  • branded man......my self,205 394 not proud of it,but I showed them that a man can and will change...With the love of a good woman, and the will to make change....I now stand PROUD!!!!

  • 1 dislike damn who knowes it must be stupid not to love merle

  • The best....

  • i love the old school classic country, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings etc. other than todays crap country awlays taikn bout how they let there women down and left him/her. Way to many songs of that crap even though these guys had music like that but not as much. i know its just a song/s but if u treated ur women better, she would have never left, keep ur relationship to urself and could make better songs other than this.

  • Fuck the country music these days. Merle haggard goes hard!

  • Well shoot, I thought this was a David Allan Coe song. What do you know, it was old Merle. Great song

  • Lovely

  • no such thing as reformed, just hardened... love ya work merle... always will

And that's the truth. Merle sure didn't have it easy even as a child, as both of his parents were blind.

  • sooo coool . I luv it

  • Love this song. But ya know, there are lots of people that have slipped off the straight road and unlike those that promise anything to keep up a life of crime, they try their hardest to keep on the right path and when it starts to look good some idiot makes a comment or a gesture is made to single out the "Individual" . Merle understood this and we have a beutiful song not only for our pleasure but also it offers a kind of therapy for those who wont give up. Thanks for posting this.

  • This song was meant for a man I know well,me.

  • Life is what you make it and Merle made a good out of a bad. With only a month out, after a dozen in, I can say that this man not only knew what he was talking about but was blessed enough to accurately express it in song. Branded but never broken.

Today's country music is putrid and makes me want to puke.

  • its very true songi live it every day thanks for posting

  • I find grace and understand from Jesus and this song goes out to all the "Good Christans" who bad mouth and reject people who have made mistakes!! I believe Jesus would be prewaching to us sinner drinkers and fighting folks!!!!! Not those santified "Good folks" after all what do they need Jesus for?

  • A NYC redneck, no one could belt it out like Merlie. locked up and put away let merle sing for all those chained and balled with life.

  • Danny, this song is great. Jimbo says so. Fuck the idiots,

  • this is country

  • Merle seems to have a knack for singing prison songs. He's the best!!!

  • Merle to me my friends is one of the best singers that has ever lived,I still enjoy listening to these tunes today

  • I feel you dawg. Classification through incarceration. That $#@& ain't right.

  • Awesome song..I'm branded also,so i understand how he was felling when he wrote this..

  • I used to listen to this song over and over as a kid.

Merle Haggard lived his music, rising from prison to become the greatest artist in country music history, in my opinion.

  • i love this song! these old country songs are about life. i love all the legends of country music!

  • GREAT!

  • merle please get well soon! john

  • try to imagine the experiences and emotions that led up to the writing of this classic. it is more than a perfect country song. john

  • It makes it so much better when it was "lived"!

  • i agree 1,ooo%! your friend, john

  • this is what country music is about...real life and real people...

  • i agree 1,ooo%! :)

  • I have spent the last week on this site listening to GREAT COUNTRY & WESTERN. The music we have on the radio now does not compare. I don't think we will have the careers in Country Music we have seen in the past. I don't listen to the radio station, because I don't think they respect it when they refuse to play the older country music that is about life and not some weird twisted glorified flaunt. Hope this makes sense.

  • perfectly stated.

  • unlike so many recording 'artists' today that glorify the criminal life style, merle displays regret, remorse for his past. merle turned his life around. he attempted and was able to attain rehabilitation. after he was reformed, he went on to create the best music in the history of country. john

  • You "DO" have a way with words........thanks again for all your comments and true facts!

  • @jhrunion That's an excellent observation.

  • @hayesman76 why, thank you.

  • merle lived this song. he knows these feelings first hand. your friend, john

  • He sure did! (This is one of my fav's of his!)

  • @jhrunion Damn strait long live haggard

  • @jhrunion yes he deos
