  • Do the coaches ever feel bad?

  • 2:17 Look at those muscles! You go girl! :D

  • LinLin is real tough cookie, even at age of 7 refused to go home want to stay in gem school cz coach said she is so tiny ` she proved everyone r wrong ! she was born pioneer!

Today, she is a superstar in China, 1 billion people luv her, she brought and teach even adult how to work hard to reach goal.

    u'll see her in 2012

  • Hi please reply ASAP how did nai ruoyu injure her hip???

    Thanks so much

  • @DakotaJane1994 Nai Ruoyu developed a condition called necrosis of the femur. If she had continued gymnastics, she wouldn't be able to walk in the future so that's why the coaches stopped her training immediately and started treatment.

  • Actually after the coach got mad at deng linlin, what the coach was saying to Jiyang Yuyuan was , I think you have not whole-heartedly do this move, cause the coach didn't like her posture in the move.

  • @DakotaJane1994 Not really her posture. He was saying that her turn was a tad early not resulting in a handstand which gets deductions in competitions :). But yea, he did say her body was very loose (and your body needs to be tight in gymnastics).

  • Good translating! It helped a lot :) xxx>.<

  • this man is not pushing the children hard but his words are just REALLY not helping.. his not encouraging them and all that.. if i was her i would've already walked out :D

  • @SandraCui You probably wouldn't see any of those girls walk out :). It's disrespect to their elders. We don't do it. Words like these aren't uncommon in many Asian countries (even in schools). Many of our teachers sometimes scolded us that way by just telling us what was wrong.

  • Well, Some fo u say jiang yuyuan isn't tough enough to join the national team without her coach, but back in beijing she was awsome and she really enjoyed it. she made it look like art. it hink thats the most important thing. but jiang yuyuan and deng linlin are my fav's so...^^

  • sometimes coaches want u to do everything perfect traight right away .....

a coach is spose to teach u and tell u wat u r doing wrong but saying it normal not shouting ... that will take longer for the student to learn and do everything right....

and no body and nothings perfect

  • Juang YuYuan bought new house for her parent and a new van for herself, She is a well respected star now,

Dang LinLin is the little crying girl in video, also bought new house for her parent

Today she is top all-around member, and Chinese queen on beam, if she has no injury, she will get big scores on 2012

  • Juang YuYuan now in 2010 is top all-around contender for 2012, the coach said.

If without this coach,. YuYuan will never qualify to join the national team, Because she is not tough as Dang LinLin or Cheang Fei

  • Tough love for elite members are key to win Olympic

Gold medals only match 6 people out of the world

Chinese average are shorter compare to westerner, i believed harder training enable to win, See Liu Shuan broken world record on short track, beat all the black dudes, China also won speed track Olympic gold

    Also because of tough coach

  • she won silver at the Worlds yesterday on AA-shes fine

  • The protest that thus nothing says to as for the people whether the people ignore the Chinese government forth

  • Poor little Den Linlin. I feel so bad for these children. Is Olympic glory really worth all the pain and suffering and abuse?

  • Brutal training, poor thing! But I disagree with people who say that the coach is heartless lah. He seems to be as pressurised as her. Actually, I think he feels very sorry for (there were moments when pity flashed across his face) but as she still hasn't finished her tasks and perfected her moves, he has no choice but to make her train over and over.

  • shes ripped!

  • omg i feel so bad for them. i mean i know that they have to be pushed and that they have to work hard because they are at an olympic level. But I feel so sorry for them. They look like they really need a hug and someone to tell them that they can do it. I can't believe Jiang Yuyan had to stay till 2am just doing that move. Does anyone know where I can watch this whole documentary? Because the links that are in the description box don't work.

  • @gr8testjojofan I think it was 2pm though... From their training schedules and such ><

  • @lovepandas ohk i guess that's not as bad as 2am but i still feel sorry for them

  • she can´t walk but the can do her training....... it´s so hard to be a elite gymnast. I know, because I am....... many people don´t understand the tears, It´s not because the pain, it´s becaus we want to be perfect. you only have ONE chance and you have to take it. if you don´t you have lost. we don´t want to lose. we always want to win!

  • I think vault is the most difficult

  • translation continued:

    mastered it

Random Voice: Quickly explain yeh? its getting late.

Coach: You see this? you cant possibly do a 360 like this, if your in this angle you can only do a 180, i already told you this is the last move you do, dont forget.

    Done :)

as you can see the poor girl had to stay up to 2am doing this ):

  • Guys if you need help with Translation from 3:22 here it is:

Coach: Hurry Up Jiang Yuyuan its 11:35pm isnt it? how many times have you practiced that move? not once huh? ur gonna be up to 4am doing this? your twisting too early again, to early, Jiang Yu Yuan are you alive right now? you have no commitment to this have you?

Jiang YuYuan: I've already put all the effort i have and ive improved

Coach: Come here! Im telling you now, u've learnt this move for 13 days already and u still

  • @xazngiirlx The coach said that it's already 11.35am and she hasn't done any of her tasks yet and what time would she finish her other four repetitions.

  • @xazngiirlx And after that, the coach said that her body was loose (not tight) and thinks maybe she doesn't have confidence doing it but she says she's very tired already.

  • I wish I knew what they were saying!

  • @gymnasticsfan14 uhh the uploader has translated already o.O

  • Yea after I posted this!

  • ah ok xDD

  • I agree of Deng Linlin. I saw Jiang Yuyuan had some difficulties during the last tournament

  • deng linlin is now the chinese national champion!! good for her!!!

  • watch?v=Wxm3d_7zWu4 , this is the part1 of this whole documentary. Gym-related parts start from 03 and I highly recommend watching the whole documentary.

  • whats the name of this documentary? I checked, its not called, "Chinese Gymnastics Documentary". Its really interesting since its a doc on these girls way before they appeared at the 2008 olympics...

anyone knows, let me know. thanks.

  • i found it, its called "Dream Weaver, Beijing 2008"

  • they are beautiful

  • 3天沒完成任務又如何 ,人家已經腳傷了 還這樣說 給你拿到世界冠軍 奧運冠軍 換來殘廢的身體 值得嗎

  • Poor girls ]:

  • agree.. when you are young... its better to be pushed... but when you reach a certain age.. around 14.. its better for the kid to excel by her own because during that age.. kids are more rebellious..

Hopefully, the kids' ambition is being the world's gymnast... then no one needs to push them... but usually thats very rare..

  • Actually i wonder how much impact can the knee take when a gymnast makes a landing... Its not very healthy to the knees main... the toes.. the ankle... the hip... gosh...

  • Their coaches are very caring, just like their parents. Pang Panpan's coach broke his arms several times just because he was there to pretect his gymnasts. Chinese gymnasts don't need some fake sympathy. Chinese are fine, they are not sexually abused by their holy "fathers" and they don't smoke weeds.

  • of course her coach cares for her. they depend on her for winning olympics. if she was not one of the top gymnists in china no coach will care if she is injured. of course there are coaches that do actually care but there aren't enough of them. china just uses them as tools to earn medals

  • The part wiith Deng LinLin is really sad.

  • to be the best of, it needs hard training. and althougt it looks very hard look on results of Olympic Games, the Chinese gymnast defeat other world. and they are the best of.

    GO CHINA!

  • he is so horrible to her, that's not fair she is amazing

  • No, it is soo sad to see these gymnasts being pushed beyond their limits, did you see her foot!? poor girls!

  • chinese gymnast are so lucky i wish i was forced to do gymnastics at that age i would have probably been a better gymnast now :'(

  • How many u.s. kids have freedom to choose their religious beliefs? They were forced by their parents to believe a particular religeon at a very young age! Just ask those abused boys and men. At least Chinese don't smoke weeds.

  • This is how you must create a champion. Hard work and still enjoying it!

    Love China

  • there realy nothing abusiv about this, just tough training.but like your aunt the one who go throughhaving much worse than this for nothing, have had someone steal there childhood for the goverment to to try to get a gold medal for them selfs

  • poor thing i wanted to hug here

  • when was this documentary made?

  • 2002 or 2003 I believe.

  • why is deng linlin so muscular?

  • i know but she's the only one with the muscles, jiang yuyuan, cheng fei, li shanshan, yang yilin and he kexin dont have them.

im also a competing gymnast and i dont have muscles that big

  • Deng Linlin is like Shawn Johnson--a power gymnast in a tiny body. Some people have a tendency to develop bulkier muscles, and others leaner muscles even from the same exercises and diet.

Also, DLL and Shawn both have short limbs, so their muscles seem bulkier.

  • can someone put it in English pls

  • they train so hard. good for them. I mean like. cause they got gold medals in olynpics even though im from australia

  • And especially the Chinese gymnasts are very thankful to their coaches and the country to discover and help them fulfill their potentials. and if you're not ignorant enough, you should have noticed that they alway express their thankfulness every time they get a chance or win a medal, unlike the arrogant americans.

  • Well, not all Americans are arrogant but I would agree with you... growing up, my American coaches were prejudiced against me by benching me and let other players who weren't as good as me play instead. Even some of my teammates were confused, too!

  • sorry to know that, is it possible to switch to other gyms?

  • What do you mean by to switch to other gyms?

    :)

  • "my American coaches were prejudiced against me by benching me and let other players who weren't as good as me play instead. Even some of my teammates were confused, too! "

    you said this

  • I was in a basketball team. Do you mean that I should've changed teams?

  • And don't forget Shawn is trained under mostly Chinese training regime and Nastia the Russian training regime. These are the most effective training regimes for elite gymnasts.

Don't expect you can eat junk foods watch sitcoms and still be the best athelete with you overweight body.

  • Althought I can't confirm that, it is almost true. Shawn Johnson trained with a Chinese trainer (ex-gymnast) and Liukin with her father...a Russian medalist himself.

It is really tough to be in gymnastics though! That's why I give ALL of them so much credit!

  • a Russian medalist father**

  • my last comment was to USA3333, sorry if i offended others

  • poor jiang she is hurt :S

  • You are a complete idoit, they didn't take the girls. THE GIRLS AGREED to train. And don't you ever put communist together with sports.

Ppl dont judge americans by what they did in Iraq so dont judge Chinese by Tibet

  • i dont think 2 yr olds AGREE to do anything. and they certainly were taken! I put communists with sports becuz china was hosting the Olympics so they were eager to prove to the world that they were best. THey probably treat these girls horribly to make them tough which is not alright.

Your last sentence is dumb. Ppl DO judge USA by what thy did in iraq. and where did Tibet come into this?? i hope that was a typo

  • They were not taken... They just tried gymnastics and learned it to be fun so THEY WANT TO do it. THEY do not treat them terribly and you have completely no proof.

PPL DONT judge AMERICAN (PPL) by Iraq tht was a government mistake not a nationalities mistake. Same with the Chinese government, they made the mistake but doesnt mean all the ppl there are horrible.

  • @USA3333

Shawn Johnson started training at the age of 3, so does Nastia Liukin. It's the best age to start the gymnastic training for girls to become elite gymnasts. and it's the same in every country. there's othing special for the Chinese.

So don't show your ignorance here.

  • Well said. Perfect practice makes perfect routines and the Chinese happens to master in it but not the last. I don't understand why people say, 'well the Chinese is that good in gymnastics because of the harsh training they all go through at such a young age' when it's no different with other gymnasts.

  • Often because the parents can't afford to feed them, especially if the parents have more than one child, they get not benefits for the second child. I heard that Cheng Fei has siblings, if she had a brother, then as a girl she would be completely overlooked, gymnastics training is the best thing for her, giving her a home, an education and a chance for success.

  • you are spreading rumors here. Nai Ruoyu's parents are both doctors are provincial capital- Shijiazhuang. Cheng Fei is the only child in her family. China has 9 year free education. you are such a bitch.

  • I am sure I heard a commentator say she had siblings. If she does not I apologise but my argument is the government will still only acknowledge one child per family, the second one is against the law, I read about a family in rural China, with two boys.

Giving a child a chance of gymnastics, is away of dealing with having more than one child. Rural China has huge poverty and many Chinese people work in sweatshops too, Sport gets them out of poverty and decent living.

I am not a bitch thanks.

  • Infact if you got to meet MOST chinese ppl they are actually very nice.BTW, dont u know Chinese ppl work hard?On normally basices some ppl go to work at 5-6am. And if the girls were treated terribly they could burst out on the interviews and tell everyone.

  • they definitely treat them horribly. i never said the chinese ppl are horrible, i just said these coaches were.

  • The coaches are very protective on them.

  • theyre too protective. they dont treat them like humans

  • I said they protect them from injuring as much as possible and all the work going out is completely the girls own desire.

  • yea right. they push them really hard. i bet those girls have no life outside gymnastics. and how the hell do you know any of this?? you look to me like a runescape fag

  • THere are interviews? the girls nvr protested? why r u?

Did u just judge me by runescape? i cant do some intertainment for 2hrs?

  • the girls would get in trouble if they did.

sry for judging you for runescape but that is the gayest most ridiculous game in the whole fukin world.

  • Look first of all you have no proof

Second, its a game get over it?

yea right they'll get in trouble...

if she said it on interview it isnt possible for the coachs to be bad to them becuz the whole world wud be helping them

  • fuckin hell, y r u complaining! they r in lyk hostipal type thing injured and there not crying! JEEZ GROW UP FAG!

  • who the fuck are you???

  • It's SPORTS!!! What do you expect? Have YOU played sports before?! It's what coaches do! They don't yell at these girls just because they can...they criticize their athletes to make them better!

I know I got yelled at when I played sports at their age and I cried, too, but I don't hate them for it!

  • Female swimmers are just as young when the train and compete, they get pushed, yelled at, their diet watched just the same to become the best yet few critise it as a sport, in the same way.

  • Well at least female swimmers don't have to retire in their early twenties; if they miss out on a medal at one olympics, they can go to the next one and still stand a good chance. Gymnasts get one shot in one moment at an unbelievably young age.

  • It comes down to health and injuries, Cheng Fei was at her second Olympics and can retire now with money in the bank and go to University with lots of opportunities, she is a star, has done modelling shoots. The other thing is that there are so many great gymnasts in China and America that they can have a new team every four years and do well.

Gymnasts are now carrying on into their mid-twenties. Tweedle, Ezhova, Chuso, Santos competed in Beijing.

  • USA3333, you called the coaches communists? That's very ignorant for you to say! It's fine to dislike communists but it's wrong when you freely call someone especially of Chinese heritage a communist. Show some respect!

  • My aunt is from China and was an unsuccessful "prospect". She's traumatized by her experience.

In most cases, it's utterly false that the girls agreed. Their parents agreed to let them into the system, almost always with their best interests in mind. Often it really does bring them better lives.

There's another side, though, of the thousands who don't succeed and are returned to parents they barely know, sometimes with chronic injuries and little education (sports schools differ a lot).

  • Following on the last comment--those who believe that some gymnasts in other countries aren't in the same circumstances are as naive as those who believe most girls in China freely agree.

What do you think Bela did in Romania, or the Soviet coaches?

How many American gymnasts are all but forced into staying with the sport because of their parents who mentally abuse them and threaten physical abuse if they quit?

Elite gymnastics and other sports can be ugly.

  • Sorry that should have read "...who believe that *all* gymnasts in other countries...."

Some Chinese sports schools educate and take good care of their athletes. Others provide almost no education, with close-to-illiterate athletes. The national weightlifting center is notoriously bad and has drugged its athletes.

It's a complex issue b/c the outcomes are SO different from athlete to athlete. Over 80% of retired athletes live in poverty. But they might have been there anyway, right?

  • yea but your passage about US gymnasts is inaccurate.

shawn johnson had "too much energy" as a kid so her parents let her try dancing, then gymnastics. she loved gymnastics so much, thats why she still does it. noy cuz she is forced to

  • Nothing I said implies Shawn was forced. I said that there are kids who are forced in the US too; it doesn't mean Shawn was. It happens world-wide, but it happens in China more than in the US because the athletes' families may have fewer practical choices (too poor to provide well for the kids). It's not the girls' agreeing, but the parents agreeing for them, considering their best interests. The outcomes are sometimes better, sometimes not. It's a very complex issue.

  • yes your right, the one who dont make it are not heros

  • thats the promblem, they only care about the 6 who make out of the thousands who go through abuse for nothing,

  • No pain no gain. Chinese are very diff from the westerners. We applaud and admire such hardwork and desire to win.

  • wow that is super mean.. i mean what the heck their coach is like really mean to them.. he puts to much pressure...i though they were kidding when they said chinesse gymnast trained like crazy but now i see it wow ....
