wow such serious technical talking about guitar players when all comes down to its who can combine decsent skills with great riffs and just groove out so you can just be absorbed by the sounds, there are many great guitarist in the professional world (malmstene-via-)and so on but did thy really grab the soul when they played?
Frusciante is more overrated than Hendrix, Vai, Satriani etc. If you are after emotional playing that blows Frusciante out of the water then listen to David Gilmour.
John: Thank you for surviving all that this existence has subjected you to, you are an inspiration and a testament to the strength and love of the human spirit. I have been sending my brotherly love your way from the moment I became aware of you and your sensibility. The Empyrean is a fucking masterpiece. You are a masterpiece. Thank you again for your insightful stylings of mind, melody, and spirit...I definitely feel your lines.
I see how this could be compared to Maggot Brain but this is less flashy and more trippy. On MB Hazel loves his wah and legato, John does both of those on this track just not as much still a great track.
Not "Influenced" by Maggot Brain, either an homage, version or thinly modified rip. Listen them back to back and realize Maggot Brain was done in the 70's.
ok i normally don't post texts on this site but some of these comments are getting to be rediculous. john frusciante is the BEST all around guitar player of our generation. If you've ever watched a slew of live performances you would never say navarro is a more technical guitar player. what makes john so versitile and unforgetible is his uncanny ability to forget about trying to make people say he is the greatest guitar player in the world today. instead he makes you think.u should be crying
even though frusciante clearly is; you don't need to be immensely technical to be a "god". he is extremely creative and when you listen to his previous work you can hear the emotion he is describing. my biggest idol
It's okay, but I certainly think he's an overrated guitarist. I love his music, and the Chili Peppers, hence why i'm here so early, because I just went to HMV and apparently british release date is 36th, but seriously, compare this to Maggot Brain, you will realise that John Frusciante is no 'god', (despite the will to death being a great album), he is just very good to listen to. Technically, Navarro was far better, but I prefer Frusciante.
wanniator-How is John Frusciante overrated? I bet you could not answer this question insightfully. I bet you also couldn't answer why you think Dave Navarro is a technically better guitarist. I'd be willing to bet you know nothing of technique and your depth of thought regarding the subject goes little beyond how fast someone plays.
I bet I could answer this question insightfully, I think John Frusciante is a very good guitarist, but 18th in Rolling Stones all time list suggests he is overrated. Mike Mccready didn't make the list; he is better in my opinion. Now techinically, metall players like Malmsteen, Rhodes, Mustaine, Friedman and I honestly think if you just want innovation Jonny Greenwood is better. So stop looking for arguments. I've never heard such a ridiculous, childish riposte as one that begins 'i bet you '.
Like I said, no insight. Insight has analysis, comparing, contrasting, etc... You only provided blanket opinions with some name-dropping. But thinking in terms of who is better than who is a very amateur approach. You're assuming that you have complete knowledge of what a certain player can and can't do when it's completely impossible to assess that. You can call me childish as much as you want, but you're just covering up for your lack of thoughtful perception on the subject matter.
Mike McCready rarley writes music, just guitar parts over Eddie and Stone's songs. Metal shredders are just one very limited aspect of guitar playing, and Johnny Greenwood doesn't play guitar on half of Radiohead's songs. John is the best guitar player in the world.
out of this world! it's so fucking genuine.

first few seconds of hearing this i can hear some influence from Eddie Hazel, at least with maggot brain. hope john will keep making music....

if you knew anything about guitar, you wouldn't be arguing with people about it on youtube, you would be playing.

I Would Say:
It's about creating a beautiful piece of art, not realising or caring that you're the best guitarist.
Amazing Song, Amazing Album!

ur so right he dosent focus on being a virtuoso but emphasizes feel, emotion and experimentation in the same way as god ( hendrix ) did.

neh very creative and soul-driven... but honestly not the best guitar player in the world..
to claim that you have to know every single guitar player playing at their best, which is practically impossible lol
for his psychedelic funk bluesy type of music i think frusciante is one of the best.. now guitar in general? no..

i think comparing guitarists is fairly overrated..you just have favorites!

i know its been said multiple times, but i feel the need to reiterate that navarro is in no way technically or otherwise better than john frusciante

Which I ABSOLUTELY love. Michael Hampton is one of my favourite guitarists ever.

eddie hazel did that track.
funny how the first not is actually the first one in the maggot brain solo

I know, I can't belive I got mixed up, Hazel is far more emotional than Hampton, I far prefer him. Still Hampton was very good.
