  • what does Ex-tempo mean?

  • simply not human. unforgetable

  • Forget lame electronic beats, this rules

  • Like his concentration

  • he is my favourite...

  • wooow what a sound !!!

  • just the best. Anindo is an absalute tabla heavyweight. Fantastic clarity tempo and tone.

  • Great speed!!!

  • man is it me or is there a lag in sound?...nice vid though

  • SUPER !!!!!

  • I like the heavy use of the dagga-very interesting considering that usually tabla is more heavily played!

  • very good i especially like how his chupa on the laan is very talented

  • pandit can not be an ustad and an ustad can not be a pandit. ustad is for muslim, pandit for hindu.

  • You are partially right, but partially wrong. Pandit and Ustad refer to similar skills---a pandit is similar to an ustad in skill levels.

  • He's called Pandit since he learned from a hindu teacher. If he learned from a Muslim teacher, he'd be called Ustad.

  • Not true. The title depends on the person's (disciple's) religion and not his master's. Pandit Ravi Shankar, a Hindu, had a Muslim teacher (Ustad Alauddin Khan) but was always referred to as Pandit, never as Ustad, himself.

  • Pandit is the same as ustaad. You get the title based on who you learned from. If he had learned from a muslim teacher, he'd be an ustaad, but he learned from a hindu teacher and thats why he is Pandit

  • this guy should be an ustad..ustad anindo chatterjee

  • If he was a Muslim most probably he would have been Ustad, but he is Pandit (Highest cast, Hindu)

  • Man actually the Ustad title belongs to the great tabla players who are muslim and Pandit for the Hindu's. These two titles are used in every aspects of Indian music.

  • Its actually 'pandit' anindo chatterjee.

  • ustad and pandit are mean same thing, the word differs because of hindu and muslim.

  • You listen to tabla with eyes closed, synch in and it'll slow your heart down, keep going, synch brainwaves, and it's a sweet cosmic ride.

  • this dude is fucking awsume

  • Truly beautiful to behold.

  • alaweys love him

  • Jaw-dropping stuff! AWESOME!

  • excellent

  • never heard so much focus on the baya, he mostly uses the tabla as embelishment on his baya playing. Opposite of what Im used to, wierd and different, interesting

  • I don't understand how you came to this conclusion, as it is the Dayan playing that stands out in this video.

  • I agree.

The dagga is just keeping tempo.

The soul is in the Dayan.

  • well you see generally people dont think about the right-left thing with bayan dayan relationships, typically the bayan is considered the base and the dayan is considered the taal

  • I agree to that, too much emphasis on the baya, very strange

  • I love this guy!!! He's totally sucked into it!!! Bravo!

  • awesome. mind blowing. is this from a dvd?

  • fantastic. He is a true maestro. I think the bayan style is typical farukkabad style. the famous kayada "dhig dhina thita gina... " which is played in benaras as well is played like this in farukkabad garana. mind blowing.

  • fantastic!!! he is a fabulous maestro. about the bayan. it's the farukkhabad style. pt. kanai dutta used to play this mesmerisingly. famous kayada "dhig dhina thita gina dhagena dhig dhinana" which is played in banaras gharana as well is played like this in farukkhabad style.

  • his beats kinda suck

  • OH MY GOD

  • Anindo ji! you are the master! I hope your back problem doesn't get worse..:( HE is a "pure" player..no glitzy , glam stuff..like other we know out there!

  • He is such a respelndent and a cool customer, you all gotto attaned his all nite concerts where he rocks..

If anybody had been to the likes of Doverlane annual musical conference in Calcutta, (s)he could understand what I am saying.

  • no no not the modulation i mean how to make the sound so fast i aint noweher near right and yes i know i spelled nowhere right

  • WOW, kya baht hei, so cool :)

  • Wow! I'm going to watch this video very closely! This guy makes it look so easy, but I know it's something that takes time to perfect!

    Smashing performance!

  • This guy is calmest tabla player in the world!! I love Anindo's playing!

  • how do you make that sound that hes making with the big side i mean i try it but it dosent sound right help someone pls

  • Is it just me - or is the sound not synced up to the video here? Very frustrating.

  • ze master it's so fun to see him playing, seriously he's smiling even playing i am wrong? it's terrible i love that!!!

  • Farukahbad Gahrana ROCKS

  • every tabla player's hero!

  • Greetings,

I'm curious about his bayan striking: what does he make those weird bass modulations ? It's not the classical modulation by sliding the wrist, it's complete different technique: from 2:03 he makes it a lot. Someone can kindly tell how to do it ? Email: jahlinga"AT"yahoo"DOT"fr

  • Classical technique is precisely how he does it. The wrist-sliding is generally used in folk/light playing, but in classical tabla, almost all modulation is done by varying wrist pressure and the location of the strike. It isn't really something that can be explained in words alone, you need to have someone show you in person, and it takes practice, of course.

  • It was nice to see a great master playing the instrument. Thanks for posting the video.

  • Though it ultimately resides with personal taste, there is a lot of hysteria abound by those eager to uplift some minor talent to the realm of guru, maestro or 'master' etc. Pandit Anindo Chatterjee IS a master, and he HAS mastered this instrument, and that is clear for all with an open heart to see. Divine.

  • well said, especially the first sentence.

  • OMG.. I have seen a lot of tabla clip .. this is truly exceptional...

  • kya bat hai

  • Truly, the gods walk amongst us...

I've had the delightful pleasure of seeing this genius perform on two occasions. Great as this clip is, it doesn't really do the man (?) justice.

Imagine two hours of your hair standing on end and your spine tingling... THUNDER rendered by hand upon skin, and done with a crazy grin.

Ah, Anindo... Your presence here makes this Earth a better place.

  • Anindo da,gurudji you are the best tabla player i'v ever seen !!!!

  • god level! his banya play is par excellent

  • the lighting effect with the 2 shadows is cool

    nice tabla playing

  • This is a really fantastic clip. It shows what amazing technique Anindo da has, as well as his prowess and ability to formulate and develop a solo from bol to phrase to variation.

  • he is very good. I realy like his sound and style.

  • The rocket scientist of tabla -- if I had to go to battle with one tabla master, who could cover every area of play, it would be Anindo!

  • Brilliant. It is good to see videos of him finally. He is regarded as one of the best tabla players in his generation, but he never gained the fame that Zakir did because he always downplays his talent instead of showboating it.

  • Keep up the good work. JS

  • EXCELENT.

  • WOW...this is some of the most magnificent tabla solo I've ever heard

  • Wow Awesome^^
