe. Oh yeah.

  • Love it!

  • lIke it!!!

  • wow she can play my guitar any day!!

  • It's cool to see her strumming that guitar with her left hand :)))

  • if i was a man back in those days i would marry that women <3

  • She's my baby...

  • Now tell me this:

Is there anything sexier than seeing a LADY play a six-string and sing so elegantly? I think not.

  • 2 thumbs up!!!

  • SEVEN PEOPLE DON'T THINK THEY WILL LOSE A GOOD THING? (they probably must be "children)", lol

  • She's awesome! Can't believe she's newly discovered for me!

  • I don't understand all the talk about Jimi Hendrix. Yes, they're both from the same decade, they're both left-handed, they're both guitarists and they're both black, but that's where the similarities ends. They got practically nothing in common when it comes to their guitar techniques, and even less when it comes to genre.

  • @OnkelMickwald I don't know...the first time I saw this video, it really did remind me of Jimi Hendrix. I saw him play two times when I was younger. As far as technique goes, I can't say but really, the way she moved or "something" DID remind me of Hendrix. I love this video and agree with laziolorenzo's and xxpiggystardustor's comments above. she is pretty hot playing/caressing that left handed guitar....and I LOVE this jam...from the olden days...lol

  • she can play left handed too

  • AHHHHH THIS IS MY FRIEND'S GRNADMOTHERRRRRR!!!

  • @coolangel834 ....Your friend should be very proud!!! Alot of children were born to this song!!

  • @coolangel834 Very cool!

  • @coolangel834 Are you serious? I grew up with this song.

Is Barbara from the Bay area? (I.E. San Francisco)?

  • @ekocentric Not sure where she's from..but I know that she lives in Texas.

  • @coolangel834 No way!!! That's so cool! SHE is so cool! Great song beautiful voice!

  • @coolangel834 No way!!! That's so cool! SHE is so cool! Great song beautiful voice! Love the left handed telecaster. Awesome!

  • Wow Bad ass!

  • So amazing, very sexy, I love Barbara Lynn so much, she is a gift of soul music.

Thank you for posting this video.

  • WOW talk about SEXY

  • Notice all of her strumming is done on the upstroke!

  • Is she related to Hendrix?

  • How do you like this one Mimi

  • Have to keep coming back to Barbara Lynn..What the hell, Friday nite again...She picks that guitar pretty good while singing this great song...So compelling...Is she still around? Anybody know her? Should have been way more famous than I ever knew her to be....

  • Reminds me of The Parker"s Dance Partys in Montclair, NJ at the Womens Club on Unuon street.

  • What year was this? What tv show? Great post!

  • @nicodagger

This is a show for rhythm and blues from the mid-sixties in Dallas, Texas with a white host. I can't remember the name but I have seen other performances from it and I think it is on dvd. I saw it at the Texas Music History Museum in Hillsboro, Texas. Really cool show, considering that Gatemouth Brown was the band leader.

  • Sometimes just have to keep replaying this song...wonder who Barbara Lynn really is...style so unique, voice right on..arrangement just right.. Heard this song longer ago and it just stays in the memory...apologize for repeating my posts.

  • This is a powerful song, but a good song. Make you think song, while you are enjoying the singer's talent..and style...Barbara Lynn was doing some singing thinking for a long time, here...but she is so precious with her sound.. Song even more pertinent today.. Sharonanony, are you okay?

  • Comment removed

  • That is awesome! Especially the LH Telly! Love the little riff at 0:26. Thanks for posting this.

  • Been listening to her from long time ago but can't get this song out of my head..

Perfect song by Barbara..she just hits this just right all over..message is right on, too good..this girl is an icon...damn, the arrangement is just right, too, not too fancy, Damn, she is singing out right from her blues heart..

  • Rita , quit me again yaw

  • She's just OUTSTANDING! I would LOVE for her to play around here! What happened to musicians like this?!?!?!?!

  • a true soul masterpiece perhaps it played also a vital role in moving female singers away from girl groups at this time.

  • Hell yeah!

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful!

  • have to hear this once a week

  • she's truly amazing, was probably one of my first oldies songs I ever liked.

  • Great stuff........

  • Great Barbara Lynn! Great feeling, voice and guitar! I like this song very much (by Barbara Lynn first in 1962 as a ballad; later she did re-record it in a more soul style). Aretha Franklin recorded it in 1964. But Dee Dee Sharp recorded it in 1962 or 1963 in a nice rendition, too. I like all four recordings. (from Brazil)

  • She performs with FEELING. Do you hear that, Britney, Gaga, and Rihanna?

  • And Soulful

You Have To Appreciate all the talent she has

  • no the girl was bad on bad
