  • Yesterday, I used your swing with no practice beforehand, magnificant. I did not hit one slice or shank. by the end of the round I didn't even have to think about the swing. My follow thru finished with the club hitting my back. It was a bizarre experience. Thank you for sharing.

  • @asop02 That is really great to hear. I know the main reason this kind of club face has been frowned upon is, the ball will go left when you don't turn. With a Traditional golf swing, the turn stops half way and the hands and arms past the body turn closing the face, but if you keep turning you get to have a square club face during the entire swing. If the ball does go left, it also reminds you that you didn't turn (or flipped). Thanks for the validation. Ross

  • To add to my last comment, after changing to this square club face take away, I especially pay attention to different pro's take away and release action (ie, either square to square or open to close). Tiger Woods and Adams Scott, they were open and close, Other one planners like Lee Westwoods, use square to square and that's why Lee's swing is so consistent.

  • Absolutely agreed. My pro taught me this move few months back and I was scratching my head because Davie Leadbetter did not teach this. The feel was strange but the results were amazing, just 10 minutes of practicing, I was hitting rock solid irons. Since I changed to play this way, I almost hit every green in regulation with a 7 or higher iron. Never happened to me before and I was a 20 handicapper. I shot a 81 after 2 months changed to this swing.

  • Do you use a string grip for this type of swing???

  • @Patchkaa33 I am not familiar with the term "String" but I am using an interlocking grip. The little finger of my right hand and the first finger of my left hand, wrap around each other or interlock.

  • @DUPLESSISGOLF I think he means a strong grip.

  • i actually tried this i LOST 85 yards and couldnt get the ball more than 5 ft off the ground, ask bob toski (best teacher in the WORLD) about his golf swing, he'll tell you to go teach beginners and 80 year old people who are about to die.

  • a few simple points explained well, i've been working on my own swing for a while now and not turning my body through and hitting left is a big issue or me. i'll try this tomorrow along with getting my body around better and report back :D

  • thank you so much this explained alot! god bless

  • Can you add hand action to shape shots? eg to hit it low and hit it high, but only doing so from a similar position at the top? Or would you advise what Jack Nicklaus advocates, and hood and open the club at address and change the ball positions? I would think there are cases where you want repeating ball flights, but different ball flights around the course.

  • @NeonSloaney Yes you can just slightly open or close the club face at setup then just turn through the shot and get a slight draw or cut. The key is to not rely on the hands to open and close during the swing... not repeatable. Great question... thanks

  • It is not about club head speed for consistant distance. It is about centerdness of your hits on the club face. If your hands are moving the club head through impact, you will miss the center much more than if the Large Muscles are. The hips & shoulders will act like they should, like throwing a ball. They will unwind and sling your arms and club through. You will end up with much more power and very reliable direction.

  • They same thing happen to me taffbanjo. But I been told I loose club head speed. Is this true?

  • I thought that I had just discovered this for myself until I saw your video - it was an epihany! Now my swing is so effortless, by comparison, that I almost feel as if I'm cheating.

All those years of sweat and strain - so unnecessary.

  • @taffbanjo Yes, and the "Key" is the combination...Square face and the Complete turn starting with the hips and unwinding all the way to the finish (with passive hands)... thanks, Ross

  • Yes, they are already half hinged at address. Once you learn to maintain Neutral Grip Pressure during the swing, and allow the shoulders to PUSH the arms and club to the top of the swing, the weight of the club will NATURALLY HINGE your wrists due to inertia. When this happens, the left wrist will look flat (or even bowed out) at the top (for a right handed player). This will have the leading edge 90 degrees to the plane or SQUARE. Again this happens naturally due to momentum.

  • @DUPLESSISGOLF Great video. Worked on this at the range lastnight. One question I have is I was hitting a little fat. When I connected it really added distance to my irons. I seemed to hit fat and my ball flight was a little left to right.

Any thoughts on why I could be hitting fat?

    Thanks!

  • @ijp66 Yes! Ball position needs to be more forward. Remember the longest length of the golf swing is directly below the left shoulder (right hander). If the ball is a little before this point, you will either have to flip to save it or hit fat because the club is still traveling down to get to the longest point (under left shoulder). This is only if you are hitting ball first (and fat). If you hit behind the ball (ground first) , you are throwing the club head with your hands before impact.

  • I agree with you about the hand and clubface position.I need to ask you though, don't you not want to cock the wrist at all?If you you take the club back with the large muscle, which is correct won't cocking the wrists just cause them to cup, which requires a manipulation during the downswing to square them.I found simply taking the club back as you have said requires no wrist cock, since actually they are already cocked at address.

  • Lately I've become a complete basket case on the tee. Total desperation. There were some other things I needed to work on such as alignment and getting the clubface of my driver square, but then I tried this. Unbelievalbe! Never heard of this idea in 53 years of playing golf [from age nine]. I was hitting nice high draws, right down the middle. I think this has changed my life. You must take the club back straight and keep the face "looking" at the ball. It works like you said.

  • This is truly the biggest secret in golf. This man knows what he's talking about. Excellent advice!

  • I like this idea, but for me it would seem to lead to hooks. I try to swing like Ben Hogan. On the backswing naturally roll my left arm, while keeping it straight, to the right. I also try to swing the club with the perfect amount of in and up. This action opens my clubface though, just like Hogan did. This action also cups my left hand at the top. On my downswing I try to release the cup, and roll my left arm gradually on the downswing to the left. Is this action good or bad? Thank you

  • @DUPLESSISGOLF Yes. You want to setup driver at least inline with the front toe or even a little outside your front foot. This will allow the impact to be ASCENDING as you lead with your hips unwinding. The bottom of the arc of the golf swing is where your front shoulder hangs, so by moving it forward a couple of inches, forces you to KEEP TURNING to go after it and the result is an effortless, assending impact through the ball. Oh yea, and it rolls a lot because of the angle of attack...Ross

  • Do you try to cup your right wrist in you backswing, and maintain a flat left wrist and cupped right wrist into impact to achieve having the clubface square? Thank you!

  • @nickpryor07 No, I do not actively control hinging my hands any more. I let the inertia created by the shoulder turn do it, but it took practice. It also took a little time to get rid of many years of hinging the wrong way. Once you set your grip pressure at setup, it should not change during the swing. (I will continue in the next comment box)

  • @nickpryor07 Once you learn to control your grip pressure, the Large Muscles (Hips & Shoulders) pick up the slack and control the swing in a natural athletic motion. If you do not actively manipulate your hands on the back swing, there is no need to uese them on the downswing (no action-no reaction). If you have setup with the shaft in line with the front arm, then the club will return square. It is real easy to have a square face at impact if you don't change anything during the swing.

  • I have been working with this swing with very good results. I can hit the ball very solid and timing is really not an issue anymore. I am having a hard time using it with the drivers though. Any tips for that?

  • I totally agree with this. I have been trying to time pronation and supination. To do it exactly the same way to get the clubface square is nearly impossible. This is perfect!

    Thanks for sharing this!

  • @juicyfruitzy Yes, I tried for years after reading Hogan. The reason Hogan came up with that, was to fix his "Less than flat" left wrist at setup and at the top so he would supinate just before impact to fix it. I say, lets not break it to begin with. If you let your wrists hinge more like Paul Azinger at the top, then turn to the finish, the ball goes very straight and is hit very solid. If you stop turning, your arms and club will pass your body turn and the ball goes left.
