  • Gemini was easily one of the best songs on GH.

  • Sounds like an opening theme for a tv show :D

  • those are wise words, training the ear and such. keep it up brian

  • God damn, i totally love that blues improvisation. All i can do is stare in awe... and practise.

  • you're a great guitarist. great feel and touch on the strings,

    excellent thick tone as well.

what is your opinion on alnico 2 vs alnico 5 for the bridge pickup? versatility, warmth, response, etc.

  • dam this guy is so good and clean cheers mate!

  • hey BK, just wanted to say I admire your talent and music, the one thing I request is that you come to the east coast!!!!!!!! maybe house of blues in boston, you have some serious fans out there who would love to hear some great tunes from " real life"!!!

  • Thank you!

I would love to come the the east coast...

Hopefully one of these days I can literally get this show on the road.. till then be on the lookout for my third CD dropping in Spring 2010..

  • @sidewindermusic DC loves you too!!!

  • brian post a blues video dude

  • Need some advice, I have never had or tried a lovepedal, but they sound Awesome online. i need help choosing between the Amp50 or the Eternity FUSE. Please write back.

    Kris..

  • COT 50 Kris.. :)

  • BK, im finally going to do my first gig that is going to be on the radio and my nerves are already racking, any advice on what i should do when i do finally have to get up on stage?

  • Stand tall and just remember it only Rock and Roll!

  • Hello all,

I started off reading tab but then studied Classical Guitar at The University of North Texas where I learned to read music. I also had a great teacher when I was in High School who really encouraged me to learn by ears as well. It all counts towards being the best musician you can be!

  • with the whole playing by ear thing, i didnt know it really was that important until my 3rd year of playing. i got into a guitar tech class at school and my teacher said it really is an amazing gift, that's all i know. still to this day i dont know how to read tabs. i just dont wanna waste my time when i can be playing guitar lol. about 75 percent of the songs i know, i learned by listening to the music, and every once in a while a friend teaches me top play something. i am proud i was blessed.

  • yea it's true don't start out with tabs, do it by ear. If you want to use tabs just use it to help you get started off, don't do the entire song by tabs.

  • ive completely tabbed out his blues improv lol.. i liked it that much... i tabbed your IMPROV.. so cool .. love your style !

  • :) Cheers!

  • :p with corona :) !

  • hey... is that really briann.??? wow.... i wnna play like you.... your very good.. ive played your gemini in guitar hero... wow it was awsome.... a can play it all day.... damn very good...

i wanna learn your blues style...

  • Hi there

Yep its me.. I figure if you can take the time so can I :)

  • completely agree with you, when i started at 7,i lived and breathed tabs. but about 5 or 6 years ago i got a really impressive ear that appeared out of nowhere. now when i'm at school, i can play the chords in my head and write songs like im playing the guitar. but ive been in situations where im at a gig and have never played the song. so i just turn on the ear and jump in. it has gotten me so much farther in my playing its just crazy

  • Very cool Kris!

  • Also, what you are saying about tabs, and not using your ears, I completely agree on. I have been thinking about it a lot, and I have also been a bit concerned if I am maybe losing a lot of experience when I just google tabs when I want to learn a new song...

So to start with, I am going to get the intro to Gemini by my self. And once that has been done I am going for the rest of the song.

  • My god, I am soo SUBSCRIBING!

This is unbelievable! just went to my friend yesterday, and we desided to play Guitar Hero II, and we stumbled across this amazing song, Gemini, which we played over and over like ten times before I had to go home. I thought that guy Brian Kahanek was going to be this legend from way back that I still just had not come across, and now I see he has a youtube channel, AND replies to comments!

As I said, I am soo subscribing!!!

  • Hi there... thanks for the kind words! great to have you by and for you to lend your ears.

  • that was some dirrrrty blues alright! nice work 5*

  • You are a true blues/jazz musician PERIOD, just by the way you play the music, you can tell it comes from the heart. That lick u just played is a perfect example of a solo. started off nice and mellow, it became mild, then climax, and then back to mild, never mellow again. I play sax and some blues guitar, and this is exactly how its meant to be done! Thanks for keepin this music alive

  • Thank you man!

  • i have 5 inspirational guitarists that keep me going on playing guitar religiously every day, and you definately are one of them. i appreciate that, you actually read comments made by fans and reply to them, rock on man.

    -Blake

  • Cheers to you Blake... that is quite an honor to inspire others to play. Comments like yours make my day!

    Happy Holidays

    BK

  • Cheers to you all for coming by and listening. I don't mean to come off harsh in regards to learning by ear... but I truly believe that is the only way to really get on the right track as a true musician. I have used tabs and sheet music to help out and still do.. but there is an art to listening.

    Rock On!

    BK

  • lol i've heard this musik in guitar hero and i must say that i'm fuckin crazy to learn it this is just perfect

  • i have alot of favorite musicians. i think you are a mix of all of them. your a true inspiration. you'll have to give me a lesson or tips when i see you at namm

    -Kris

  • Hello Kris,

I don't have a schedule yet for NAMM. but I will be with SOLID CABLES this year.. come on by... and thanks for the great comments.

    BK

  • Ok, Let me know when you get your schedule.

    :-)

  • i hate tabs. i rely 100% on my ear. how old were you when you started playing. i started when i was 7. so almost 9 years.

  • Wow!! This guy is definitely in the zone right now! I think I just fell in love with guitar again...

  • good point! I learned to play drumz by ear...

    never lost a gig...

  • this video amazes me and reminds me why i play the guitar

  • :-)

  • Oh yh I am learning your song mostly threw tab , however not all is right so i do have to change alot of it using my hearing . I will get there though learning by ear :D

  • Your a big inspiration to me , i first heard you on guitar hero 2 along with The Allmond Bro's song Jessica and both songs were full of emotion and you cant express this emotion and dedication threw pressing 5 colourerd buttons ! So i just had to borrow my dads guittar and im currently learning them both right now .

Thanks for getting me into playin 'real' guitar :)

  • It is my pleasure and honor to inspire another to play. That's what it is all about...Music! Don't get discouraged work through the beginning stages and you will be rewarded!

    Rock on!

    BK

  • I have a Fender Starcaster starter kit with a Frontman 15R amp, and i was wondering which i should upgrade first, my guitar, or amp, and what to? If you could reply it would help, thanks! I really love your music!

  • Hi Michael...

I would suggest finding the right guitar first... When you find the right PRS / Fender or Gibson they are hard to beat...

Best of luck on your search!

  • You're so right here, my friend has a fender strat and my old teacher had several gibson les pauls. I absolute hate the strat, and although i prefer the les pauls, my favourite guitar is still my budget line prs se standard, and i doubt i'll ever buy another electric guitar until i can afford a custom shop prs, and even then it'll only be marginally different to my current one.

  • Wow, could you play that again and record it this time? lol

  • This is awesome dude. Your my insperation. I love your style! Check out my channel. Ive been playin for 3 or 4 years.

  • Awesome man.... keep on!

  • dude, brian this was my favorite song on guitar hero 2. it always made me feel so good. i played it everyday. thx for such a great song.

  • :-) Thank you!

  • i learnt some of gemini by ear and have it on my ipod and i can never get bored of its tuneful wonders!!! thanks brian for creating such a lovely track :) i tried to buy ur album here in england and no1 knew who you were. i was v dissapointed!

  • Thank you man!

My CD's are iTunes or @ CDbaby... check my site.

  • Hey, Brian, I love your songs! And I'm not just saying that because I aced Gemini on Medium in GHII, I'm thinking about getting a real guitar. Would you recommend any specific kind or brand?

  • Thanks!

Play a strat, and Tele, and a Les Paul and see which one is most comfortable to hold.

I love both Gibsons and Fenders but there are so many choices that it really depends on what you want or just think looks cool ;-)

I hope the guitar brings you as much joy as is has for me.

    BK

  • Thanks. I was thinking about getting a Metallic Blue Strat, I've heard that the Squiers are good beginner guitars. I'll be sure to try the Tele and Les Paul, though.

    Thanks again!

    -Rabin

  • If you are a beginner, then do what he said about the feeling the guitars, but get a brand like Epiphone or Squire.

  • hey man just wondering if the guitar pro tab of your song gemini is correct, thanks a lot, youre great!

  • :-)

Don't really know what that is... you can download the official tab from the Gibson site.

Hit them up on myspace or search their site.

    Cheers

    BK

  • man,,the rhythm's so great

  • man,,ur my idol..do u have an album??

    ,.

  • Hey man, any chance we could get some records of yours here in Brazil ? Wanna listen the whole thing, not just what was youtube'd. I'll pay whatever it takes.

  • Hi

Check my website - you can order both of my CD's From CDbaby - they ship internationally!

    Cheers and thanks!

    BK

  • Purchased both. Should be arriving soon, already got the UPS tracking number. Thanks!

  • Cost me 64 dollars (discs + shipping + taxes) to get both CDs. Was worth every cent. Loved it, in particular your statement in "Real Life" about manufactured stars: SO TRUE !

  • With all the people "Sharing" music these days - the fact that you went way beyond to purchase is the highest compliment!

It is people like you who will help me fund making my next one.

    Thanks!

    BK

  • Brian is an impressive guitarist.

It is because of musicians like him that I continue to improve my skills and find pleasure in doing so. Thanks for doing what you do best.

  • Best kinda compliment thanks!

  • What's so cool about your playing is, that there are probably many great past guitarists who you grew up listening to. But in today's music and the guitar being a shrinking item, no one plays it like it was meant to be played. You do a great job Brian. I hope you take over the radio man.

  • Cheers to you.. and everyone who has posted on my vids and space. I am not too worried about Radio and or "Making it big". Great music and popularity seldom go hand in hand.

    Keep on pickin'

    BK

  • well said, i just envy everyone who used to turn on the radio and have Zeppelin all OVER IT!! ha, later

  • Please don't get me wrong when I say this, but you sure reminds me Richie Kotzen playing.

I mean, you sure have your own style, but I felt a little somthing something of master Richie there hahahha

Great song, and there are already great people making great covers around here =]

One day I'll play it too!

  • actually i do agree. you are both great guitarists. this song reminds a lot of some songs from the album "native tounge" with Poison, to you guys who have heard it.

    Great song Brian, Rock on!

  • dude gemini is my favorite song ever!!!!!!!!!!!! you freekin rockxD

  • :-) !!!

  • Hi! Brian I am the one who posted the video you requested as a video response. I have bought you album and my favorite track on there is Gemini. What kinda amp and guitar are you running there.

I hope the video I have put up about gemini has brought you more album sales. I suggest anybody who likes the blues to buy his album. Also what kinda amp and guitar are you running there.

  • Cheers Jarred! Thanks for helping spread the word. And thanks to all of you on this video for stopping by. The amp I using is my home practice amp - Tech 21 Trademark 10 with a lovepedal COT50 for boost.

    Keep on pickin' a grinnin'!

    BK

  • Couldn't agree more about tabs, not only is a trained ear great for learning songs fast and independently, but it also makes for a great party trick when you can play any song right the first time, people do like to sing songs at parties :p Tabs are often wrong anyway.

  • dude you totally rule! Gemini is my fav song on GH2, and you influenced me to pick up a real guitar and start playing! I have an epiphone les paul special 2 with dimarzio steve vai evolution pickups to get that "blues/swing" feel.

  • Love it..

    Give it hell!

  • Brian, what amps would you reccomend me to buy? I recently posted my current set up.

  • Some thing with tubes.... Marshall / Fender / Budda / Elmwood / VHT are all great.

  • i have put your song to shame(99k on expert)

    *shoves sword through gut*

    mmm...tasty!

    *thud*

  • Hey Brian beautiful playing and tone. Are those the Sheptone pup's in your 58?

  • Muchas Gracias

In This clip I had Dimarzio Virtual PAF's.

I have since switched to Sheptones and Stock Burstbuckers :-)

  • Who was your bassist during your recording?

  • The one and only Chris Golden :-)

  • Hey, I love your songs, but I would like to know if you can help me. I am learning guitar, my first and only electric guitar is a Fender Starcaster my amp is a Frontman 15 R. I try playing some songs im learning, and the sound nothing like the real songs it is doesnt have a twang, are you using another device to make that, or is my guitar just not suppose to sound that good. Could you recommend what I should get for a new amp and/or guitar? Feel free to PM me. Thanks!

  • Hey,I have the exact setup as you currently, and no it's not going to sound amazing. The amp is what generates most of the sound, so if I were you I would buy a new amp before a new guitar, but that's just me. There probably are some effects he's using or it's just his amp making the sound. Your guitar would sound better if you had a better amp, so check out some better amps like a Marshall or maybe a Vox or something, depending on what kind of sounds you like. Hope this helps;) Peace out.

  • Thanks for the help, Im gonna get money soon, maybe enough for a new one, but thanks!

  • Hey Brian..open the gibson giveaway contest to Canadian guitar players!! I think you already checked out my vid of Gemini, but anyways keep rockin..i love your stuff!!

  • Hey

    Very cool performance...great ear.

I wish I could open it up to everyone... but the rules where made by Gibson and there are international legal concerns that are way over my legal mind ;-)

Thanks man - hope to see you on tour in the great white north!

    BK

  • ohh man... i'd join this guy's contest... but i live in australia... so i can't... BK rocks!

  • Hello Down Under!

    Caught your clip.. very cool!

and you have the pickup selections down and great bends!

Wish Gibson could do the international thing but I hope to see you guys on tour next year.

    Keep on movin them fingers!

    BK

  • hey thnkz man... yeah i hope they could do the international thing... ohh well... btw i learnt the song by ear aswell so yeah... thnkz for the compliment!

  • awesome guitarist.

  • May I know what amp you're using? Cheers!

  • ;-)

My practice amp... a Tech 21 Trademark 10.

  • are you seriously brian? cause if so your freaking amazing.

  • Yep thats me...

I do my own stunts ;-)

    And thanks!

  • That was awesome, you kick ass. love your Lp too

  • Hello All

    BK

  • they havnt released the real song tabs for this song yet but it should be out soon

  • thats so true

  • please if anyone can tell me where to find tabs for this song post comment i really wanna know because i love this song!!

  • god I love this song, and you kick ass at it man, keep it rockin, I've tried to play this song so many times

  • i wish he played the whole song

  • What a crazy world, huh :P First (almost) nobody heard of Brian, but after the release of Guitar Hero II he's a hot item :D

  • its sounds like a variation of black math by the white stripes which can be found on the album elephant. listen to it you will find its extremely similar

  • this guy's really good wow im definitly impressed

  • i knew it!! he rocks ever since i heard gemini on guitar hero i said "wow this guy rock" but now that i know well how cool he can jam hes cool well cooler than i tought =)

  • Suicide King rocked....and still does!

  • i have been looking at tabs to figure out how to play song, and when i cant find a tab for a song i like, i am skrewed!! btw does any one know guitar world this tab is going to be in?????

  • damnit, BK owns

  • wow what a kickass blues riff, dude ur awesome

  • what da fuck is this!?!?!??!?!??!?!

just awsome i just lay down in his shoes

  • this song is really relaxing nd osunds good

  • Isn't that a Gibson Les Paul? If it isn't it sure does look like one.

Im trying to get one on eBay, but they are so expensive, even used old ones cost at least $300-$500. Brian do you think you could give me one? Im sure you have the money :p

  • *cough*...if your not willing to spend more than 500 dollars stop looking for a good guitar.

  • *cough*....Go fuck yourself

  • Good point. I bought my Les Paul for about 800$ some seven years ago, and that's a real bargain anywhere I believe, unless you're looking for a guitar with no pickups or a broken neck.

  • asshole, let him be

  • this guy has one of the best tones ive heard ever on a guitar

  • the next SRV right there.

  • Brian Kahanek is kick ass

  • The only problem with tabs, like he said, is that later on down the road you can't addapt to original material as quickly. So if you're looking to be a rythem guitarist, go for tabs. But if you want to make some truly original music and have an understanding about adaptation and improvisation, I'd take playing by ear any day. Its all choice.

  • he doesnt have the time, what the freak is he doing in the mean time?

  • tabs beat listening any day

  • thats cuz u have no talent moron

    :)

  • shut up, assface

  • ahh you know im right

    and so does brian

  • tabcrawlerdotcom, has the best tab for this song

  • Awesome guitar man!! :D I'm still working on it myself! you did great though.

  • hes good and this is a good song

  • total badass. he's got awfully "stratty" tone for playing a les paul. great fuckin' tone.

  • i wanna learn how to play this song on the real guitar .

  • He has a point. Training your ear is a good thing.

  • this guy is such a douche though ...his song is great but who gives a fuck how to learn guitar. If he wants to take the time to develop perfect pitch fine...but don't say ...oh... you guys who dont practice like I did are going to be bad later on...wtf...if this guy could even get a show I wouldn't see it

  • Wow ... looks like we know who the real douche is now...

Good luck with all that hate...

  • two words,fuck off,brian kahanek rocks you don't.

  • go fuck yourself you idiot. You probably have the world's smallest dick. He's giving advice on guitar, and just because you suck at life doesn't mean you can make fun of him. crap. spice girls rule

  • yea if hes a really great guitarist and he says somethin like that hes right listening to stuff by ear will help you later im only 17 but ive been playin guitar since i was 8 i know this stuff and i rarely use guitar tabs

  • anyone who has pp tab this song on ultimate guitar tabs

  • Those Dimarzios sound sweet.

    Those leads were screaming.

  • yea i learned it in 5 min. i thought it was harder than it was :D

  • i agree with brian. its better to tab songs out yourself.

  • guys, really HEARING music is so important. spend time everyday trying to figure out the music instead of whining for tab all the tab. JUST LIKE BRIAN SAID. it helps you later when you are writing music.

  • Seriously, it's not that hard to pick up the main riff if you just listen to it and work on it. The fills get pretty technical; but you should be able to put some stuff in there that sounds cool as long as you know your scales and progressions.

Like Brian said, try transcribing it yourself. If you really get stuck then check out a tab.

  • I tabbed it out if anyone wants them just msg me.

  • could you give it to me i can only find on on ultimate-guitar but its nto great... thaks

  • send it my way dude....the gemini tabs

  • Dude send here...PLZ

  • yo can i have it

  • did you guys not listen to anything he just said?

  • I WANT TABS TO GEMINI

  • ME TO I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!
